I judge all hackers the same way. They're guilty of the crime of ruining the fun of other players, whatever their reason. Don't people think that other people deserve a fair chance in a 'game'? It's not a victim-less crime. Someone's fun is at stake, and you could be forcing someone to quit that game forever by playing with a severely unearned, unfair advantage.

So to former-hackers I hold a cautious outlook. True repentance has to be proven; and since it's impossible to prove whether or not someone still hacks or not without actually catching them in the act of cheating, (Theres no way to prove that they've stopped.) - I will constantly see any of their legitimately gained accomplishments as hallow-victories. After all, they've hacked before? How do we know if those accomplishments were truly earned fairly? I know I don't know... so I treat them with a mild neglect, and occasionally throw out a zinger or two if they're boasting too much.

And thats only what I do, if they're nice guys.

Just wait till you see what I do to the jerks.

I dont think hackers take anyones fun away (with their downloadable skill) any more than what a skilled player can do on a server. I have no doubt that for example you, Dairuka-san, would rape me on the ground with minimum contest. That wouldnt be any different for me (AKA- no fun at all) than being raped by a hacker. If we expanded on it, I would feel good if I was raped by a hacker because my ego would be bruised less :P

            Re: Why do people hack?

The only hackers i find spoil the game are the ones that stand in the uncap headshotting everyone with a single shot, the ones you can't get anywhere near.

The hackers that run around and die every now and again can be tolerated because if you're in a decent squad, he's just giving you extra points from all the reviving you have to do :p Hackers don't do so well in CQC so if you can get close enough it's not a problem.

I don't know about any of you, but I can't find any justified way for it to be okay for somebody to be hacking.

                Re: Why do people hack?

Its not a justification, Im just pointing out that from a sub par player standpoint, it doesnt matter if you get killed by a hacker or a player with superior skill because youre raped either way, hence the whole "hackerws ruin my fun" argument is severely flawed.

If hackers didn't ruin the fun of the other players, why would we care if they did it in the game?

Maybe we should change the name of this thread to, "Why do we give a damn if people hack?"

The answer to that question for me is, "It ruins the fun of the game for me."

I get where Chris is coming from, if some really high skilled player is caining your whole team without hacks, what difference does it make if a hacker comes along and does the same. Each person is ruining the game for you.

However i suppose there's some comfort in knowing that the skilled player is killing you over and over purely because he's better than you, not just proned 200m away headshotting you lol

Hacking is unfair, no if's or but's about it!

Playing against a more "skilled" player and getting "owned" can be very frustating, but that's part of the game, and it's fair and square, and it can actuallly help you evolve your game.

When you play against hackers, espcially with aimbots, you hardly stand a change of even looking at them before you're already dead.

                        Re: Why do people hack?

Thats not the worst part about hacking to me.

My biggest problem with people hacking in a game, is that it automatically causes me to become suspicious of players who excel far above my level of game play. (This is for all online games, and not just BF2.)

I can only imagine how many times I've caused people to think the same way.

This really impedes on my fun personally, because it gives my sub-conscious a really lame excuse as to why I'm not performing as well as this individual, when in reality I was probably having an off day, and that person was just playing better than me.

I wish there were always proficient admins around to take PB screen-shots on request/suggestion. Then every-time I'm accused, I'd immediately ask the admins to take a PB SS. Every-time I'm close to accusing somebody, I'd ask the admins to take a PB SS. If theres no proof; great, I can get over myself and go back to having fun.

Proof really would take the stress out of not knowing. Suspicions are frustrating. Sadly, with so many proven cheaters out there, it's impossible not to be suspicious every now and then.

PB is crap, pretty much every hack comes with a PB SS cleaner. Basically as a PB SS is requested the screen will flicker for a split second ( on the hackers screen) The hack program turns all the hacks off for a split second for the SS, then re-applys them.

The only way to truly know if someone is hacking, with decent hacks, is to watch them for a long period of time.

Yeah it's frustrating, there's always one guy that seems to headshot you constantly and many times i find myself swearing at the screen. Learn't to just keep my mouth shut in game or create a squad with the clan admin of the server and say something over VOIP to avoid confrontation, no-one likes someone crying hacker over the chat.

                            Re: Why do people hack?

In this case, it's not just BF2 or First Person Shooters that I'm talking about.

I've always hated playing Warcraft I online, when somebody was using a map-hack that removed the fog of war. After a while, I got fed up and just started playing with only close friends.

Then there was Diablo 2, and we all know what a cluster**** that turned into...

                            Ultima Online...

                            Everquest...

                            Asheron's Call...

                            Dark Age of Camelot...

                            Shadowbane...

Christ. I haven't played a single online game that wasn't plagued by cheaters.

Who says Cheaters don't ruin the fun of games? Thats all they do. :dead:

First thing is to accept that you cant really do anything about hackers. Your best bet is to play in a well established server with people you know / get to know. Since day 1 in BF2 Ive stuck to that guideline.

In a well established server, with plenty of good, well established admins, you at least get a "police force" that gives a sh!t about the game and its flow.

In the end, if all the conditions for a guarded gameplay have been met, in all seriousness- if youre having fun from being the best or being one of the best, you will not have fun by being beaten by skill or hacks, just like the rest of us, so theres no need to put such a heavy emphasis on hacking ruining your fun.

And BF2 sucks *** at adminning and player-tracking.

Sometimes those admins aren't on. It's even worse in games where there are no administrators like RTS's or Online RPG's.

I have fun competing fairly, yes.

Just like in high school Basketball, I was a good player; and there were a lot of far better players who were naturally taller than I am.

Of course, if I found out that even one of them was using steroids over a high school 'game'. You're damn right I'm going to make a big stink of it.
