I'm assuming he meant no effort at loading the game with the right hardware.

RAID 0 is striping correct? Is your machine and all-around "home CPU" with pics/movies/mp3's etc. etc.? Or strictly a gaming rig, with a back-up file server? I'd be leary about striping with anything important...one goes boom and there goes the data, if I understand right. I have 2 identical 300 GB's, but I'm a little leary on striping it.

      Radar, Zahir,
For sometime, the two of you couldn't have been the last ones in the game; yep, cause I was. I have just an average system, but now (w/o changing any HW) I'm one of the first to spawn in. There are some good Tweek guides and PC Optimization guides out there. I think TotalBF2, or EA's site, BF2 Player, BF2s, or other sites (Secrets of BF2?) might have a link to some of these guides. The in game performace of my PC increased significantly.

      Hope that helps.

        My (main) PC is a multi-media server w/ 2x DVD-RW DL, & a TV tuner/analog video cature card

It is the backbone of my 3 PC home network

There are 2 ways to do striping to safe guard your data

        1. Have 2 partitions, w/ 1 for OS, & the other for "My Documents", that way if you need to reformat your files are safe, but you run the risk of losing your data to HDD failure

        2. Put your OS on the RAID0 striped array, & "My Documents" on a 3rd HDD

I use a combo of both techniques, I have 2 Partitions on my RAID0 array w/ "My Documents" on the 2nd partition, & then I periodically "back up' my files onto the 3rd HDD

I also have RAID0 on my "back up" rig

I already said you need to have all programs disabled from runing in the background (including antivirus), to take it to the next level you have to disable all unnecessary services from running in the background

Blackvipers guide is the most comprehensive guide, his site is currently under construction, but here is a copy

ECGN servers have a one minute start time. For the slow loaders. If you can stand the "OMG WAY SO LONG" or " ZZZZZZZZ" or "45 seconds WTF" That last one I reply 60 actually. :p Then come check it out. Type ECGN in the server browser. The IO server is the only one that fills up these days. Kinda defeats the purpose of the start delay. But still a fun place to play.

RAID cannot provide a performance boost in all applications. This statement is especially true with typical desktop application users and gamers. Most desktop applications and games place performance emphasis on the buffer startegy and seek performance of the disk(s). Increasing raw sustained transfer rate shows little gains for desktop users and gamers, as most files that they access are typically very small anyway. Disk striping using RAID-0 increases linear transfer performance, not buffer and seek performance. As a result, disk striping using RAID-0 shows little to no performance gain in most desktop applications and games, although there are exceptions. For desktop users and gamers with high performance as a goal, it is better to buy a faster, bigger, and more expensive single disk than it is to run two slower/smaller drives in RAID-0. Even running the latest, greatest. and biggest drives in RAID-0 is unlikely to boost performance more than 10%, and performance may drop in some access patterns, particularly games.
Not really to bash, but using raid 0 is mostly just a waste, more for the epinis than anything else. It's usually better just to buy a single faster drive than to use two. As for my load times, takes me about 30-45 seconds to get in a game.

thats exactly what I do on a 74g raptor with my programs on a separate partition. plus I have a 2nd sata drive for data backups.

of course you could always use a I-ram or 4 150gig raptors in raid-0 if you want faster. =o

Are you still pushing your ancient raided 36Gb raptors and 6800 GT as a top of the line sytem?

I've never been beaten into a server. In fact I am normally snug in my vehicle or capping the first flag before anyone spawns. Sometimes I load so fast I get disconnected for "modified content", because I load the map before the server has. Then I have to reconnect and still get into the server before anyone else.

I get that server error message all the time

I will probably upgrade to SLI soon, but it will be for gfx performance improvement only, my rig still loads extremely fast incomparison to even sata3 7200rpm 16mb cache HDD striped RAID0 array based PC's

Last years 10,000rpm HDD's are still the faster @ sustained transfer rate (burst is meaningless) than any 7200rpm drive today, & I do have 2 gigs of DDR500

My 6800GT is OC to 6800Ultra Extreme, but gfx cards have nothing to do w/ load time, only gfx performance

The penultimate of this was Berlin in BF42. Germans rushing like mad to throw their three nades at the start down the alley, Russians sprinting like mad to evade said nades and get in the tanks.

I wasn't talking about load times, I was expressing how silly it is to brag about a couple year old system as if it's top of the line.

I have my EVGA 8800 GTS overclocked to GTX performance. My dual core processor is overclocked 40%, ram 40%, video card 32% core, 25% ram... Everything on my system is overclocked while gaming, because if it isn't gaming stable, it isn't stable.
