Fall of Berlin/Cebere Landing/Camp Gibralter is the Karkand of 2142

Camp Gibralter and CL can be fun with smaller amounts of people, but Berlin is almost always bad no matter what :hmm:

Well, I played 2142 for a few weeks after it's release. I'm only at Master Sgt. Gold, but it's a lot of fun. I started playing BF2 again recently and I think I'm going to stick with it. I'm not too sure what it is, but I like it more.

Air is a joke, yet anti air is powerful as hell. Vehicles are unoriginal, without purpose. Weapons are sometimes hilarious, like on the European side, the assault rifle has these sparkling, radar-looking thingies on the side, which have no use but to tell you that its "teh futur!!".

Weapons are pisspoor, but they at least sound better, really much better than BF2 airsoft guns do. Pisspoor weapon perfomance is balanced with incredibly restricted and uncomfortable movement. Even tactical simulators feel fluid and comfortable with the only downside being slow. BF2142 feels as if your soldier is packed with the Russian cold suit, armor plates and 2 sizes smaller boots (watch Armageddon to see the Russian cold suit, Russians find it rather hilarious).

There are a couple of really interesting concepts like hover/jet mode for the aircrafts, walkers as a whole, rifle attachments. EMP system, and skill based STA (except for EMP missiles of course).

But every good thing in the game is overshadowed with lack of imagination, some farked up stupid thing or plain unfunctionability.

Jets are a joke on the battlefield, Walkers have stupid "rockets" that bounce out like flashing ping pong balls, APCs are basically just for "getting there", and not really any troop support (Imagine a schoolbus with a SAW on it). And weapons, well, DICE thinks that a rifle with only technological gadget, as the illumino sights, should be 3 times bigger than your standard M4... with flashy odd sh!t on it.

Personally, I am not afraid to confess, I was looking forward to the game, hardcore. I imagined that DICE would pull off a game that was worth the anticipation. I mean, if you have a future Battlefield game, you could at least use some imagination and actually create a game where everything fits together and feels as if it belongs there. Even Quake, Doom, Dune, all non-todays games, set in future or alternate world, have all units fitting together to form a nice setup.

BF2142, DICE, just slammed together a BF2 mod with futuristic looks and here you have it. Even the net bat is a shameful copy from GRAW.
Superbly thought out and to which I echo immensely.

          2142 is deeply disappointing.

You only have to look at Ebay to see how the consumer values these two products.

BF2 is 18 months old, and the vanilla CD version sells for $50AU.

BF2142 is 1.5 months old, and the DVD version sells for $45AU.

BF 2142 is still $90 at retail.

                    I haven't played bf2142 so i can't really say bf2 is a better game.

What I can say is that you know what you get when select a shotgun as a weopon in BF2. When you select a plasma laser gadget in bf2142 you could get anything. Bullets are better than lasers.

I can see BF2 becoming like CS with a very large community of players who regulary play. BF2142 I don't think will have that 'classic' feel.

Re: BF2 or 2142? that is the question....

I have to give the nod to BF2.

I'm not as critical of the classes and vehicles as some, but I don't they are as diversified as in BF2. Each has a purpose but not as exclusively it's own (purpose) as in BF2.

The reason I rank 2142 behind BF2 is the entire package and gameplay in general.

The smaller infantry orientated maps in 2142, are not very strategic. If there's ticket bleed you'll never know it. The games almost always end up within a few tickets of each other, regardless of how many spawns you possessed. There's too many choke points and if you get behind your going to lose. I have no problem with that, it's the length that you can hold on that's the problem.

Be done with it, with quicker bleed. It's as if in the smaller infantry maps it's fighting (fire fights) for the sake of fighting. The spawns hold little to no value except towards the end when you've pushed the enemy back. Even then the kill takes too long. It's great if you like lots of action, but after awhile it seems pointless. Entire small infantry maps feel like the HOTEL to SQUARE cluster faq. That's ok for one portion of the map, but the entire battlefield plays out that way. They seemed designed to maximize encounters with enemy but nothing else.

In the larger maps the terrain is too flat. The space in between spawn points is the only thing that differentiates the large maps from each other. In BF2 your could say "Dragon Valley is hilly", or "Gulf of Oman is like an amphibious landing". But the 2142 maps don't have any large scale "theme" or character to them. There's no pivotal spawn point in them. There's no terrain to be gained that has a big advantage. It's hard to describe. Maps have very little cover, but yet the vehicles aren't dominant so it's poor fit. Most big maps feel like tank maps from a mod.

It's not a bad game, it's just not as good as BF2. It's very similar , but with some of the things that made BF2 great removed.

