Either:
1) the problem is caused by something happening client-side or
2) EA is ending support for BF2 so this is the only patch everyone downloads from now on

Ugh, I hope the latter is not the case. I already have started looking at the calender for QuakeWars. I never did for 2142...but after this last year and half of tripping over their own d*cks, DiCE has written themselves out of my pocket book.

Why don't you patch the game already and start playing?! Large or not, it's a patch you need to have.
I've played some more today and I've experienced a strange effect (just during a round), like some kind of skipping frames. Of course, I missed some shots because of it.
I remember it was an artillery strike not that far away when it happened.
Strange, I've never seen this behavior in BF2 before. My ping was in the 60-70 range.
Did it happened to anybody here?

Exactly, I've yet to experience a server crash since 1.3/1.4 so I'll hold off on that download until they make it 6MB. No f*cking way am I getting a 536MB file for something that affects me 0.0001% of the time.

Well, you're lucky or you only play on a small server or only 10 mins a day.

The one thing i can say is that the majority of the BF2 community i see here, are complainer's, everyday looking for something to complain about, and today was perfect, everyone getting there +1 post count up and complaining about something that is going to be fixed in a day or so (smaller 1.41 patch). GG!

So here's a novel solution, download the darn patch, and...wait... DON'T INSTALL IT YET TILL YOUR LOCAL RANKED SERVER SWITCHES OVER! WHO CARES IF ITS SO BIG!

Sales are probably down on BF2142... time to put out a patch that re-introduces all of the server crashes.

I just installed it and restarted my PC... I now run BF2 and firstly notice that the text quality at the account window is 800x600-ish, rather than the higher resolution I normally use. Disregarding this, I attempt to login and receive a messsage after a few seconds:

"There was an error listening on the socket"

Any ideas...?

My favorite server hasn't upgraded to the new patch so I won't til they do. I haven't had any crashes in several months so this patch is really irrelevant to me.
