I find that 1 day I have no problem doing really well and the next day, I don't even get a shot off before I'm hosed down. The weapon often doesn't matter as much as the way you employ it. If you are support, try the PKM(unlock). Try to do 1 or 2 round bursts and cover your teammates instead of rushing first. Prone with a good view until your teammates have a good field of fire in front then move up and cover again. NEVER all run somewhere at the same time unless you know it is clear. Move in small groups while someone covers is the best way that way you dont all get naded at once.
Theres is nothing wrong with the L85A2 you just dont know how to use it thats all, i personally have 7817 kills & 6050 deaths with the medic kit. And i (when i used to play vanilla BF2) as medic used nothing but the L85A1 its a hard weapon to use but once you master it you'll rack up huge scores & kills.
Firstly you need to get used to swapping between single fire & auto all the time so train your finger to move from the W key to the 3 key with out looking. It's really easy to do as you can be near enough touching the 3 key when your finger is on or pressing the W key. Once you've mastered changing firing modes with out looking and as fast as possible you've just won half the battle of useing the L85A1.
Secondly at medium to long range always prone and fire in single shot never ever try and burst in full auto. At short to medium range you can get away with burst fire (2 to 3 rounds at a time) but you should try to be prone or at least crouched when firing. That leaves full auto only ever use full auto at point blanc range and even then aim high and pulse your fire dont click and hold you wont hit anything pulse a third (at most) of a clip at a time.
And lastly the most important thing no matter what weapon your useing is to use your head, your brain is litterally the most important weapon you have in this game because of random deviation (bullets go were ever they want randomly the basterds lol). So squad up and use voip if you can and follow what people tell you to do and watch how they play to pick up the tricks of the trade.
p.s. Stay of the 24/7 karkand servers for now the vets on there will litterally eat you alive, some of them have litterally thousands of hours playing just that map whoring points and killing you so you stand very little chance against them.
p.p.s. The scope of the L85A1 is how the sights really look in real life for that rifle and the British army pwn with it ;-).
The L8 is my favorite weapon, and usually the only weapon I use if I can help it. It's just a matter of switching from full to single shot as you go like the 18zulu mentions. Also I click my middle mouse button to change between single and full since then I'm not interferring with my movement controls at all. The L8 is a different weapon on a ~40 ping server and a ~78 ping server from my experience. On a 40 ping server I can go full auto on a closer range enemy and they will most likely die, whereas on a 78 ping server full auto for a similar range just doesn't even really hit them, so I have to go with single and do very rapid shots.
Sniper ftw... I was at a 3 death to 1 kill ratio until I got it down. Just stick back far enough that you can scope the main battle and cover your weak points with claymores. Ill get 10-15 kills a game with 1 or 2 deaths. Aim for the chest until you get the hang of aiming, unless you have a good head shot. Stay away from moving headshots unless they are moving slowly and you feel confident. Almost at a 1:1 now :)
Well I got BF2 two weeks ago and since then I've improved somewhat but now I just don't seem to be improving at all. I can hardly EVER kill anybody and it's really annoying. I can rack up some points by doing medic etc but it's the killing side I'm crap at.
What I want to do is pick just ONE kit and get really good with it so it's the kit I use all the time. I was thinking of using Spec Ops but then I realised that their weapon upgrade doesn't have a scope. So I decided to go with medic so that I could upgrade to the L85A1.
When I unlocked this gun I was shocked. It is massively inaccurate (I unloaded a clip at somebody standing still about 10 metres away and they turned round and 1 hit me) + the recoil is terrible & the scope looks pathetic. Why use a crappy pointed shape like that for a scope?
This is the scope I mean:
So basically I just need some help as to what kit (let's say you HAD to pick just one) to use. I realise different situations call for different kits but I'm just looking for a kit that can basically be used in every situation/map and still prove to be useful & help me rack up kills/points.
I appreciate the help, thanks

1) Your most played map is Karkand. No wonder your bad at killing because mainly anyone that plays IO goes there and they are good. Go to some other maps or not to famous servers because good server+low pings+good people= you dead.
2) I found this funny. Your favorite VICTIM is a 3 star general, I was laughing my *** of.
Ok first off if you want kills goto the RPK its the default for MEC support I use it and I have all the unlocks but 2 (and I am 8,000 from ranking) trust me its accurate and unloads quickly. The L8 is not unaccurate its just that you don't know the hit boxes for it. At first I thought it was unacurate but then like 4 months latter I tried it and I got really good at it and medic is my least played kit only 28 hour I think on it and my best kit is engi and I have 50 hours on that. So please try the RPK you wont regret (sp) it.
My $.02 as a former competitive CS 1.6 player up to main in CAL mirrors that of a few posts here.
For me, because I played games for years that rewarded superfast, reflexive, accurate crosshair placement on the head, that's what I do in bf2 (save for the whole dolphin diving thing), and typically with considerable results, usually medalling - more golds than not - in IO. But we all know that bf2 is a beast all its own in terms of hit detection and netcode.
I go to the l85 quite often because it (1) lends itself well to my history of tap-firing for the head, (2) does well in CQB, and (3) I happen to like the scope reticle. Obviously, not everyone does. Its recoil is admittedly a ***** and a half, but I'm okay with that.
I also use the m16/ak101 and g36e fairly regularly, depending on what I feel like doing.
Improving as a shooter boils down almost entirely to practice; it's not about your mouse (although a semi-respectable one from the past several years or so would probably suit you best) or some mysterious gun-specific hitbox problem. You could tear people up with most anything you choose provided that you spend time getting to develop a feel for what the weapon can and cannot do regularly in the game. This includes the weapons from your specops kit, the G3 in the assault kit, and so on... and in spite of the cone of fire / deviation rates that we all love to hate.
And do I ever.
But I digress.
The one big piece of advice I would offer is that you not put too much stock into any opinion expressed here, including mine; just try out different kits/weapons, as well as different ways of playing with them (I know some people that refuse to take the g36e off burst fire, as well as some that single all the time, for instance), and take it easy trying to find what best suits you in terms of both firing and overall style.
I love the L85a1 because it does have good accuracy. If you aim their heads accurately, you will kill the guy in one hit. You got to keep using it, to get the hang of it.

"you dont suck, its the way you use the gun"
"if you suck at killing, that means you're to kindhearted" we dont want that in a war.
Another thing i learned through lots of play is that the scope / iron sight are useless at close range. i got into the habit of always going prone and stright into my iron sight, and i would die.
again as it was said before just keep playing and practicing. if you got friends playwith them on local or unpopulated servers so you can get use to the guns.
PS- this bring a tear to my eye, i love how everyone came to this persons aid when he had a very serious question and i believe we my have saved his BF2experience. good job guys :salute:
