The m95's...
1. thick lines
2. extra bullet drop
3.slower bullet speed (you have no idea how much more you have to lead by, its crazy)
you can pwn with any rifle in fact ive started to use the m95 for most situations.
it's NOT an inaccurate wepaon, now the type 88 THATS inaccurate.
Re: Snipers seem to be able to....well...**** things up.
good thread gave me lots of ideas on how to think and what to do as a sniper...still i find big problems with the m95 i guess i suck with it or somethin, i unload a full clip shootin at the helo/jet pilots head and 9/10 i miss, while i can headshot a guy sprintin sideways from me...oh well
Re: Snipers seem to be able to....well...**** things up.
I use the M24 or the SVD, as I usually play on Warlord. I know all the sniper spots and I can tell the instant I get shot at/hurt/killed where the enemy is. I approach from a separate angle and headshot them, I rarely miss with the M24 since it is as accurate as the L96A1.
The SVD is not as accurate but if you go for the head it doesn't matter, you can pop off three shots around the head and they're dead. I don't want to be arrogant but I think I'm a very good sniper, at least as I have nobody to compare to that I couldn't outsnipe/find them then run up behind them and knife them.

I hate to have to do this to you eddyeddyd, but you are wrong on a couple of counts.
There is no extra bulletdrop on the M95 or any of the handheld weapons except the LMG's (Support). I guess the fixed LMG's in maps like Karkand have the same ballistics as the handheld version.
The bulletdrop is related to the bullet velocity which is a 1000 for all handheld weapons except the LMG's (500). Source is BF2 Weapons Chart by [DUCKS]Black_Duck_1 , scroll down at the bottom of the OP for the chart.
From that same Weapons Chart you can also see that the Deviation Basics (Standing, Crouching, Prone) are the same for all Sniper Rifles. The difference is in the Deviation Zoom which is 0.005 for the M24 & L96 , but 0.01 for the SVD/Type88/M95.
It would seem that the Type88 and the M95 are equally good in terms of deviation. But there is a catch. The M95 has a 5x Zoom while the Type88 has a 3.3x Zoom.
This part is speculation on my part, but I think the M95 allows for a more precise shot over the same distance as a Type88 when the Sniper is not moving. Because of the higher Zoom capabilities of the M95.
I do not know how the calculation on the Hit & Deviation works in BF2, but I am going to find out if I can with a Dev of a Mod.
Re: Snipers seem to be able to....well...**** things up.
Nice to see you made an interesting thread eddyeddyd.
I believe the quality of the snipers relies heavily on patience. I believe a true sniper is someone who takes the time to find a good spot, sit still or relocate as nec. and be satisfied with only a dozen kills during an entire round.
Many players are too quick to adopt a "running and gunning" approach, often exposing themselves by being too close to the action. Then you have the claywhores.....

ROFL thanks now that i know that im gonna hit ALOTmore, i used to aim above, keep tabs on how much above their head i aimed and if i miss3d, is doesnt matter because if it didnt hit them they dont know im there, so then i aim a little lower, now that i know there is no extra drop illbe able to land me headshots in half the time.
you get the banana

Then you have the claywhores.....
i love clays, when stealth sniping ill put both of them down and when sum1 eventually finds me (after the ninth kill) they willoften be arrogant and want to knife me,when they get close BAM or when i snipe the pilot and gunner/laser bomber out ill rush the jet and put clays on both side ofthe chopper facing TOWARDS the cockpit this way there is NO WAY they can get in without me getting at least one kill, i THINK, but i dont know, for ure if enginers can remove clays but even if they can the chancs are they have both spawns as sniper or AT to try and get me and arent willing to suicide to move clays, chances are they dont even notice them.
this guy was calling me a hacker so when i saw him land the su30 for repairs i shot him and his buddy out, BUT i was SO PISS3D OFF at him that the next person that got in i PURPOSELY didnt hoot him out, thiss way that noob wouldn't get hios jet back.
Re: Snipers seem to be able to....well...**** things up.
I forgot to post about the Center of the Reticle of the different Scopes/Rifles.
My very good friend Todd_Angelo from BF2s.com -forums posted about this some time ago. I think there is a thread about this floating around on this forum to. So here goes ...
- Center of Aim - by Todd_Angelo
Some additional screenshots to help with aim; the 2x2 square is placed centrally. These are done at 1024 x 768 with no antialiasing so you might want to do your own if you play at higher resolutions and with antialiasing on, just to check things remain the same.
The Type 88 and SVD both naturally aim fractionally up and to the left:
The M24 aims dead-on. I think you can see from this why some people think it's the most accurate:
The M95 is dead-on left to right, aims fractionally up if you use the bottom of the horizontal reticle:
The L96A1, surprisingly, aims dead-on left to right but fractionally up:
For thoroughness I also checked the SVD, M24 and M95 in Special Forces and the scopes are identical to those in BF2 (minor difference at this resolution with the SVD's scope but not related to the aiming point) so no need for any adjustments in aiming between SF and vanilla BF2.
These screenshots are at 200% and even though there's only a pixel or two in it this can make all the difference at longer ranges, where a head might only be two, three or four pixels wide.
Re: Snipers seem to be able to....well...**** things up.
I only recently took up sniping about 2 months ago after I got tired of always being on a team that never hand any good snipers to counter the ones picking me off all the damn time. And I now understand why I hated them so much when I played reg. infantry all the time.
Re: Snipers seem to be able to....well...**** things up.
exactly opposite for me, the moment I learned about snipers in bf2 having camo I HAD to buy the game, the FIRST kit i played was sniper on kubra dam and i camped some flag from a bush the whole round.
only recenlty on daqing when i wanted to be a bomber pilot did i see the other side. there where snipers with l96a1s and m95s camping the place, about 4 of them, they where in a squad and respawning, i could tell they had used the tactic of the SL (if killed)lea ving the squad, and after he respawned at any flag rejoining the squad then suiciding and spawning on the new SL because they couldn't be purged for about twenty minutes(we lost that round) i had the hardest time finding them because they weren't like the inexperienced snipers that thought if they where in trees they where invisible, yes trees help IF the enemy isnt a sniper but if he is he can easily point his scope at some woods and find you easy, they hid in those bushes that arent quite 3d but look 3d at range, they would back up behind the bushes when they laid low (this is where i got this tactic of using the bushes in this way from) and inch forward just in front of the bush to snipe you, if they scored a body shot they would back up so the bush was between you and them so you can't see them and they can't see you.
all the arty in the world didnt help even when the commander spotted them out it was no use because we still couldn't see exactly where they where.
I'm not bragging but they would not have purged the snipers eventually if it wasn't for me, I had a SW33T idea when i finally got in the su30, i became a squad leader, and when the comamnder would call uav or spot them out, i would quickly press caps lock and zoom in on the sniper on the map and mark him with an attack order, then i came around to bomb him and guess what...on my screen EXACLTY where the sniper was i saw the orange sword thingy ,( i think thats what it is) which was the same thing as seeing the box, triangle, square around an enemy vehicle, i bombed the attack order that i could so clearly see and got a kill, i told the guy in the j10 and the chopper to do the same and we killed all the snipers within a few minutes from my takeoff.
later used this same tactic on wake when my squadmate was in the f18 and the chinese where stormiing the field, i marked targets and when he wa son the way i would snipe others, when he dropped his bombs i would amrk another.
