You can pick up 2142 here in Aus dirt cheap, there is a plentiful supply on ebay.

Im glad to hear they arent doing well with 2142. I was one of the ones that was "boycotting" the game. Sure i play the demo, but EA/Dice arent getting single penny from me for many reasons. I dont know their individual involvements in their work, but even if its 1 companies fault, the other one still supports them, so I blame both of them. The companies either dont care about pleasing their customers, they are too lazy to do anything about the issues, or they are too dumb to know how to fix them. My money is on the first two, so I pretty much stay away from their products.

BF2 is successfull not because of EA/Dice, but because of the game that it is. There is no other modern combat game out there that allows you to do things that BF2 does. Its basically the only option out there, so we are forced to play it. Dont get me wrong, I love BF2, but there are a LOT of things that need fixing. The fact that it has been out this long, and many of the original issues are still around (some very easy to fix, since some modders have done it), kind of shows how much they care.

You know whats all surprising about this is DICE actually did quite well with BF2142,not financially but game play wise. I find it alot more fun and teambased then its predecessor, along with the shrunk load times for low-end computers.

What I'm trying to say is its not the gameplay that turned everyone away from BF2142, it was the history of EA/DICE put together. This means that EA may have future trouble selling any games made by DICE in the Battlefield series because their record isnt exactly shiny and clean. If boycotts, similar to the BF2142 occur, EA could have a serious problem.

Yes, I noticed that too...its been marked from $109AUS (RIP!!! OFF!!!) down to $99AUS (Not so much a rip-off)

Bronx19, forget ebay. Could ebay give you, 2 large pizzas, a 1.25L bottle of Pepsi, garlic bread/big dippers AND a copy of Need For Speed, The Sims 2 OR Battlefield Vietnam/2/2142? Maybe the Pepsi, I have seen advertisements on Google for, "New and used Pepsi" but the rest in one package? Nah.

Have you played Madden? It's the same frickin game every year just with updated rosters and some new gimick to get people to buy it. It has the same bugs and exploits that all the previous Maddens did.

Anywho, EA is similar to P.Diddy. Both have tons of money, and use it to produce things that will earn more money regardless of quality. The thing about is, if people buy it, they will continue to make more of it.

                  :edit:

Having NOT bought 2142 myself, I decided to do a little research into it and discovered to my utter joy that he was completely wrong. The community most definitely has NOT embraced 2142 in anything even close to the numbers that it jumped on the BF2 bandwagon. According to Next Generation, BF2142 came in at #95 on the list of 100 top-selling games in the North American market for 2006, with only 220,000 copies sold, and $12 million in gross revenue. That's counting Oct, Nov, and Dec, 2006, whereas BF2, after only 2 months on shelves, had sold 1.2 MILLION copies worldwide--so unless the rest of the planet has bought a million copies of 2142, then it looks like Dice/EA are getting the pounding they deserve!

Re: EA gets hit by the karma bus: BF2142 sales

Meh...this subject gets rehashed on a daily basis (see my siggy from another thread today). I think the OP is right, but I don't begrudge the kids that rushed out and bought BF2 .142 one iota.

Quite frankly, I think the folks that were happy with BF2 are still playing BF2, and the folks that got bored with it didn't see the need to fork over another $50 for same game with an almost different title.

Regardless, my understanding is that most of the design/development tools that were used for BF2 were re-used for 2142, so EA/DICE really don't have to sell that many more copies to make reskinning and revoicing profitable. Make the Essex a helicopter, minus the rotors, put a "reactor" skin in it, and call it Titan Mode for half a C-note. What's 220,000 x $50 again? For a mod, you say? See my point?

I'm sure they'll survive without me this year and maybe next, and maybe they'll be better for it, later.

Re: EA gets hit by the karma bus: BF2142 sales

I've played both games (BF2 & 2142) exstensively and IMO 2142 is WAY better balanced in conquest & Titan. Nothing in 2142 rules over another, there is always a way to counter something effectively. (CAN I say J-10)

IMO, gameplay is better and more interesting for 2142. More ways to customize your kit. So the engineer class can fill many different roles for example.

Its really sad that some of you comment on 2142 yet have never played it.
Seriously, go a play it for like 10 hours and see if your opinion doesn't change.
IMO, its way more intersting than bf2, however the biggest downfall is the maps, as they are bland and get boring quick(100 hours). Thats one of the biggest things they need to incorporate.

And you can't compare sales really because we were ALL waiting for bf2 for almost three years with nothing new, so it was hyped MUCH more than 2142.
And also all the crap we went through with BF2 put a big damper on 2142.

I'm guess most folks dl'd the demo and gave it a once-over-twice. It was interesting--new sounds for the guns, new wobble when you get in the walkers, a little more potentially interesting character development...but $50?

I've spent ~$100 on BF2 and I still get a lot out of BF2/SF/EF/AF/Mods (other than 2.142). I intend to get more.

The only reason I bought BF2142 was because my friends bought it. I regret it everyday. Im still playing BF2, I havent touched 2142 since last year. Im not surprised the sales numbers of 2142 are so low.

Yeah, but the demo is not the full game and is lacking sorely compared to the full version. Plus you only get to play one map.
