man, i hate those claymores, seems they always come up out of nowhere.... the ones on the ladders are the worst.... I seem to always fall for those claymore tricks.
Press the F10 key and you can look from a 3rd person view when you climb that ladder. At the same time you can check for a clay at the top of said ladder :)
I literally never fall for the 'claymore at the top of the ladder' trick anymore, as I never just rish up ladders without looking.
If I see one, I'll make my way back down, and try and counter-snipe whomever is up there from a different position.
Hehe I got a nice spot on D.V. where I can empty 4AA's , 3 TOW's, 3 fixed MG positions and cover 12 spawnpoints. Not at the same time but when I traverse an area of 50 meters up and down I can cover them all.
I've got a spot like that on Ghost Town, and while it doesn't let me cover nearly as many spawnpoints or the like, I'm able to three spawnpoints at once, in a matter of seconds. I can easily end up with 20 - 30 kills and zero deaths.
The bonus? I seem to be the only one who knows about it. In my 50+ hours on Ghost Town, I have never once seen anyone else in the same spot.
I was thinking of sharing it with the community, but I figured I'll keep it a secret a little while longer.
That spot on D.V. is now used by more people but it took allmost six months for others to find it :) If you got such a spot I wouldnt share it either.
Most of the ones I started using in SF, when it was still new, have long been scoped by others like the Lone Belltower in GhostTown. I only have one left in Warlord that nobody uses :)
On the other hand looking for new spots keeps the game fun and your wits sharp. I found a new spot on Gulf of Oman last week that I now use as backup.
That Belltower is almost always occupied by at least 2 Snipers. I'm able to counter-snipe them from my position (granted they are facing the right way).
Yeah, and I play a game to have fun, and having fun is inherantly hard when half of your team is a freaking Sniper.
I guess I should withold every opinion I have, since many of them may be complaints.
Exactly
I do not "cry" because I don't like what weapon the enemy is using, or where he is using it
I am however baffled why some of my team mates use the sniper kit (or any kit) exclusively no matter what the situation, or their skill level w/ that kit
I constantly switch kits to match the task @ hand
If I have to cross a large open space I go sniper
If I am trying to take a flag I go assault
If I are in a squad I go medic, or support
If armor is camping us I go engy, spec op, or AT
If I are near their main I go spec op to destroy their assests
Isn't playing the same kit all the time boring, & restrictive?
But I understand some ppl have "limited" skills, they can't move, or think fast, & can't aim w/ out a scope, so they play sniper kit
I in all honestly confess that I realize that this is a useless complaint, because if a player sucks @ the sniper kit (the easiest kit IMO), than he would suck even more in other roles, so they are probably doing the best they can
There is a saying, "If all you have is a hammer, the whole world is a nail"
BUT STOP THINKING YOU ARE 1337
note: This does not apply to ppl that are actually GOOD snipers
IMVHO the only ppl that should be sniper 24/7 are the 1's that can maintain a 2 to 1 k/d ratio w/ the weapon (not counting clays), while taking, & defending flags

If someones not doing good with sniping, how else will they get better? They need to keep sniping to get better.
And another thing, who cares if they're not doing well as a sniper? Its qabout having fun, not about satisfying you.
I myself am a sniper, and I usally (90% Of the time) keep my kills above deaths, but I still completely disagree with your opinion.
Bad snipers can't become good snipers without practicing.
But this game isn't "Sniperfield 2", you should try to be good w/ all the kits to be a good BF2 player, & an asset to your team
With the increasing problems related to reduced framerates and increasing interpolation issues (not ping because that's a separate issue) the sniper becomes the more usable kit option. The other kits generally require more action/movement which because of the above issues results in only more D and less K for your Kill / Death ratio. Sad, but thats how the patches have influenced gameplay for me anyway. I'm trying hard to uninstall, clean and experiment with avaialble drivers and options to improve this picture but it isn't getting very far given that the BF2 patch is the only remaining constant.
Stated another way, EA may be slowly killing this game as the performance decreases.

My $0.02 worth.
Reinstal your game. I had that problem also and I did all system tuning as you did. Didn't help, reinstalling the game did help. Now I have even better framerates than before the patch. Hope it helps for you also :)
I've never ever played as a sniper in BF2; Battlefield Vietnam and Desert Combat taught me it's a boring and arrogant position to play.
There is nothing like killing a sniper who hasn't seen you with a barrage of automatic weaponary, the smug git.

..How is sniping..arrogant?
Oh, and Garabaldi, I added you over Xfire, but chances are I'm not going to be on BF2 this weekend.
Playing a bit of 2142 tonight, and some clanmates are expecting me on tomarrow on a diff. game, lol.

The trick I used was to keep standing and use the pillars at the top of the tower for cover. I think 99% of the snipers go prone on that top landing but thats a sure way of getting shot.
Order of movement was sprint to tower > check for enemy snipers wanting to get in tower (place either claymore or shoot them) > go to second landing and place claymore at ladder > third landing (balcony) place claymore > top landing > go prone and check both the Hotel roof an the roof between the two helipads > if clear take up a position behind one of the pillars.
Everyone just hates snipers because they kill you alot.
only good sniper kill you alot and the only reason I hate snipers is because they get the m95 and tk you to get in the choppa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
