I have a sniper rifle accuracy of 48.74%, and I'm ranked 14,631 for it. My overall accuracy is 31.59%, which ranks 640th between all players. So, it's absolutely a possibility. I'm sure a lot of the higher players don't play that much, so the stats are inflated, but I'm quite sure there are plenty of legit players that are a lot higher than even me.

One thing that should be pointed out. As a sniper, you should have at least a 50% accuracy. Now that is my personal opinion but still, that means one out of every two shots should make contact. So even if you just nick the person, they are going to get laid out a minute later by some random assault rifle.

If you are going to quote me...at least make sure you get the part where I said "it is my personal opinion"

And I have to wonder when you say "best sniper in the world" does he use the SVD a lot, because will pull your accuracy down. But with a weapon like the L96A1...you should be pretty high in my book +50%

I snipe like I'm an infantry man, running as I snipe most of the time :p plus I need to start playing more maps besides SAK lol.

Not trying to be a bastard or anything, but you really shouldn't try sniping until you are very much acquanted with BF2. Since DICE "blessed" us with horrible hitboxes and questionable accuracy, you should really learn the ins and outs of leading people while you shoot, where the hitboxes are, and also good hiding spots. It helps to be familiar with the map, to know all of your exits in case you are spotted, how you can cover almost all angles of ambush with only 2 Claymores etc. I'm not a super-experienced sniper, but I've played my fair share, I think somewhere over 70 hours, and trust me, it's not easy. I think I still have a ~1:1 KDR with my sniper rifle, though not with the kit itself.

If you're intent on being a full-time sniper, try this strategy. Use the M95 for mid-range sniping, IE, close enough to hit with your pistol. If you miss the headshot (which is usually the case, even for the best), you can finish them with a few pistol rounds. This helps your stats immensely, along with getting you one of the easiest Expert badges in the game. Good luck, happy hunting.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you are aiming for the head, aim lower rather than higher. Hitting him in the chest is better than missing completely.

Not to spark a debate or anything but why does accuracy matter? I have like 39% (fixed the percentage, was reading the wrong stat) but still manage to finish rounds with 15-0, 21-1, ect as sniper

Is a 708:303 K/d rate good? I don't know why it's an odd number like that but I'm just wondering

I do not feel that I am a strong sniper. I am sure I could be better, but lets look at my stats:

That is really horrible. And I am wondering why my KDR is so bad!

The most important thing about a sniper is to take tickets and not loose tickets for your team. Good marksmanship is important in that equation. If you can shoot and hit the target, then quickly reload and hit him again, you have just saved time getting from loosing the guy you were lining up...so you can move on to a new target.

I feel like I could easily loose an argument about accuracy, but in my heart it comes down to hitting your mark everytime. I think you are really wasting time if you shoot and miss. Because then you have to reload and the guys gets away around the corner. A good sniper will nail the guy and if he does not kill him, a teammate should pick up the kill a few seconds later with a quick burst or maybe the target falls 5 feet and dies from your inflicted wounds.

But yes...a very important trait for snipers is having a high KDR. Your right, I think a 5:1 is not out of the question for a good sniper. That is taking into account that the "1" in the 5:1 is another sniper picking him off because he became exposed.

You might say that I 'set the bar high' for a good player. When looking at whom is 'the best sniper' don't get pulled into just looking at his Kit stats, because a lot of pilots play as snipers. Look at Sniper Rifle KDR/accuracy. I would consider a modest sniper to be in the 3:1 KDR and accuracy of ~40%. A good sniper should be 5:1 and >50%

Ah, now after I typed all that, I think I know why my KDR is so poor. I normally use sniper as a spawn point sometimes being a squad leader behind enemy lines. And I'll pickup a kit on the ground after we take a flag or move on.

This has always confused me. In your stats, when it lists deaths for let's say the sniper kit, is that how many times you've been killed while a sniper or by a sniper? And for the weapon section, are the deaths the number of times you've been killed by a sniper rifle, or the number of times you've been killed with a sniper rifle in your hand?

It is how many times you have died with that weapon in your hands. So, say you were running with the assault rifle. You killed 5 people and died once. You would have a KDR with the assault rifle as 5:1. But lets say you had the assault and ran out of ammo after you killed 5 guys and switched to the pistol and died with it in your hands. You would have a KDR of 5:0 with the assault and KDR of 0:1 with the pistol.

If a claymore kills you while you have the assault rifle in your hands, it counts against your assault rifle KDR and not towards the explosives KDR.

But since you mentioned Kit, it is how many times you died while that kit, not what kit Killed you.

The accuary of a sniper depends on what weapon you use. I like the SVD and the dragonov because you can take someone out quicker then with the more accurate sniper rifles if you have a small window of time to kill them. with the SVD its good to have an accuracy of over 35 and above 50% with the M24 and L9681. People that play sniper with the stock weapons usally have their average balance out to somewhere in the 40s.
