    Bf2 growing old :(

I know theres probably a lot of posts about whats next for the BF franchise but I a little thought earlier. BF2 has been great to me. I have a little under 200k in pts and I've loved every minute of the game, even through all those times i ctd. However, lately I've been really really hurting for some new games, Bf2 is just growing old, despite its awesome graphics and gameplay, its just not as fun as it used to be. So I've actually been really interested to see what EA is cooking up next for the BF franchise. I am one of those who believe the ww2 games are not dead, people are just sick of killing Germans most of the time.

Well BF3 will obviously be DX10 capable so we can expect a lot more out of graphics. I'm hoping that they will take a game like Crysis, with its dense jungles and try to incorporate it into a battlefield game. What I would really really love to see would be BF3: Pacific Theater. Focusing on maps such as Iwo Jima, Guam, Midway, Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, and of course Wake Island etc.

I know that 1942 had some of these maps but I'd like to see them on a heavily upgraded scale. Take the Crysis feel and add it to the game. Like Wake Island in BF2 has like 20 trees and you can walk from one side of the island in just a few moments. BF3 Wake Island would have a thousand trees, think brush and weeds like Crysis, plus be on a larger scale. Bring back the submarines and the naval warfare, increase map size and player count from 64 to 150. Instead of capping "flags" you could cap "zones" which is more of a plot of land rather than a small flag. Capping could be determined by the ratio of troops that your team has within that zone. I've been hoping for a Pacific game with some really nice graphics for a while, however most of the community thinks the ww2 games are dead. NONSENSE!

I could go on all day about some ideas but I'm sure you guys have some pretty good ones as well. But we need something new instead of the same old stuff with better graphics. I don't know how much longer I can hold out for a new fps!

You need a hell of a Internet connection + PC to play on 150 man servers...
And will bf3 be direct x 9 compatible and XP compatible ?

Theres an older game called Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. Basically its 1942 graphics but with 150+ man servers, choppers, tanks, boats, zepplins, landing crafts, all the goodies, and its a FPS. It also has maps that are bigger than the state I live in. No kidding the kid who told me to play it and check it out said that I could spend a whole game (which sometimes takes up to 3 hrs to complete) and run across the map and not make it to the other side. It's a little different but it can be really really fun. I'm no genius when it comes to game design but it just seems that the same ole 32 and 64 player fps games just aren't cutting it anymore. I want more people and more action!

http://pc.ign.com/objects/569/569740.html (this is the link to IGN for Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising) you can buy it now for really cheap.

Now I would just like BF3 to incorporate Bf2, Crysis, and Joint Operations styles of play. I think it would be a great game, especially when JO can support 150 players per server.

yeah and i think the 6-man squad limitation is hindrance to fun as well.. there should be more people in general, and more people per squad. Can you imagine actual platoons of people coordinating an attack?

Yeah, you should definitely be able to divide up more. In a 64 player, there's not much scope because there are only 32 per side, and it practically takes 16 people to cap a single flag anyway, if the enemy is around to defend it properly.

I'd love to see a 512 player game of BF2 with maps 10x the size of Daqing, and with divisions right down from 1/2 the team as one platoon to 6 man squads, that would be seriously nuts. Wishful thinking, maybe in ten years or so though.

                  Re: Bf2 growing old

i never got typhoon rising, but i played the demo. My comp sucked at the time and coudnt run it well enough to be worth playing and it had quite a few bugs, but i hear that the patches fixed the game, not the reverse which we are all well aquinted with. Anyway, the one really cool thing i remember about that game (which i might go buy) is that you could transport tons of people in the transport choppers, instead of the pathetically small 6 of bf2. In the larger choppers, chanooks (spelling...?), there were a few seats such as pilot or miniguns that you could get into, but because of the excellent physics engine, you could also just stand in the back, you could even drive a jeep on and it would stay there. I have no idea why battlefield couldnt do this, but the programmers seem to be somewhat limited. I love the game, but how hard can it be to make it so you can stand in a chopper and not fall out.

anyway, typhoon rising was pretty sweet. you could take a large trasport hovercraft or chopper and fill it with as many people and vehicles as could fit and then drive around and not have to worry about the people falling off and getting tked.

Just noticed that ET Quake Wars is already on pre-sale. They are saying that release date is 04 May 2007. I hope it's true. I'm really anxious to see what goodies is coming with that.

Also, Arma is now released. I'm still a bit uncertain about buying it. Waiting to hear how it performs in mid range PC systems, I don't want to renew my rig before DX10 is really pushed through.

                      Re: Bf2 growing old

What I'd like to see is a geographical extension of the stats tracking that BF2 has implemented--in other words a persistent "universe" where once you've conquered some a piece of e-dirt we'll call...oh..."Karkaland"...then you don't reload your round to find that you've instantly been overrun again, every time you load the game.

I think that would address the size of the maps that were being played on--i.e., you only load a Kardlank size map at a time, but also introduce a larger theater for enlarging your e-...err, ego.

P.S. Congrats to TBF2 for having three interesting topics on their board for three days in a row.

Umm, Joint Ops was basically a sister title to BHD and Team Sabre. Although another decent release by novalogic, your analysis is way off dude. Joint Ops, BHD, etc. were nowhere near the complexity of bf2.

Yeah, I don't understand why BF2 didn't steal some ideas from Joint Operations. Like you said you can load up a helicopter with jeeps, apc's and your teammates and go on a 10min flight to the other side of the map to make an attack. I agree with you, the transport choppers in BF2 just don't cut it. I think its time the gaming community said "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" because the garbage we have been getting fed the past few years is starting to smell. I need something fresh!

Well I'm not comparing BF2 to Joint Ops. I'm just using Joint Ops as an example of some things that I would like to see in BF3. The larger maps, the 150 players in a server, the vast assortment of vehicles etc. BF2 has some great things that JO doesn't even touch on, and JO has some great things that BF2 doesn't touch on. JO is an older game and would be considered outdated by most players. But that doesn't mean that some of the features of the game can't be tweaked with to produce something for the future.

Why do people want more players per game? The fun in games is getting the smallest amount of people without loosing that populated feeling. For example because Quake wars map design, 24 people will feel like 64 people in BF2.
