    Re: Helo pilots shortage?

The problem is, people just don't understand the vehicles when it comes to pubbing(unless they're incredibly experienced with or in clans). I've worked with my clanmate for numerous hours in each chopper, I can line him up perfectly, and even go nose to nose straight on and come out alive. I'm not an uber-1337 chopper pilot, but with him, we're an exceptional team.

The two keys to being a good chopper team, are communication(preferably Vent, VoIP is ridiculous in this game), and knowing how each chopper performs and where the TV is located.

Cobra is just a hair under the center "+" reticle. The Z-10 is a bit lower, and the Havok is the lowest, about have an inch under the center reticle. If you can line up tanks and other objects around this spot, your gunner should have a perfect view. I've had pilots line me up perfectly to a tank, except all I'm looking at is sky. Then we die and see, TAKE A FKN SHOT! After that, if you get in the pilot seat, I let you go alone so you die faster.

If you don't take the time to practice these setups, god forbid you step an inch near my chopper. And yes, the Cobra is my baby.

force tk, redlining and refusing to let others fly or gun all fall under this rule.

if you are caught redlining people on any of the servers we administrate you will be globally banned for this infraction...

a helo doesnt have your name on it and you have no more right to it than any other player that is in game..
Yea, thats a good one. On EVERY server i go on, and i play a fair bit, there is always atleast one guy tking for vechiles, forcing tks or redlining. Although you guys try, you will NEVER stop it. Banning a few accounts does squat.

      OP:
I too feel your frustration. I want to gun but never get the chance, i always have to end up flying for them, and they turn out to be worse at gunning then flying. I would class myslef as slightly above average at flying yet in the last 2 months of pubbing haven't found one pilot who could fly better than me. I'm sure they're out there but they're sick of noob gunners and choosing to solo. I think i will follow them

        3. Pilots suck.

I'm still whoring the chopper whenever I get a chance, but I now often take the pilot seat. Not wanting to be boastful, but it's been quite a long time since I had a pilot better or as good as I am - what was not rare some time before.

I get 1ST LT's, 2ND LT's and even higher ranked players that can't fly for s***. So what can I do? Fly. This is why I my team score is rising but my SPM and KDR are going down. It's not rewarding (point-wise) to be a pilot, but I realized that it's less frustrating to FLY FOR NOOBS than to GUN FOR NOOBS
Buddy, it's about to get worst: my average ping in Iqaluit is 625! My BF2 days are over, and I can already see many of the anti-soloing crowd cheering and fapping at the news.

I can see soloing becoming a serious trend in the very near future... and I for one welcome our soloing overlords!

In a full server there are few chances of getting the chopper alone - and I've been getting bans and kicks for kicking out the gunner, and I am just left with some laggy servers where my TV is just too sloppy to be a productive soloer. So, whatever, I just fly then.
In all fairness to others, I would much rather find a half-filled server starting a new round than go in a full server and TK my way into a solo heli. Otherwise, you're practically stuck fighting for a chopper almost no one else will use properly. I would have to say that changing to half-filled servers has been one of my better decisions: no more tking for the heli, no more frustration because of bad pilots/gunners and longer rounds. To each his own, I guess.

Soloing is ONLY good if there are no good pilots around.

I think you were in BF2C.. right? 24P or something... yeah.. well hatchet is an awesome pilot and i'm not sure if you gunned for him, but having a good pilot, will ALWAYS be better than soloing.

Sure with soloing it cuts out the communication aspect so you can think faster, but it just isn't effective.

Now for anti-armor, it is just as, if not more effective than a 2-man squad.

But overall, you will be way better off with a good pilot than trying to solo.

Yes, 24P with ZMan and HatchetX: Z and I used to alternate soloing and letting Hatch fly us around.

The only way a two-man team will beat a good soloer is if the former plays range games. Even then, you can outsmart the pilot and dodge the gunner in many ways.

... but that's for competitive gameplay: I've only encountered one annoying two-man team in my entire time soloing in pubs, and it was because the pilot stayed away at all times.

*sigh* I'll miss this game :)

Yeah i'm not talking chopper battles, i'm talking overall effectiveness on the map. If you are soloing, it's an armor eating machine... but it's NO WHERE near effective at taking out infantry.. it's more anti-vehicle. A good 2-man chopper crew will be good at everything. Chopper battles, killing armor fast, infantry... etc.

