The load times, especially the verifying data seems to be related to your internet connection.
Normally I am one of the first players entering the map and my specs are low.
      I have a Athlon 3200+, a x850 pro and 1 gig of generic memory.

There is really a big diference in load times if you tune down your graphic settings...mainly the textures.

To the people with EXTREME verification times: check to make sure your drive hasn't been put in PIO mode. Google it. I went from the last into the servers to one of the first and I don't have a bad@ss rig.
I have found striping to have a minimal gain in performance. Striping overcame a bottleneck that really doesn't exist as much anymore with todays motherboards and drives. Yes, a 10,000 RPM drive is a little faster than a 7,400 RPM drive. The difference in cache size makes the rotation speed less of a factor, though. My buddy got two 74 GB Raptors in RAID0 and I got my extra 300GB 16mb cache 7400RPM SATA drive at the same time. We both click "join" at the same time and we both get in at almost exactly the same time. We both have the same proc and RAM. I know we clicked join at the same time because we were in the same room. I went with the 7800gt and he went with an x1600 because he is an ATI fanboy.

          1. My system is 15 month's old (but I did upgrade my memory, & DVD burners this year)

          2. I am not bragging, I am sharing my knowlege of what it takes to load maps fast

          3. I did not say my system was the top of the line, I said I load the maps fast, I DO

          4. The thread topic is about how fast you load into the game

          5. My system OC's great, & is gaming stable, but BF2 is not stable, so instead of OC'n my memory, I just have it set to tight timings which is almost as effective (cpu, & mem OC are not nearly as helpful as gfx card OC anyway)

In retrospect, which 1 of us is being "silly"?

Man I feel like I'm way down on the spec list...

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with an Athlon XP 2100+ Thoroughbred core chip (1729 MHz, OC'd to 1950 MHz right now, still playing with it). Last week I finally upgraded my GeForce 2 MX400 card to an ATI X1600 PRO so I could play this game. Yesterdy took out my Corsair XMS 256 stick and Kingston 512 stick (both PC2700) and put in a gig (512x2) of OCZ 3200 in dual-channel. And it's STILL an outdated system.

A simple Yes or No perhaps even quoting the load times would do,, not comparing eachothers e-ego with their pc specs.

large OB cache gives an advantage in moving files smaller than the cache size in bursts

Example: a 16mb cache HDD will out perform a 8bm cache HDD in transfering files of between 8mb, & 16mb in burst transfer (no advantage if the files are smaller than 8mb, or larger than 16mb)

However the high rotational speed of the 10,000rpm drive will prove superior in sustained transfer rate of very large files (files of 100's of mb's like loading BF2)

My next PC may have 15,000 rpm SAS HDD's in RAID0

                  It’s true.
I have one 74GB Raptor in my system and 2GB of RAM and I’m always among the first people at the start.
Less than 1 minute, I’ll say… but time is subjective.
My antivirus is always on. It only bothers me when it’s getting an upgrade.
Sometimes I simply look at the score board and wait for others to spawn before I do it myself. I don’t really care for vehicles and going alone in battle is not my idea of fun.

Not really to bash, but using raid 0 is mostly just a waste, more for the epinis than anything else. It's usually better just to buy a single faster drive than to use two. As for my load times, takes me about 30-45 seconds to get in a game.
"Not to bash", but where do they sell a single faster HDD than what I use?

What is faster than a Raptor?

Using 1 10,000rpm drive is better than 2 7200rpm drives in RAID0, but what single drive is faster than 2x 10,000rpm drives?

I planned to build my PC to load fast, I could "afford" the necessary hardware, it does load fast, I don't consider that a waste, I only paid $110 a piece for my raptors, that is DIRT CHEAP for "enterprise" HDD's

I could have got 2x the gigs for the same money if I bought slower HDD's, but I don't have hundreds of gigs of data to store, I am not trying to stroke my "epenis" w/ hundreds of gigs of storage space I don't need, I built my PC for a purpose, & it servers that purpose well

The beauty of RAID0 is that if you use 2x100GB of HDD's in RAID0 you get 200GB of storage space, so where is the waste?

I am really sick, & tired of you ppl pushing your college kid, shoe string budget values on me

Dalian: USMC, PLEASE go for the f*cking Reactor Towers flag first! I can't stress how important that is. China get Main Entrance and a 2nd heli... don't you think it would benefit your team to have another one as well!? I agree w/ you, however, in a Dalian plant CAL-open match I pixel shot a guy standing on the Essex flight deck w/ the T88 maingun (I practiced that shot all week), & shot down an F-35 w/ the T88 in a practice scrim

Considering you're using an older model 36gb with 8mb cache, a few new 7200rpm drives can be faster. Now if you're talking about a newer model 36gb (or 74, 150) drive with 16mb cache and the updated firmware, then you'd be correct. As for the 1+1>1 analogy, with raid 0 and games you're not going to see much of an improvement at all.

For storage, you do double the amount, but you also double the failiure risk, so if thats worth it to you, great.
