Why Do People Take BF2 So Seriously?!

OK, don't get me wrong right off the bat...I love BF2 just like any other G36E shootin mutha f--ka.

BUT!.... let's just put this in a psychological sense right now.

    What makes you BF2er's click?

Why is it?... that blastin down a digital representation of some random person you'll never meet....sometimes the high-light of your day???

Sometimes, I just wish I had a Vodnik while driving around my neighborhood, where I could randomly hit someone into a telephone pole.

    *Just kidding*

I used to take the game fairly seriously when I was competing in CAL/TWL/3FL but when I realized it really wasn't going anywhere, I stopped caring so much and just played to enjoy myself.

True story, believe it or not. :p

It's not just BF2. I play mens slow pitch softball. (it's slow pitch softball for christ sake) And people take it wayyyyyyyy to seriously. It is just the type of person not what they are doing. They will take many things to seriously.

I used to play Sega with my Cousin and he would smash controllers against the wall because he lost. Needless to say I didn't play games much with him.

Yeah seriously ^^ some children break their games. I still have a ps1 game from 1995, and it works.. nothing of mine ever breaks.

The worst ill do is throw my keyboard across the room .... j/k

I think the seriousness in bf2 comes in when things get competitive. This usually happens with me screaming on karkand when im fighting for gold. Other times i really just play for ****s and giggles.

One time i was flying the su-34 on oman, and I didn't really feel like it (surprisingly) so i landed it on the airfield just to see peoples reaction :yay:.
Took the guy 4 minutes to turn it around and take off again .

Re: Why Do People Take BF2 So Seriously?!

                        This is an interesting question.

Why do I wake up every morning, groan, and ask myself 'Why did I stay up so late?' and then, 18 hours later, think 'One more round.....just one more.'

It is fun, which is why it is done. What makes it fun can vary from person to person, obviously. Why is it fun to me? How can I play Wake Island 1,361 times and look forward to playing it again tonight?

The answer, beyond 'it is fun', is elusive. I think it is the unending variety of challenges to overcome. Sure, each round has elements of sameness, but at the same time no round is exactly the same. Having to adjust my game in response to the differences...to meet the challenge of winning the round, keeping a positive KDR, grabbing the gold, or simply outwitting the guy immediately in front of you. If you overcome the challenge, you get that 'Hell yeah.' rush. If you fail, you try again harder or differently.

                        Its hard to define.

All I know is that I will wake up in the morning and think 'Why the hell did I stay up so late?'

For me, it's something different to do other than work, theater, and the mindless drivel of watching people who can't drive nearly cutting me off....it gets out my aggression (and fuels some as well. lol) It is a great game to play and like people say, it's just a pixilated world of no consequence so I can wreak utter havoc and wake up the next morning in bed, rather than in jail or in a coffin.

Always good for a laugh now and then.

It depends, but BF2 just makes me click, IMO. I was waiting for years for an FPS exactly like this, and well DICE pulled it off, reasonably well. The alternatives are things like Warrock, Flashpoint/Armed Assault, C&C Renegade, and so on, i.e. not good enough.

Also, the ability to cause untold damage is a bonus. Nothing like lobbing a C4-laden jeep at a convoy and watching a few tanks blow one after the other.
