    Re: Advanced Guide to Sniping

Snipers should move after some kills. If you like you can stay where you are but chance are that someone you just killed sneaks up to you.
And as you, Marksman_M95 don't put claymores to protect yourself, you will be easily knifed or even paddled, teabag included

Anyway, I usually stay in a spot where I can shoot a lot of campers od enemy snipers. When I get shot, (either headshot or just damage) I change position. Me dying drops a ticket on my team, so that's no good.
As commander I have dropped some nice artillery on camping snipers.

Top of buildings: I agree with the Warlord map (and any other SF map). You can access nearly any roof, that makes the number of alternatives very high.
It is useful to be on a roof on SF maps.
In vanilla, everyone knows the spots already, so it depends on your luck if you stay undetected or not.

Don't shoot black soldiers? OMG, that was the worst tip ever. Shoot them, but as for all targets, go for the headshot. It's just body armour.

No matter if you get points for it or not: SPOT THE ENEMIES! There's no reason not to spot them.

Claymores: use them to protect yourself. There are always some noob teammates that will get killed by them, but they won't make the same mistake again.

If a friendly decides to stand right next to your position, ask him to move. If he keeps doing it, or wants to cause trouble, just knife him.
Well, if that's the way you play the game, TKing, then :shakehead: sad

moving and sniping depends on the situation for me. i was on warlord and i was killing so many enemys as they ran out in the street a stayed in that spot and 20 kills later someone found me so it was worth it. sometimes i might set up in areas that im expecting enemy but its not close to their farthest map, for example im a china sniper at wake so i grab a m95 at the start of the round and camp the beach because usmc tries to cap that alot especially in helos (m95). Mostly i move though unless im so far behind enemy lines that if i move i will be see then i lie low until the fighting gets to me.

I never said don't shoot black soldiers. I said it's easier to shoot the white ones because they don't wear body armor.

And I compared my rifle kdr to his rifle kdr. Which doesn't factor in vehicles. So even if he dies in a vehicle, it doesn't affect his rifle stats. And so everyone knows, here's your sniper stats (the rifle, doesn't factor in vehicles)
            KILLS ...DEATHS
            631 ... 1,115
            lol

Guys read more carefully before criticizing.
            killls deaths
My rifle stats are 2,362 1,918

My kills for sniper alone are 3,334

I dont know were you are looking

And reread your own guide you said that muzzle flash is invisable you never said you could see it at any range I was pointing out that you can see it at most ranges

ok guide, but I disagree with you on a few sections. One is the weapons section and what rifle is best for certain maps. for close range I find the SVD to be very powerful and you can shoot off the 3 or 4 rounds very fast while the m95/24 and L96 can slow you down with the bolt action. I actually got my expert sniper on karkand with the SVD. I like the m95, but it is a loud mofo. Same goes for the m24, but I really only use it on larger maps so I'm not as worried obout the rifle's report. the m24 is my rifle of choice though when I am US because I like it the most, doesn't let me down often. When I am MEC or Chinese I tend to use the L96. Lastly, I find that the m24/95 and L96 all do about the same damage and if you dont shoot the person in the head its going to take two shots to kill them, unless they were previously hurt. Granted I have not tested the damage done, but for me I would still use the 24 over the 95.

On your part about cover I do agree that laying in the grass is a no no, but I find the bushes to be quite helpful. I have had a lot of people run by me and didnt notice and for distance it still gives other snipers a challenge. Every now and then I venture onto a rooftop, but I really do try to avoid it because you are so open. If I do i always check other rooftops that have a clear sight to my roof, etc. Also, I spot everything I can. Not only does it help me, but it helps my team. Just the other day on Kubra I spotted a sniper at probably 300m away, shot and hit him. He crawled away out of my sight. I was still able to spot him though because he was so far away and a teammate who just capped the closest base went to finish him off.

Anyway, thanks for the guide as it was fun to read.

The part about the stats was directed to wah, seeing as I addressed him at the beginning of the post.

I think it all comes down to preference, I see lots of people with the SVD in Karkand, but I prefer the M95 because it's the most damaging, and if someone was in a fight and took damage, most hits are one-shot-kills. But I switch rifles often, so I might try the SVD next round.

Good to see input from a real sniper instead of most of the other critics.

He got more kills than you and therefore a better sniper. He also has a better guide while you got alot of bad tips like the "never move" tip.

Heh, who cares about my stats.

What matters is SKILL- not stats. You can look at someone's stats all day. But until you play them or read something by them offering advice on how they play, you do not have any idea what their actual skill level is.

Your stats may be "better" (even that is questionable- your lack of experience and apparent obsession with them is lame and discouraging), but my experience, guide, and in game skill level trumps yours completely.

I am judging that by your pitiful amount of kills and that excuse for a failed homework assignment you call a guide.

My guide demonstrates how I snipe and how I succeed at sniping, and how others can do the same through detailed instruction and advice. Your guide seems to leave it in question how you manage that sniper rifle K/D. So, when you get some people who actually agree with what you say and some proof of your "uber stats lead to uber skills" please show me.

                      Cheers

EDIT/ And I find it funny that you rated my guide 1 star and your own 5 stars :p That's extremely lame and rather funny.

Stats are a reflection of skill. You've played the game for over a year. I've played for a month and already have nearly half of your kills, with a much better KDR.

And your guide is just generic advice. You act like because you told people to hide well and what weapons to use it means you're better. You're not making any sense. I could have gotten the same advice off of dozens of BF2 sniper videos or from the manual.

Why do you insist on debating about something you don't have a clue about? I'm getting tired of correcting you. More kills means he's spent more time. A better KDR means more skill. I've got half his kills and I've only played for a month or so. Why don't you go away instead of trying to nudge your way into our business?

So if you have half his kills in one month that would mean you play more then him no skill needed

Nice guide. I don't think I would call it advanced though. There's one thing you are definitely wrong, the muzzle flash is visible at close to medium-ranges, especially when you happen to look into the direction of where there's a sniper that just shot at you and missed, or that just hit your body. I've seen it many times.

Other things (IMO) a sniper should get good at are: moving with stealth, hitting moving targets, snap shooting, firing into the fog by looking at where bullets are coming from, using the terrain to cover his back and sides, be a spawn point behind enemy lines, spoting targets for everyone else, and avoiding artillery.

Playing I/O servers as a sniper is definitely not the same as playing a regular server.

i never hide in the obvious spots unless thers very good cover where u can crawl up & shoot & crawl back.

i never play on server where claymores & mines are FF, cause like u said noobs allways attracted to them. so to me if your on server like that ur clays are useless or atleast work against you.
