Depends on the server I guess. 16-22player servers using 64man size maps might work out.
Ive been in a lot of games on Wake Island where I'd be stranded, wounded. Never seems to be many medics on that map, on the Island for the most part.
Ive used the Attack choppers and utility choppers to help heal people as a medic, which I suppose is on the same basis but I need the Huey factor. Let's say a squad could call in for a medevac. You buzz in, take out the wounded. Fly a pattern around the area, the previoulsy wounded, now healed can jump out and get back to the fight.
I guess that would work if A: People worked as a squad and B: They called you before everyone was dead...and were just injured
in all honesty, if you really wanted to be a medic in a heli, then you could anyway, just fly to who ever needs healing. besides from that...........

I'll be a medic and hover over snipers. They always say "GO AWAY I DON'T WANT A RIDE" until they realize that I'm bringin back to 100%. I don't stay unless I hear the heal sound.

Eod= Eve Of Destruction is a Vietnam mod for BF2, look around u will be able to find more info on it
also very true. they have hueys in that (unreleased) mod. (it will be free).
Also - EOD has a bf1942 version (already out and free) with very well made hueys. BF1942 is about 10-20 bucks. Buy it and download EOD plus the latest bf1942 patches (1.6 and 1.61). You should enjoy those hueys while waiting for EOD2.

If you want to play EOD2 now, you need to be a tester. As you are a student pilot, I suggest you ask them about it, since you could be very helpful to the development of the mod (all free mods are volunteer based - even the developers).
i think it is safe to assume that the medic class would be almost dead if it wasnt such a pointwhore's dream. the only reason people play as medic class is to farm revive and heal points in addition to the kill score. there are a few people who play the class for fun or to help the team, but from my experiences, that is far from the reason. therefore i assume that if the medevac wasnt also connected to points in one way or another, it would be left almost untouched. i personally see no point in a vehicle dedicated to keeping a teammate alive in a game dedicated to killing the enemy, taking flags and above all else stats.
i would be really pissed off if i had gotten killed on a map like Shonghua, Dalian, Dragon Valley or Oman only to be revived in a helo and taken to a base (mostlikely an uncap or base not of my choice) and have to get myself back to combat.
if hueys were used for some other role such as say, a gunship or transport helo for MEC than i can see people getting to like the huey. the Iranian military has many Bell Uh1s or variants and i would have much preferred to ride into battle in a huey than in that slow, huge deathtrap they have for MEC now.
Why wouldn't a Huey model fit in the "conflict of 2008"?

haha morey, I liked how you asked what a huey was and there is one in your sig.. Anyway, Huey's fit more with vietnam and that is why they will go good with EOD and not be a part of today's battle, although the Bell 412 is an awesome helicopter that is like the upgraded huey. It's definitely something I could see being put into a mod as it is a really cool chopper:
