I am a very good gunner that can still hit stuff, and yes, since the patch, it has become more difficult. I have been lucky enough to have flown with some of the best pilots. Spoiled really, because being able to dodge, staying alive, and having a pilot that can steadily aim you at targets is a huge advantage when gunning. Lately however, being lucky enough to hookup with a pilot like that has been very, very rare. I have been so frustrated by getting stuck with really poor, can't stay alive for a minute, fly too low, don't setup targets, (dodge?!?..what's that?), just plain clueless pilots, I could puke all over my monitor screen. After I see how bad it is, I suggest I fly. I am not a great pilot, but have seen great pilots, know some of what they do, and can keep us alive a little longer. Thing is, these same guys are usually worse gunners. They never hit anything with a tvm, shoot at other choppers with the machine gun from 400 meters, then have the audacity to complain your not flying low enough so they can machine gun an APC! My chopper KDR has gone straight down the toilet over the last month or so. The only reason I keep trying is because sometimes I do actually hookup with a good pilot, or at least one that is better than me. When that happens, they soon realize I can hit stuff and want to stick with me throughout the round. On top of all that, the J-10 pilots seem to have gotten better and better. A really good one can hammer you all night, even with a good chopper pilot, and make life miserable.
I totally understand a good chopper pilot soloing, or red-lining a poor gunner. Although I personally hate soloing, and have never red-lined anyone. I only hate it when they wont even give you a chance, and tell you to bail out without firing a shot. When that happens, if I can, I will switch to the other side, and then have only one goal in mind. Helo pilot shortage?? ...good ones, yes.
Anyways, as a gunner, there is nothing better in battlefield than flying with a really good chopper pilot. I live for those times. :)
Agreed... your the reason there are not as many good pilots cause people like you TK any one who wants to learn or partisipate..... good job.... seriously way to ruin the best part of BF2!!!
I don't gun or as much as I used to do (actually I don't play nearly as much as I used to either), because:
1. I'm a missing more than I used to. Is it only me or the TV is really messed up after 1.41?
2. Servers where I could freely TK/redline are now admined and/or I'm banned from.
3. Pilots suck.
I'm still whoring the chopper whenever I get a chance, but I now often take the pilot seat. Not wanting to be boastful, but it's been quite a long time since I had a pilot better or as good as I am - what was not rare some time before.
I get 1ST LT's, 2ND LT's and even higher ranked players that can't fly for s***. So what can I do? Fly. This is why I my team score is rising but my SPM and KDR are going down. It's not rewarding (point-wise) to be a pilot, but I realized that it's less frustrating to FLY FOR NOOBS than to GUN FOR NOOBS

yea I played with you that other day and you probably noticed I was missing some easy shots, ur a good pilot btw
Im pretty good, at least i always get the message wtf when u fly we're the terminator of the battlefield. When i have a good gunner and a little backup from a plane to get most of the enemy planes of my *** i can easily run a whole round without being nailed once.
But its true, 95% of the gunners/pilots suck a lot, most without even knowing it for themselves. Just dig it or go infantry with ur mighty p90. If you want to enjoy this game , make sure u are multidisciplinairy and never forget its just a game.

I wouldn't care if your the number 1 pilot in the world, anyone who redlines or tks for a vech isnt anything but a pile of cocktoast.
I usually fly for my clanmate Mole, or I just solo when I can. I hate dealing with crap gunners. Working on my barrel rolls, dodging, and Mole shooting the TV during a barrel roll.
As someone said before...gunning in the Helo is about prevention. My gunner almost always takes out empty tanks and cars and, especially, AA. You may have to rearm more, but rearming TV missles and MG rounds takes about two seconds, rather than repairing.
I have noticed that less people want to fly and there are are more people wanting to gun. For the simple reason, you get mega points for doing so.
I know I could be a better pilot, but since my joystick broke, I have been flying KB only and I warn people when I fly that we are going to be doing a lot of circle runs, but head-to-head helo fights, you better TV up.
The best solution to get people back to piloting would be to increase the amount of missiles like back in the old days. You will see pilots return. Besides, there is not a lot to shoot at when there are only one or two pieces of armor on an infantry oriented map.