Having a gunner makes things so much easier with ground targets, instead of going after them with hydras or the tv's.

i would advise in purchasing your own server so u can exploit it and and gain more points and then you could go out on a friday and impress all the ladies with your soloing skills. wait that last sentence didnt make any sense, friday night? what was i thinking.

on Mass Destruction tonight, I couldnt find a good pilot (I myself can gun decent but cant fly for sh!t) anyways I had 7 different pilots and 6 of them drove me straight into the ground almost immediately on takeoff
the one pilot that flew good got kicked after 5 min for a high ping

                      Re: Helo pilots shortage?

funny thing happened today in SF...Iron Gator
I was gunner for this guy, he wasnt a bad pilot but he was far from a combat pilot....he'd be good flying transport

I try telling him how to take off from the helo pad so I can TV missle the Essex gun......the guy has no clue what so ever, every time we took off he would immediately nose dive to head to the carrier fast and we'd be constantly dodging the Essex, so we get to the opposite end of the ship from the Essex, we are in air to air combat, I cant even see the enemy helo in the TV screen........we die

                      respawn......same thing
                      respawn......same thing

so this guy starts on me about being a noob for NOT using the TV
I tell him "its hard to tv something when most of the time all I see is water"
he says "dumb a$$ right click to use TV"
I says "no idiot, I CANT SEE HIM, I only see whats in the gunners view box"
he says "Dude I dont know what the fvck your talking about, just use the TV"

                      LMAO!!!

so we die like 9-10 times, FINALLY he accepts my squad invite, and he starts yelling on VOIP about how stupid I was and that I shouldnt be in a helo, so calmly (as I was pretty pissed at that) I tell him about the "gunners view" box
after 10 minutes or so, he FINALLY gets what Im trying to tell him about the gunners view box that HE sees and finally understands that Im trying to TV the Essex gun from our helo pad, but before I could get a kill the map ends
first time ever I had dam near gotten a purple heart after spending the whole round in a helo..... 0-17
the next round, he joins my squad, its one of them days when there isnt a decent pilot in the whole server let alone on my team........there was a guy on the other team calling his pilot all kind of names LOL
anyway, new round, he's in my squad and wants to fly, and wants me to gun, so I says ok, he listens to EVERYTHING I tell him FINALLY and he starts doing a better job at setting me up, I took out the essex everytime from land and took out the enemy helo 7 out of 10 times Id say
so were doin better now, and he tells me he's sorry for yellin at me and that he NEVER knew about the "gunners view" box, and he appreciated my patience, then he says "I always thought my gunners just sucked, here it was me the whole time" LOL

this not only happened with this guy, but later on a different IG server, I had a similar problem with a different guy, only he wasn't as dense and it only took a few minutes to make him understand how to set up a gunner.......he thanked me as well

point to my story.......AMAZING how many pilots dont know how to set up their gunner

I wish I could fly better, I know what to do....I just have trouble doin it

I will pilot you folks when ever you want. I consider myself as one of the better pilots. My gunner has always only one task, to watch where copters nose points, nothing else. I'll keep watch of the surroundings and keep myself aware. I'll stop the motion for a second if target is difficult. Even targets straight below us, I'll point it to you, but you must be ready.

I love gunning myself, but most of the time I eventually end up to be the pilot because I'm only semi good gunner but excellent pilot.

Now if there is someone who is patient enough to let me learn that TV'ing, I would be interested. I can take ground targets well, but still much to learn with those copters. Just wish that I find a pilot who keep us alive for me to learn...

Sadly since I'm in Canada, my ping is not really all that wonderful, and I start skipping anytime I'm on a server with 130 ping or higher.

However, I can list a few of my favorite servers that I've been practicing my Helicopter Piloting skills in. If you can play on them without much latency, I'd gladly gun for you. (Even though I've rarely gunned before. I'm usually the pilot.)

The ones I play on the most are Tom Clancy Game Servers (Special Forces), 702recon (Vanilla BF2), and Raging Rebels (<3@Operation Clean Sweep.)

I may be banned from Raging Rebels though, since I got frustrated and teamkilled a jerkoff who was making fun of my piloting abilities (He was a very sub-par gunner who never used his TV missles)... Even though I was being nice to him, and flying with him instead of my more experienced friend. (Who also got kicked for using the USMC Bomber as a Fighter????)

I think one of the reasons why I've avoided piloting Helicopters and Jets so much is the sheer ammount of frustration that comes with using them. Often you have to rely on another person's skill, you're forced to adheer to obscenely stupid rules, you're forced to solo, or you'll have to fight through throngs of rigid angry hordlings intent on stealing your thunder, merely because they want a shot at pub-newb greatness.
