    Nobody cares about winning =/

Since there's apparently some problem with the power grid here that makes the whole house shutdown every 20 min or so, I'll use my time to post this =P

OK. Everybody knows that teamwork is rare on public servers, but with the (sic) new IO mode it just became worse. I am not talking about making huge team scores by reviving/resupplying, but the overall teamwork that drives a team to victory.

To illustrate this, I'll post a couple of screenies from different rounds:

Notice how my team is winning by quite a margin (100+ points) and the enemy is on the bleed, but does nothing.
BUT notice that the overall score (see the bottom) for both teams is the almost the same!

There is absolutely nothing forcing or encouraging a team to win. Victories does not give points. Heck, maybe it's even more confortable to do nothing, and wait for the enemy to get to your base! You don't have to walk doing this.

When you have vehicles, it's a bit different because a team sitting in the main base is usually a team being raped, so people actually CARE about it.

I think a good solution for this would be somehow award (point-wise) a team for winning.

I agree. I blow a gasket when I'm on a team that doesn't care to win, and I'm the one at the forefront coaxing them along, then end up by myself trying to fight 10 or more enemies.

Prime example is being USMC and rushing LAKE at the start of the round. For an ambitious team, it is pretty much cake and steamroll the MEC to grab a foothold, then go deep from there.

On a loser team, they just stay in the USMC base and snipe, or make a half-assed rush to the rocks halfway to LAKE, then start going chicken**** when a few casualties happen.

The funny thing is, in I/O, the enemy defense is simply made up of bunnyhopping, nade-chucking supply guys and snipers. A simple forceful rush inside their grenade radius and shooting them is easy, but most just don't bother.

So now, in order to keep my blood pressure down playing with a team who doesn't care to win, I just accept my fate and settle in to snipe as well.

In my AN_800#_GORILLA thread you said,

      Re: An_800#_gorilla
"IO is fun, but should be unranked or have different stats of those from regular BF2"

I am now totally confused, are you for, or against IO?

      Inquiring minds want to know

btw, I have a theory on what is happening, ppl would rather lose, than "jack up" their k/d, so they dig in, & play defense, I like charging in too, but when they dig in you have to slow down, & take your time, & flank them to make them fight in CQC

It usually goes like this when the teams are mismatched, or unbalanced, 1 team is "out shooting" the other, so they force you to endure a 'nade storm if you want to advance, & they dig in w/ a bunch of snipers, it becomes a "battle of attrition"

My fav tactic is for our snipers to keep their snipers busy while our squads sneaK around the long way to get a foothold in the city (a squad of snipers, & medics)

We make a run over the right w/ medics droping packs all the way, while snipers stop, & engage their snipers, & pick up health as necessary

I agree, that's how it's supposed to work. Snipers take out snipers so the rest of us can do our job... Or the snipers cover the chargers/defenders of LAKE.
It's just like choppers and planes. The players don't bother shooting each other down, and instead rape the ground forces and troops. I always get so mad when a j10? has time to kill little old me walking to the next base, because he's not worried about a tail. Planes nulllifies planes, armor nullifies armor, should then default to infantry vs infantry. Most players don't understand that, or don't care to.

I have not read all these long posts, but I will just say that I am so committed to winning that I TKed someone last night for stopping in the middle of no where for 30 seconds while they were in the vodnik drivers seat. People just don't want to push!!!! They would rather just run into a 20 yard melee and hopefully get one kill. That is so BS, go for the gold and see if you can get 3:1 ratio by the end just ground pounding.

Patton said it right, you don't win by dying for your country, you win by getting some other SOB to die for his.

I just installed PRM, and hopefully there is a lot of teamwork in it.

You won't find real teamwork on pubs... You'll only find medics who revive you even if there's a squad ready to shoot you. Noob medics usually just try to get the 2 points for reviving, they don't care if they die, because they got their 2 points... I never revive someone if there are enemy around, I kill the enemy first, then revive.

If you want real teamwork in IO, I suggest scrims/match or BFPro.

90% of my game is made up of working balls out for the team, capping flags and supporting attacks. That other 10% I reserve to arse about with a sniper rifle, enjoying a ciggarette and a cup of tea.

Mind you, almost all of my game time is spent on a clan server filled with clan members and regulars alike who work together and even talk to each other on VIOP. Pub servers are generally awful to play on, in my experience.

Re: Nobody cares about winning =/

Me and a mate go pubbing every Friday night, last Friday was the worst I have ever seen. Wake island, it took 10 minutes for my squad to take the first flag.... not one single player spawned on that flag. The entire chinese team came down on our position and we lost it. Rinse and repeat, same thing no one spawns on our flag.
They are still trying to swim/boat/helo/jet/snipe/TK their way to dry land.

Next map Is Dalian, same thing except we get a chopper full of soldiers, head to the right, land, me and my mate run for the flag, the others from the helo all run in a completly different direction....WTF.

So the rest of the round was spent trying to get just ONE single flag and dont succeed. We left after that match after seeing half our team had scores like Teamwork 0, Kills 0, Deaths 0, so what the hell were they doing?

I play to win.....all is not lost, there are plenty of us out there.

I keep telling people to go capture flags while I destroy the armor and helis... but they would rather hinder our team's ability to win by taking away the powerful vehicles from people who can actually, oh... I dunno... use them!?

It's just a game, but I find it extremely frustrating to lose because people don't learn their f*cking lesson after having been shot down for the 30th time in a row, 20 seconds after leaving the carrier by the same helicopter in the same damn place.

There's no incentive to win: you don't get anything out of it so ... why bother? "Go for stats" is the general consensus, it seems. I should get with the program then, hmm?

                            "One" skilled squad?

I counted 12 [24P] tags in that screenshot.

Looks more like a clan invasion than a randomly thrown together squad coming together and making a difference on a public server.

QFT! I brought this up way back in April here:http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68579

Points, points, points! that's all that matters to most. This game would have been so much better if they didnt have a ranking system. I still play DC on occasion, because of that fact.
