...okay, im requesting your input on commanders fighting. it seems that many people believe that they should fight, i DO NOT. what do ya think?
Only to defend themselves. That's it.

In my experience, I can't be the 100% attentive commander when I'm busy running around, trying to cap flags, and work in the field. And I defy any player who claims they are.

When there are ONE MAN ENEMY caps of our flags, it is the commander's fault, for not spotting the intruder - because they're too lazy or preoccupied to use SCAN when it comes up.

As commander, I'm usually in the Commander screen the whole round, the only time I exit is to defend myself when need be.

Once Hotel gets taken, I fall back to either Gatehouse or Factory and lay and command. But that initial fight, I will be poppin caps in people
The only problem is, the enemy has taken Factory or Gatehouse, because your lack of SCAN didn't pick up the lone guy working his way to your back bases. You fail.

This being the working phrase. I can run around and cap flags, drop supllies, kill enemy etc while commanding, multitasking is pretty easy if you know how and practice. I almost never use UAV on myself, I just open commander screen and blind spot where I am going. However if the team is completely useless, as I have been seeing more and more of lately, I'll use all the commander assets for my own use and the ones actually doing something. Funny enough I had some guy trying to kick my off my clans own server for fighting and commanding...good times.

You're quick to assume this. So you're saying...the entire time I'm running through alleyways with UAVs covering all sides of the main choke point... I can't take 3 seconds to do a scan and talk to my clan mate who is a squad leader? I am not that incompetent smacktard trying to get my name on the top left. I want my team to win. And I have not lost once when I do this.

So my friend, your assumption fails in all forms of the sense. Go to a new thread and try to push your opinion on others. Or maybe you can take a few seconds to think. Like most of the people in this community don't do.

In my reply, the word your is being used in the "one; anyone; people in general" sense. ie., a tiny animal you can't even see.

You may be able to do that, but the majority of commander's can't. Not that I'm still not skeptical. Everytime I have a commander problem, it's usually to do with him being distracted by other things he shouldn't be doing in the game - actions you describe yourself doing.

That being said, practice what you preach. Then we'd both be happy

I won't disagree since I have never seen you command, let alone play. However, a huge majority of people who try and play while commanding ultimately neglect the command duties.

In it's rawest (is that a word?) form, commanders should be in the command screen 95-100% of the game. The point is that the commander can see everything on the battle field and should be directing squads to locations or using VoIP/Ventrillo to inform teams of what is happening and where. At the very least, typing in the in-game chat should cover it. Things like, "No one is at the Power Plant." Or, "Flank them to the south of the Backyard."

Personally, I don't mind radio spam from a commander, and obviously, I don't mind spamming myself. So what if it gets annoying? The UAV cannot cover every enemy, and when a lone squad or a group of players are capping a back flag far from the main battle, I like to keep them informed about what's happening. If that requires me to spam 15 messages of "Enemy Infanty Spotted," then so be it. I want them to take the flag.

Aside from that, it's better for your team to earn points since the commander's score is based on the team average. What's better: me, as commander, capping a flag, or 3 people breaking away from the main battle to cap the flag?

As commander, I'd get 0 points. Sure it might help the win, or might even be the win. However, in the other situation, one person gets +2 for neutralize and +2 for capture. The other two people get +1 for neutralize, and +1 for capture. That's 8 points my team just earned. It's better in the long run.

I'd be more than willing to command or be on a team with someone from here commanding. I'm not saying anything about anyone's abilities, but it'd help in understanding. I'm kind of rambling now...

:edit: I guess I what I was getting at is that it's basically pointless for a commander to do anything other than command.* Sure there are certain situations that require non-commander actions (kills, repairs, defends), but anything other than that is a waste of time and attention.

:edit2: Lame, I know. Yes, size does matter. Size of the map and # of players does change to role of commander considerably. So don't assume I'm that stupid to sit and rant about every situation or every game.

            *That's a lot of Is!

                Re: glad i got kicked

A good commander CAN multitask with practice. I haven't been playing for very long at all, but I can still do all my commanding duties while sniping, mining, repairing, etc. It's not really necessary on a 64-player map, but on smaller server, and/or if your team is incompetent, an extra person who knows what they're doing (and has commander powers) can be a big help.

One time I had to command and fight at the same time. and the admins on the server were like "Command or regin" and I yelled back "Well if my team listened to orders that I given then, I woudn't have to try and cap these flags" so they shut up and we FINLLY win the round, I am still stocked to this day that I fought and was commander, I had never done that before, lol

i normaly lay down somewhere or defend a back flag

but every now and then im just on a totaly rubbish team commanding as USMC on karkand (full 64player), no one seems to understand how or what the little MEC flags are and that they can be turned into beautiful little USA flags.

so if no ones capped a flag by the time we get to below 100 tickets, ill move to the front lines put up one last UAV and arty spot the sniper on the hill for the 15th time, then bellow over VOIP this is how you cap a flag.

guess what i manage to kill a few people and cap the flag (only time in the match) for it to be recap straight back with a nice arty surprise

Someone of your high grammatical stature should know, when using the word "your" in a generic way, one should say..."one". As I just did. This will save the face of many of those who may misunderstand YOUR post.(I.E., something YOU say)

Yeah, commanders are excellent flag defenders. Usually I'll stay at the one that isn't the closest to the fight, but the one behind that one. That way I'm not right up in the action, but I'm close enough to intercept any enemies sneaking past our defenses.

When you kill someone with artillery, you get nothing. When you drop a car or supply box on someone, you get nothing. When you stab them in the face or molest them with a DAO-12(or any other gun for someone who wants to get smart), you get 1 point. Then these points double if you win, giving you the two points per kill you would have gotten if you weren't commanding. This, imo, is a horrible idea. Because.... As commander, you don't get team points(flag defends, caps, resupplies, blah blah blah). But they're not gonna jip you completely from getting a legit kill.

I dissagree almost 100%. I myself love to command and do so all the time and i fight at the same time fly jets drive tanks ect. AND COMMANDE. I would let the commanders fight and stuff as long as they can do both things and if another team member wants that vehical or w/e let them have it. Most people when im commanding flying or w/e at the same time dont care because i do my commanding job at the same time.
