No such thing as "the best way to bomb", a good pilot creates the fastest and the safest opportunity regardless of angle of attack and executes it with maximum efficiency.

As such, a pilot isnt limited to one or two bomb drops, nor is he limited to one certain drop style.

In general, theres 2 dropping styles. In and out of the dive. The second one takes place with extensive MG hits. You can easily drop using the HUD on the first occasion. On the second occsion, its a little too complicated and needs a gut feeling and extensive excercise (using rear view to adjust the drops).

If youre using the tip of the line to drop the bombs, you need a low angle of attack (basically, youre NOT divebombing), and if youre using a fighter an drop 2 bombs, you need to tip your nose down when the second bomb drops.

All in all, yes, HUD is reliable, in all cases, but theres so much information that you cant really calculate the shots and need to rely on subconscious calculations which you can only achieve with experience.

ROFLMAO! Drop me a tear, kiddie. I can guarantee you that a newbie who will use the same method at linear approach, will fail to aqcuire that precision. If you tell a new person to drop using the vertical line, he will drop it in the approach, and will overdrop. And all of the newbies drop while they descend (in the dive), not while they are going from descension into ascension. In order tobe skilled at this technique, one has to practice using MG shots befoe bombing, to learn the timing.

So no, wipe those tears, newbie- divebombing using central reticle is the safest and easiest way to go as its universal in almost all cases.

        EDIT:

This is how someone with a less knowledge and experience, than DJBrowny, would bomb. Note the different release in drops, which are made "in dive". This also need a different angle of approach.

The easiest way for someone to learn divebombing is by teaching them to bomb using central HUD reticle, placing the target under the central cross. This way, they drop their loads with maximum precision and efficiency, can rely on HUD and experience through being effective. And even then, limiting oneself to divebombing only, is utter stupidity. A good pilot can bomb from any AOA.

Ive put a lot of mind into bombing with the HUD myself, so I know how effective it can be, but also how limiting. Watch PW Oman video for reference. Once youve aqcuired that technique, youll never need another technique again.

ffs get over yourselves already. Back to bombing, its all about timing. I have enough experience bombing that I can just time it with impeccable results. You just need to get a feel for it. I barely focus on the HUD any more, I see that as more of a guide for the new people.

I wouldn't brag about relying on your HUD all the time. I, personally, hardly use the HUD when I bomb.

Relying on HUD is exactly like women driving.

"turn left, align, align, align, align, almost there, DROP!"

My preference is always 2 bombs (although some leet pilots would say better 1 bomb but there are pluses and minuses of each approach) and always dive bombing. And just before that I soften my target with MG as much as possible. As for HUD, I rarely use it, I just feel when to release bombs, you will know it by experience :)

Bomber bombing is rather easy, normally you rarely miss the target but I dont like being in bombers (except SU30 maybe) cause they are easy target for enemy fighter :)

2 bomb drops is the only way to go if you need the armor gone with 100% certainty. For example, if there are 2 tanks cooperating (AKA repairing each other), you need to drop 2 to have a positive kill, otherwise its a wasted drop.

1 bomb drops are the most efficient in pub environment, yes.

Meh, just go up to 700ft and dive vertically or at a slight angle to the verticle at your target and release using the general region of the bottom line of the central reticule. Works 100% against stationary targets and depends on how you time it against moving crap. It has to work in any case, considering it's just a vertical drop with a certain offset from the plane itself.

And you're invulnerable to stingers & any AA because they can't actually aim up

I've never used the HUD to bomb, it just seems unnecessary.

Here is my guide to being a good BF2 Bomber, in a Su-34 or the lousy american bomber.

Chapter 1: Go to EB Games and buy BattleField 1942
Chapter 2: INstall the latest patch and play "The battle of britain"
Chapter 3: Get in a bomber, and learn to horizontal bomb

I am a really, REALLY good bomber because of 1942, the SU-34 and the watchyamaaacallit have extremely strong bombs, no need to dive and get all 5 on the same spot, 2 around the tank or apc will crush it.

                            End.