The key mapping drives me crazy. They added more features (weapons and items) yet made mapping keys less diverse and with less options. They moved vehicle positions to the common controls , thus forcing less multiple keys close to be used. So with the addition of having vehicle positions and more weapons to map in the common area, your left with less choices when mapping keys in the vehicles. Oversight or just plain poor decision making on EA/DICE's part, doesn't matter, it's still bad.

The whole titan lag thing is unacceptable, it creates an entire mode of play that is subpar in performance. Plus the BF engine isn't that good at indoor environments. It feels clunky and claustrophobic, along with the poor performance it's a deadly combination. This is a major portion of the game that simply doesn't work well.

For instance when I play with the same group of guys, if we play BF2 we have to communicate a lot. "We need to do X, Y, Z", or " We can't let them have spawn X or Y". In 2142 we hardly talk, there's no need to, because the maps don't lend themselves to that type of game play. We cap a spawn, we defend a spawn. We take a spawn, we lose a spawn.

Infantry feels clunky. Sort of "pot luck". In BF2 if you brought up the iron sites you felt you could do better with more concentration and preparation. In 2142 you don't get that feeling, you kneel or lay to maximize your aim, but other then that there's no feel for a good shot.

There are some interesting elements in the game play with additional kit items. But it's more gimmicky then anything else. Or it's dumb downed version. Squad Beacon? That's the same as an SL staying alive for his guys. Except now you doesn't even have to do that. Just get to a good point you like and flop down the beacon. It's a device for impatient squad leaders that want to lead the rush. NewsFLASH, squad leaders aren't suppose to lead the rush.

There are some good things about 2142, the airpower has been toned down. Insanely dominant pilots that can influence an entire game of 30-60 people are gone. Support is support and can't be used to pull a "Rambo".

Graphics are cool, but they copped out on a few maps and made the buildings old, but post apocalypse (ruined). Sort of stupid if you ask me. But not a huge distraction. Some like it, I don't.

Oh yeah there's that whole unlocks ribbon, badge, points thing. They give you plenty of carrots on strings in 2142 if you like that stuff. But personally I think it's just to attract "offliners" who aren't true multi-player gamers. They "beat" 2142 like an offline game, and treat their teammates as AI in the process. It encourages a flurry of glitch finding and stat padding that get's in the way of the gameplay. There are some squad based points to be had, but in general a lot of the 2142 servers are just massive point getting cluster faqs.

                      Here's my Total2142 forum sig.

That says it all. There is such a fervor for this insipid system it's sickening. Everyone thinks it's a new way to play a first person shooter, when really it's just bunch of malarkey. They assign a pretty little graphic to some obscure statistic, then players fall over each other Tk teammates and disregard every other thing going on in the game to get a graphic? At least most of that is done in Bf2 and the players in servers now are concentrating on the game itself, and not a bunch of cheap hooey.

Re: BF2 or 2142? that is the question....

i got 2142 a few days ago and i have about 20 hours on it already, and im not really sure right now which game i like better, one of the main reasons why i like bf2 better is because of the modern day theme, thats pretty straight-forward, not much can be said there

but i also like air vehicles in bf2, its not about 1 pilot not being able to change a whole map, thats just because the game is new and there arent enough good pilots, i have run into only a few so far who are extremely good and can change the tides of a map, as an excellent jet/chopper pilot would have in bf2

i kinda like bf2142 infantry battles more because hit detection is accurate, bullets usually go where they are supposed to, and sniping is easier; i feel like in bf2 the hit detection absolutely sucked and sniping was damn near impossible

sadly, id have to say technical issues play a big role in my decision because bf2 takes FOREVER to load, and takes a million years to verify client data, 2142 takes about 30 seconds at the most to do both, bf2 takes easily 2 minutes to load up a map and verify the client data

but after those 2 minutes in bf2 i never lag at all, whereas in 2142, on titan maps i experience horrific drops in my fps, im talking an average of 15-20 fps on the titan and like 30-40 when they are just driving around on the map, titan mode is a TON of fun because its new and an interesting concept, but i feel like i cant fully enjoy it with 20 fps

in the end id have to give the tip to bf2, although im still going to sit on 2142 for a while and see if anything better comes out of it

Gimme a break, one of the best maps of SF (Warlord) became a friggin nightmare because of ppl trying to get the explosive badge by doing kamikaze runs with clays. I stopped playing it because of that sh!t. You also need 700!! yes 700!! hours to get the gold badges for the kits. For the most part 2142 badges are atleast quicker to take.

