EoD was a BF42 mod long before BF2 came out.....

So it was out when 1942 was big. Either way you look at it.

I doubt EOD was around when BF:V was in the spotlight. EOD, as far as I understand is a mod for BF2 using the new BF2 game engine. I played BF:V for years, if there was an off shoot at the time, I would have played that also.

Damn could you be any more wrong...

It was Desert Combat or as it was better known DC...

You can doubt all you want about EOD but the FACT is the mod was out for BF42 long before BFV came out, there was life before BF2 you know and BF42 has some fantastic mods that had their own followings...

I look forward to your facts about FH2

EOD was (AFAIK) the First announced mod for BF1942 that had content...

i recall one of thier first public media releases...
they had managed to replace the helmets with those asian hat things and where working on tunnels... I doubt the pics are still around tho', as this goes back into the early months of 1942's release.

I even recall frank delise showing the hummer he managed to get ingame (on el alamein if memory serves me correctly) and this was the catalyst that started desert conflict..

in my mind, its always been the modteams that have made the BF engine shine

Ok. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

My buddy says he remembers people talking about EoD before BF:V got heavy with chopper only servers. I believe him over you internet people, saying as no one can find dated material. But being the man that I am, I can admit defeat. I was wrong.

And as far as FH2 goes JohnM, Sars99 pwndj00.

            Thanks Sars99. Haha.

Re: Why have most mods been somewhat...predictable.

I think you would have found a MUCH more diverse mod scene for BF2 if there would have been a better playerbase.

Many of the innovative mods that released saw player numbers for literally a day or two then a complete dropoff. You can imagine how demoralizing it is to put in months and months of work only to have it mostly ignored.

On any given night, you will see less than 5% (far less) of the total number of BF2 players playing mods. I would say its probably closer to 2-3%. If these numbers had been true for BF42, you would have never seen some of the amazing mods that came out for that game. You can STILL find more people playing mods for BF42 than you can for BF2, and its not for a lack of variety or interesting themes.

Just like a free market economy, mods thrive off of an active playerbase. Without that playerbase, you will find far fewer mod choices.

And where in my post do i say otherwise?

Mods have abbreviations that people generally use,you have shown this by knowing exactly what i was referring to.Forgotten hope and it's BF2 incarnation are often referred to either FH or FH2 just as Desert Combat was known as DC,hell i'm pretty sure that the BF42 versions folder was labelled FH...
The person i quoted was posing off his ignorance as fact and despite numerous people saying otherwise he still wants dated proof, obviously he lives in China and google will not show the links he so craves...but whatever from now on i will strive to remember not to use abbreviations in case you feel the need to 'correct' me...it will be hard though as i'm quite used to using the terms lmao, lol and whatnot

and AncientSerpent3 i take it you and i must have different meanings of 'pwndj00' (although i think i would never use such an idiotic phrase as this)

How about Battlefield: Lawsuit. Blizzard hasn't been know to let people borrow any of their gaming universe. See the Starcraft mod for Command and Conquer.

all i did was reply to the one bit i quoted, and i am fully aware that you knew what FH2 was... you asked what facts we could come up with so i just thought of the only one i knew as sort of a joke, mainly to lighten stuff up after the whole EoD debate.

didn't intend it to be deep and meaningful

Re: Why have most mods been somewhat...predictable.

I would love to see a realistic/tactical Sci-Fi mod. The entire gaming industry really misses out on that.

                        1. Realism games - Yes
                        2. Arcade games -Yes
                        3. Futuristic arcade games -Yes
                        4. Futuristic realism games - No..

Unfortunately all the futuristic games seem to be combined with arcade. I wish there would be a Sci-Fi game like HL2, Halo, Star Wars, etc but it has the tactical realism of a game like Project Reality.

                          Can't be done.

We can't accurately predict what warfare and weapons systems will be like in the future, so it can never be truly realistic.

Sure, maybe you could slow down the pace of the game, and implement accurate damage modelling.. but who's to say soldiers in the future won't wear cyborg suits which give them super speed, and the ability to jump 50 feet into the air?

Not perfectly accurately, but you CAN predict. Its obviously in the Sci-Fi/futuristic games that they do not even try to make it realistic.

                            You are super-generalizing.

First of all, Sci-Fi doesn't have to be futuristic. I did say futuristic in my second part, but I was just thinking about Halo. :p

Second of all, you are still generalizing. Take HL2 for example. Running doesn't effect accuracy/deviation. Teammates, enemies, you, etc can take TONS of bullets/explosions/etc. Guns are unrealistic when it comes to accuracy, velocities, recoil, and so on. How damaged you are does not effect your body's performance nor does it to anyone else in the game. Eh, could always go on but I hope you get my picture.

And anyway, if they could jump 50 feet in the air then it WOULD be realistic (for that game). You can put whatever futuristic/Sci-Fi element in the game you want and it would be realistic to the game. However that is not my point. My point is somewhat what you stated earlier. Slow down the pace, implement accurate damage modeling, correct accuracy, correct velocities, and so on. I have yet to play a Sci-Fi game with those features.

Basically I think there should be a futuristic game that maintains realistic elements of today.
