    Re: commander motivation

had a commander in a game yesterday, didnt command at all just spammed enemy unit sighted. team killing was off, but that didnt stop us killing him. when he went off to hide we pushed him out into the open and ran him over until he left the server (which he eventualy did)

It's good for the commander to spot enemies for you in my opinion.

Had a , what sounded like 12yr old kid as a commander one day, singing into the mic and annoying the hell out of everybody. Wouldnt spot, drop or arty anybody or anything. Everyone was threating him and to no avail. Mutiny was not a option on the server. I searched him out, knifed him, 'bagged him. He left the server after that. Then we got a real commander.

          Darksyderydaz i hear ya.
Sometimes when my mic isnt working i still try to type out to the guys info.
I had a kid like that the other day.
I thought it was funny at first but than it just got really annoying.
Me and 3 other guys hunted him down and killed him.
          Now that was fun.

have you had to virtually threaten their e-life to get what you need to stay alive?

what other ways have you had to motivate your useless commander to do his job?
Why didn't you just ask over the mic for a supply crate instead of e-thugging right away?

I hate commanders that are AFK for the whole round so it is impossible to get anything from them.

That's when you use a mutiny or kick vote.

I'm convinced that some of the younger players become commander and then go on to do their homework in front of the computer so they can get free points. The programmers of BF2 made a huge assumption that the points a commander gets are earned in some way. Personally, I like playing commander. It is one of my goals to drop assets before the sound file that plays indicating a request is finished. I guess I've played too much squad leader with too many clueless commanders.

lols. i'm terrible for things like that

when i command i do a pretty good job, if people listen to my orders and advice and do their job then htey tend to get a load of points and so do i

but i still have the odd time where i like the server i'm on so i just idle as commander and go for my dinner or something :)

I agree about the younger players wanting to be commander. Had a commander last night on I/O Karkand not do anything for the majority of the round. He spent his whole time trying to make his way up the hill to the USMC spawn to spawn-rape, but kept dying.

I actually find Mutiny/Kick Vote kind of useless, since there are always people that dont for sh*t.

How exactly does a commander earn points? Each arty kill is worth 1 point right? How else do they get points?

A commander getting kills is pointless, in fact he loses point theoretically for doing it

a commander gets points by when someone on his team scores a point divided by the number of players alive at the time (iirc)

so when you have say a team of 8 and they are all getting lots of kills / revives etc then as a commander you will get alot of points (high score divided by low number of players)

and arty doesn't count for anything other then stopping your guys getting the kill thus you getting points, as commander

They should take arty out of the game and replace it with calling in an airstrike from a b-52 or something.
That way the enemy has a chance to take it out.
Arty is impossible to stop once it's been placed.

if hte B-52 was realistic you'd probably wish for the arty, plus i think C4 on arty will be easier then trying to get up high enough to get the B-52

I was f*cking around with the game files. You can make the Phalanx gun on the carrier shoot a TV missile. The thing is, with a bit of tweaking, you can turn it into a Tomahawk missile - funny as hell to play with. I didn't actually make the Phalanx shoot them, but I did change the standard Hellfire to a tiny little nuke blowing the **** out of half the map

In DCon they have ground-based TV missile launchers. That's the best thing to replace artillery with, IMO.
