Yeah I easily have 20k kills with this gun alone, maybe more.. Used to be the ONLY gun I used..

Now all I use is the M16/AK-101

From all of my experience best thing to do at range is shoot 1,2,1,2,1,1,2,1.... etc.. every once in a while do a 2 shot burst, but always keep it on auto.

Close range, you need to get the headshot. This gun is only good for headshots, not body shots like the M16/AK.

Fire in 2 shot burst consistently and that wil do it, i and getting stable results from it now, u just gotta use it right, the thing about the l85 is the increased rate of which the bullets deiate in rapid fire, people think that the deviaation has recovered from their last shot qwhen it hasn't as a result u think your gun is 85% accurate when its really 50%

                    Re: The L85: Inconsistent Results

Ok, i appreciate the help. I keep getting angry seeing my name in No3 or No4 when I know I could have done better had I known how to shoot. I do use it for medium to long range mainly, as that is my typical combat distance. (Nevertheless, I am usually the first one to run into a squad of four around a corner...). Ok, so most say fire on auto, bursting in 2's. Only head shots at close range. I gathered that part, but the gun seems to just stop hitting them at close range. I guess the intention is to hit them in the head on the first burst or two: anything more signifies bad aim, and results in death for the L85 owner.

Also, who is this guy with the poor typing who claims to have written a lot of posts on L85 effective use? Do you remember what any of them were called? I'll try to search anyway, and read a few. Final note, a bunch of people keep saying get the G36E. I have used it, and prefer it over the others. However, it won't let me unlock it when the unlock screen comes up, as it only shows the first weapon for each class and won't let me click on the second ones, like G36E or L96. I already have L85, M95, and PKM, so how do i get the second weapon in each class? Do I have to load Battlefield 2: Special Forces or something? Or do I have to get every Level 1 unlock to get a single Level 2 unlock? I'll probably get my next unlock tommorrow, so I appreciate any tips. Thanks again.

                            Re: The L85: Inconsistent Results

Ok, thanks for the tip about playing one round of SPecial Forces: I was able to get the G36E that way, and I loved its accuracy. It was like shooting as much as the M16 in burst mode, but having accuracy similar to its single shot mode. Of course, I did one better than this: when I got promoted, I got 5 unlocks for some reason. I unlocked both assault weapons, G36 specops, final sniper weapon, and the G36E. Who knows how I got that many, but I have been able to try them all out.

Also, I have put into practice using L85 on automatic with burst and single shot. I have gotten mixed results: in the first round I got tons of kills that way, but in the next few it seemed that they would kill be before I got off the finishing shot, after having hit them 4 or 5 times. What I don't get is how far it is sometimes off. One guy I shot at about 50 yards illustrates: I lined the sights up perfectly, having seen him first and being in prone, and I proceeded to do the 1, 2,1,2 single to burst shot technique someone mentioned. This had worked before, but with each shot the actual bullet hit to the left, right, above, etc. of the sight. It is like shooting one spot and seeing an explosion of dirt a foot to the left of where I was aiming. This sort of thing at long range might be expected, but at 50 yards (at most)? Has anyone figured out how to prevent this sort of thing from happening? Again, I am using Automatic mode, as advised, but not necessarily shooting that way: shooting single and burst shots alternating, to try and reduce effects of recoil. Again, you all have been a big help.

                                Re: The L85: Inconsistent Results

the l85 is definitely a finicky weapon... some days you can totally slay with it, and some days it's garbage. (e.g. last night i was gunning people down in full auto with only 6 bullets... incredible luck).

You should walk up to a building & shoot it in full-auto to see how far the bullets spread apart. It's not pretty!

For medium/long range it's definitely the best. The reason people like it for headshots is because it does 34 damage (x3 = 102 = instant kill). You don't get that on the g36e with its 32 damage.

When at long range, just be patient with your single shots. Give 1/3-1/2 second between shots for the recoil to settle down. If you're 50-70m away from your enemy, they're so inaccurate that you will probably kill them before they kill you. (exceptions are snipers & humvees of course)

As a medic, i pick my unlock based on how i expect to be fighting... unscoped, ak101/g36e ... scoped, l85...
