Dairuka, if you want to save your nerves, never, ever pilot or gun for someone you dont know. Get your mates, or pick up a few buds on the servers and start flying with people you know. Youll not be as frustrated with the mistakes, and you will both develop skills equally on the go, which means more trust and more cooperation. You can literally go through 10 rounds and find people with whom you will only get frustrated, and finding those few good ones frankly just isnt worth it. Youre good on the ground, so I suggest you wait until you get your crew together. Ive been there, and I refuse to touch a chopper unless I know with whom Im flying with. And I dont say a no to a friend-newbie either, because chances are that when I explain stuff to him, he will pick it up rather easily.

I remember 99% of my teaching attempts to anonymous players ended up with me giving valuable tips and suggestions and the spamming OK, and GO GO GO, and then they still ignore it all. Best method to practice dealing with stress and frustration? Yes. Worth it? No.

Alternatively, these forums are FILLED with quality material. Whenever I have lured a friend to the world of chopper flight, here is the material Im giving to them.

*Stregas "A Chopper pilots guide how to be a good gunner"

And a few others that I can find via the search key. You will also be better off if you show your crewmember some ownage videos, like PJumaki or whatever his name was. Not because they are cool, I hate ownage videos, but because it shows how TV dogfighting has its own specialities.

The biggest question I'd like to have answered is one thats probably been asked a hundred thousand times.

However, piloting on Dragon Valley is enough to burn the retinas out of my eyes. Is there any possible way I can change the crosshair on a Helicopter, or Jet to Red/Pink so that it's visible in the bright yellow sky?

Is there a way to change the crosshairs for the TV-missles as well, seeing as TV'ing on Dragon Valley is a common cause of sight loss in most BF2 players these days.

Nope, cant change it. There are 2 options-

1. Get higher ground
2. Use the score list (TAB?) to make the crosshair visible. I know a lot of people toggle the score screen when they TV at Dragon.

Sadly since I'm in Canada, my ping is not really all that wonderful, and I start skipping anytime I'm on a server with 130 ping or higher.

However, I can list a few of my favorite servers that I've been practicing my Helicopter Piloting skills in. If you can play on them without much latency, I'd gladly gun for you. (Even though I've rarely gunned before. I'm usually the pilot.)

The ones I play on the most are Tom Clancy Game Servers (Special Forces), 702recon (Vanilla BF2), and Raging Rebels (<3@Operation Clean Sweep.)

I may be banned from Raging Rebels though, since I got frustrated and teamkilled a jerkoff who was making fun of my piloting abilities (He was a very sub-par gunner who never used his TV missles)... Even though I was being nice to him, and flying with him instead of my more experienced friend. (Who also got kicked for using the USMC Bomber as a Fighter????)

I think one of the reasons why I've avoided piloting Helicopters and Jets so much is the sheer ammount of frustration that comes with using them. Often you have to rely on another person's skill, you're forced to adheer to obscenely stupid rules, you're forced to solo, or you'll have to fight through throngs of rigid angry hordlings intent on stealing your thunder, merely because they want a shot at pub-newb greatness.

no dont solo crist, thats why theres so many chopper pilots that cant fly and only solo. only solo if u need to.

By soloing you can actually learn quite a lot. You still need to dodge and align targets as well as flying with a gunner. I'd say it's harder to solo than to fly with a gunner.

I don't gun or as much as I used to do (actually I don't play nearly as much as I used to either), because:

1. I'm a missing more than I used to. Is it only me or the TV is really messed up after 1.41?
2. Servers where I could freely TK/redline are now admined and/or I'm banned from.
3. Pilots suck.

I'm still whoring the chopper whenever I get a chance, but I now often take the pilot seat. Not wanting to be boastful, but it's been quite a long time since I had a pilot better or as good as I am - what was not rare some time before.

I get 1ST LT's, 2ND LT's and even higher ranked players that can't fly for s***. So what can I do? Fly. This is why I my team score is rising but my SPM and KDR are going down. It's not rewarding (point-wise) to be a pilot, but I realized that it's less frustrating to FLY FOR NOOBS than to GUN FOR NOOBS

Monitor brightness? I use ATITOOL which basically allows you to change gamma with any hotkey you want o the fly. And personally, score screen is better, because it actually allows you to see the crosshair. I dont use it because I simply cant, not that skilled. But even with my gamma correction (which basically is, just adding or decreasing brightness, or at least it shows so), I cant see the TV crosshair any better.

Scorescreen is the only way to see the crosshair on my system... unless I start messing with the brightness, gamma and contrast. I avoid the problem by playing other maps. *shrugs*

For what it's worth though, it's by far my most played map if you pool all of my accounts together.

Yeah but you were on china..

All you have to do is sit back and get 6 kill BH TV's and rape the arty island, and TV jets/choppers taking off..

Try getting that score on the US side from the beginning of the round (IE there are 2 J-10's in the air).

Anybody go on Moongamers 24/7 Oman? I'm always on there and Gunning/flying the chopper, give me a holler some time. I've had some great times in the chopper and some really bad ones. I remember once this guy was begging me to get him the 20 or whater kills for one of the vet kit badges, and we kept baseraping flags and he ended up with like 40 kills.