Also in 2142 if you play as a squad leader and have a good squad you get alot of extra points which benefits the entire squad. Both in terms of field upgrades and bonus points. The squad beacon is also something I always use when I'm a squad leader.

I've played countless clanwars in BF2 and know all to well the weakness of the balance in BF2. In 2142 I've not yet experienced any weapon or vehicle that feels overpowered or cant be countered.

The fact that they are UNLOCKS, while they have always been a standard issue items, makes it a rather poor sarcastic argument in favour of a game that smells of unoriginality.

Then you havent played sh!t. Apart from serious bugs and glitches in game (J10 and other jets heatsource disposition and hitbox mesh problems) every weapon or vehicle in BF2 can be taken down. It just isnt the simple "jump in, click twice and jump out" type of effort that is necessary.

The more serious the vehicles get, in the power ladder, and the higher the skill of the players using them, the more effort you need to input to take them down. There is NONE of that in BF2142. The fact that I, solo engineer stood my ground at a silo, against countless of incoming armor units, speaks of the fact that its not challenging.

BF2142 is a notch down and step backwards in terms of gameplay challenge. Lot of people have said that they dont feel frustration in the game, and that everything can be countered with everything. The same people say BF2 is one hell of a nightmare. Since these people have not tried to apply any effort into their game, you can see that BF2142 benefits to the rushing, intuitive (not thinking), lazy player. Now ask yourself, is that a GOOD thing? It can be a lot more fun, yes. But since the challenge factor is out, and the need for improvement is off, you can see the reason why BF2142 is losing its player base rapidly.

On the similar note, BF2 isnt what it used to be either. There are a lot of changes that did the game good, but most of them either didnt do anything or made it worse.

And your input on clan war experience is sad to be honest. If theres a game, and theres clanwars, surely the strategy part should involve around a certain problem. BF2/2142 should be a CHESS game, not CHECKERS.

In public plays, if youre a medic and see a tank rolling in, you dont lob grenades on it. You sit the fvck down and hide. If youre not in a jeep or STA site, and you see a helo passing by, you dont stand there, you dont shoot it, you sit the fvck back and hide.

And an addon to that- in public server games, I have seen too many times where the players apathy towards a problem has given the enemy air force or armor a free pass to rape them. They choose to b!tch over the chat, or call kick votes. Nobody goes after the problem. Everyone just rushes to get killed. I dont take these kind of people seriously and I sure has hell dont take people seriously who promote grey mass, simplified gaming and no challenge in a videogame. Beating Super Mario Bros on NES, and just about every NES game Ive played has offered me more challenge than BF2142.

Also in 2142 if you play as a squad leader and have a good squad you get alot of extra points which benefits the entire squad. Both in terms of field upgrades and bonus points. The squad beacon is also something I always use when I'm a squad leader.
Who the fvck should care about the points. You see, this is exactly the rushing mentality thing. Ive met only 2 squads in my BF2142 50 hour play time that actually knew what they were doing. Thanks much to Lugal from Secretsofbattlefield.com. I dont remember the flags name, but it was the Demo map. We stood our ground at the first flag next to enemy main. We kept that flag with a purpose, and we had a plan, something higher and smarter than "Ok, we got this one, lets go on to the next one". You say squadplay. No, rusing towards a flag, setting down SLSB and rushing IN to get the flag and then moving on to the next is NOT anything really new. You just get more points that way, and you may not even benefit your team. The flag behind you gets capped, and youve basically done nothing but to fill your PTS sack up. There are key locations and flags, and people dont look up to defend and keep them because that doesnt bring in any points (and as a matter of fact, its HARDER to defend than to attack).

Ive played a number of clan wars for SWAT4 clan, and there has always been a central problem(s) that we took into account in our strategies. Whether it be a certain weapon use (pepper spray) in certain situations (tight quarters), or gaining a strategical position and bleeding the enemy dry. Even public games revolve around this, intuitively. Both BF2 and BF2142 do not have that because people just rush into, to get more pts. And you promote that as a good thing?!

2142 blows... the hybrid helo/plane in it is garbage... I don't know what pee brain came up with that, but its a toy compared to the MECH's and other vehicles.. Totally ruined their player base with this.. They lost about 90% of their pilots. Gunning would be cool if you could hover and get a kill, but the gun sucks so bad if its pointless to, and the TV missile sucks.

As far as infantry goes, blows to. It don't have a feel to it that I personally would like. BF Series has always been modern, or past. This future **** is kind of lame... I mean ET:QW will be awesome because its the first series of that style game, but for the most part BF2142 is just crap.

Graphics, nope they suck to. With the exception of the snow the graphics are worse then BF2. BF2 has awesome graphics compared to 2142.
