Taking down aircraft while playing as infantry

Since it takes more than 2 rockets to destroy any aircraft with the AA, and by then they will probably have pummeled you with their rockets, what do you do to kill aircraft?

On dragon valley I camp at the island farmhouse, use one AA gun, then quickly run to the other. Kills everytime. It's a great spot because it's in the center and covers the mountain that American choppers love to cross from the carrier

I just try to avoid the jets. But for helicopters, I shoot them with my PKM/M95. I've killed a couple, and gotten a few smoking.

Unfortunatly, there isn't too much more then has been said. You could try hitting choppers with the AT weapon but that is VERY situational and most of the time you won't get a chance or being able to effectively figure out the tragectory and lead.

For choppers, as most know, are easily taken down by two .50cals. With just one(.50cal) the difficulty goes up a little but is still very effective in destroying helos or area denial.

IMO, a .50 cal on the hummer or the like does a better job because its not static like the essex gun. Therefore pilots don't immediatly know where you are, can always change position, etc.

As a pilot, vehicle AA's are the worst. Static AA is easy as you know where they are all the time if you know the map, hence know where to fly to evade them.

Not to mention that nasty MG they have on them!

You can easily get a chopper smoking with that thing.

I like nothing more than watching my team going crazy with the vehicle MG's to take down a chopper and then stealing the glory with 1 shot from an M95 as soon as it lights on fire. :laugh:

Also lots of fun to take down a chopper with tank shells.

Forget it, your best chances are in AA vehicle if you reposition yourself, have a supply box (or support guy) and can avoid enemy tanks/apcs etc

AA vehicles are the best - I prefer the linebacker b/c it's also much better at anti-infantry than the other ones.

I played on a squad once and we decided that we would spend our time setting AA traps - a guy in a static, an AA vehicle, and a couple guys on .50s can bring down most anything fairly quickly. We drove the pilots crazy. Also, if you can catch choppers at far distances with the .50s they don't know where they're being hit from. I've had guys just sit there as I banged away at them until they died. And a lot of times inexperienced pilots will panic and fly into the ground - if they do that, keep firing and a lot of times you'll get the kill.

And once again this gives me the opportunity to rant about how piss poor the AA is in this game. There is not reason that a solid lock with the pilot not evading in any way or dropping flares shouldn't equal a hit. You know it's bad when most pilots don't even try to evade b/c they know the odds are stacked heavily in their favor that the missiles won't even get anywhere near them.
