I dont think its ruined the game for me, however sometimes the IO servers become tedious with all the nades and claymores.

Karkand is my most played map, not because its my favorite, but sometimes I am in the mood for just groundfighting with no air. If I was a point whore I would have reached my rank LONG ago.

OP, you have a narrow minded view of Karkand. I play the map because I enjoy it, not because of points.

There are so many easy way to get points in this game, Karkand isn't the only one.

        Wow, excellent Garibaldi, excellent.

With game tracked points, people (feel that they) have a lot more to win and loose. Win and lose as in personal items. Points make people play selfishly. And if they get recorded somewhere, and you keep them, you will play in a manner that you, you, you do better and better.

Take away stat tracking and you get a lot more people that will do a lot more for the team, and take one for the team.

About reminiscing, and memories. Jesus, guys- PRINT SCREEN. Ive got a whole bunch of screenshots and its cool to look at them and have these nostaliga moments.

For what it's worth, I think people would still "own" their vehicles even if the game didn't keep permanent statistics, partly because they build up their skill and think themselves more deserving. It's not the same as CS, where everyone can purchase an AWP, so to speak...

I don't like the statistics system either, but it's probably here to stay so there isn't much of a point in complaining about it.

My advice? Stop spending your time and energy on this and concentrate on a more important problem like global warming.

You and I both know that Special Forces in Infantry Only mode has far more to offer than that brown skidmark of a map. Sucks to hear you've gotten bored of it.

Ghost Town IO > All other maps in IO.

Still. Mashtuur is my place to go hiding when I don't want to deal with Attack Helicopters, or if I feel like hopping into a tank. It's simply a better made map which offers much more in the way of balance. Plus, there are "always" plenty of battles around the Mosque area, all it lacks is the Grenade and Claymore spam. :)

              Isn't your server a 24/7 Karkand one?

Re: Has the persistent scoring system ruined the Battlefield franchise?

I think the effect of stats is exaggerated, it's a easy scapegoat to problems in game(play). Somehow, the unpopularity of mods is always due to "EA and ranking system" instead of mods being, well, hardly interesting. If somebody acts like a jackass, it's not because he IS a jackass, but, stats.

There's tons of people in BF2 that aren't veterans in fps gaming, probably most that I've ever seen in a game (apart from Quake, for obvious reasons :)). When somebody is, lets say, not working in a optimal way for the team, it's really hard to say if it's because of stats or just because they're new. And persistent stats or not, people still work for their personal goals. Same arguments we see here have been said in other games in promotion of removing the scoreboard entirely.

I personally think stats have had positive influence in game. They draw people in, resulting in populated servers (good for everyone), and actually do nudge new players in somewhat right direction. And the negatives - well, I think most of it would've been there without stats as well.

Persistent global stats aren't really anything new anyway. UT had those (ngstats), and I think Tribes 2 had something like that as well. Sure, there were people that were disturbing the gameplay by playing strictly for stats, but if it wasn't the stats, it would've been for something else.

Re: Has the persistent scoring system ruined the Battlefield franchise?

SWAT4, plain vanilla, stat tracking excists only for some servers in a form of custom stat tracking.

SWAT4: The Stetchkov Syndicate EXP pack, introduced stat tracking.

What happened? At the start it was all fine and dandy, EXP pack introduced new gamemode, new batch of weaponry and even a melee attack mode. Things started going to hell soon with people more and more playing in a selfish manner. Its not as bad as in BF2, but only because the player base is small and has a fairy large group of die hard SWAT4 fans.

Stat tracking definitely, undeniably affects peoples gameplay, period. You can be an exception, but if you log on to BF2, does your server filter have RANKED box checked or unchecked?

Re: Has the persistent scoring system ruined the Battlefield franchise?

We all knew from the beginning (July 05) that EA were screwing the mods when they didn't release the mod tools.

As time went on we realised that the ranking system is much the same as crack cocainne & EA are nothing but crack-whore dealers.

Now everyone has their 'hard earned stats' & wouldn't dream of going unranked, only for clan matches/training.

BF2 has evolved into a FPS infantry only urban warfare game because that's what people want, even before stats it was the same, think back to BFV, all the popular maps were small & urban.

The majority of people want an action packed game, not a high scoring point game.

So i would have to vote no in the poll, although i have never liked the Battlefield conquest game mode simply because it is not balanced. Why aren't squads rewarded for completing commander orders successfully ?

If we could choose i would play SF entirley on IO & drop Iron Gator, piss poor map on IO.

I'd like to think otherwise. My view is neither narrow minded, nor is it exaggerated. I have played the map, and have witnessed the grenade spamming, claymore spamming, and complete disregard the average 24/7 Karkand player has for his or her team.

Don't you think it's a little foolish to exclusively play one map? The package you bought contains 11 other maps for you to explore, and enjoy.

Third party mods were extremely popular in both previous Battlefield titles, both of which, coincidently, had no stat tracking system. The two most recent iterations in the series not only a small number of mods in development, but the mods that are released, have a very small player base.

People don't play mods for a single reason, and a single reason alone. They will lose their stats, and thus, they feel as if they have nothing to play for. POE2, PR, EoD, USI. are just a few of the mods which have been released thus far, and all of them have a pitifully small player base in contrast the the total BF2 community. All of these mods provice a whole new experience.. for free! People have paid EA for a new experience and content, when all along, free content has been right under the community's nose.

BF2 would be the exact same game without stat tracking. The difference would likely be a more thriving mod community, and generally less exploiting and generally less ***-hattery.

In the long run, I think the ranking system has done more harm then good.

i think ea hurt themselves when they put stats and ranks into bf2.

i believe it is A major reason why some ppl didn't move onto bf2142. they're not done adding stuff to their bf2 stats. i know i'm not.....
