I hug the ground. Same with the jets, on wake in the J10 I stay an atl or 2 or 3 over the water headed for the carrier.

it depends what map..I usually fly transport so in wake island I fly low to avoid ground to air and hug the shore below the top of the bank and go around to drop troops off at the air strip or other spawn caps. As attack helo I fly high to mid and low in the valley and pop up and hit ground targets then duck back down if there is a lot of jets...blowing them out of the sky is more fun though lol.

I generally recommend that people stay around an altitude of 75 because they usually have trouble spotting armor at higher levels, and either can't see or line up their gunner when they are too low. I have no problem with good pilots varying their altitudes because they know what to do, when to do it and most importantly how and why to do it.

Sheesh... It depends on the map.

Some really good pilots when flying Dalian for example, will fly really close to the ground to avoid getting shot down by jets (assuming the enemy jets are good).

Re: Heli go up or down?

wow I guess most people here dont have much experience in the chopper, flying low and being able to spot ur enemy first is the best tactic ever, I know the gunner gets pissed but thats because most pilots dont see **** when they fly low, you have to trust your pilot, thats what clans and friends are for, I gotta take some of you guys for a spin on daqing or dalian

here are a couple of paragraphs I wrote on my clans website

"ok Im about to explain why I fly the way I.......fly, you guys can do the same

well if you are flying with me, alot of times you are going to think that I dont see what you see but most of the time I see it, I just dont say it or dont line you up right away, why??

because if I know the enemy isnt that good Im gonna take my time and make him think that I dont see him, plus there could be more important targets out there, like AAs, I fly low alot and I think that is a great tactic because you cant be seen easilly plus its way more fun then flying at regular altitude, some people I played against would ask me "how come you always see me first?"

well when I fly my eyes are all over the screen, not just in front of my chopper, taking a look at the sky or to the sides from time to time helps you spot the enemy first, most of the time I dont feel safe when Im flying with other people coz I dont thnk they pay alot of attention and most of the time we end up dying just because my pilot couldnt see the chopper that I spotted a couple of times(yea good pilots are jhard to find) so.......if you are flying with me there is no need to feel unsafe coz I observe alot and if I hear someone spot the chopper or tank or w\e Im on my way there to line ou up so you can take him out, most pilots wont do that for you, ghost(clan mate) is one of few pilots I like flying with coz he knows what hes doing

Im not calling my self a pro pilot but its not about fancy flying, its about observing, if playing against more skilled oponents, I will usually play the sneaky game and suprise them

            here are a few tips:

if you see a chopper and you know that he cant see you this is what I usually do:

well if hes in range I just take him out, if hes out of range.................btw most pilots dont do this coz they dont even know if hes in range or not, anyways if hes not in range and he doesnt see you there is no need to panic and start rolling, take ur time and sneak up on him

            another tip:

do not get too close to your enemy unleas ur a pro with heli rockets, most gunners cant gun at close range, once ur guner fires a missile you need to start rolling imediately(sp), doesnt matter if the enemy is firing or not coz you want to be in the middle of a roll once he fires, not at the start of a roll, I hope ull understand what Im talking about

so basicly, stay calmed and play smart, attack choppers are always first on your menu unleas you know you dont have competition, dont line me up for a transport chopper if theres an attack chopper on my right or w\e"

now you dont need to fly low all the time but If you know what ur doing and ur good at it then go for it, as I said I fly low most of the time, pilots who fly very high are sissies and the ones who fly at regular altitude.........well they probably arent having as much fun in the chopper as I am

flying low is ok depending on the situation......when you fly low you have all the terrain and stuff for cover....

I rekon arround 100-250 feet is a good level to be.

That's why I'm usually stuck flying, I always end up with the pilot that either rams things or uses the chopper for a transport and bails on me.

Re: Heli go up or down?

Not being able to TV while the pilot is flying low is a misconception: if you're flying with a good pilot, he can lift the nose and give you shots. I know because I do it all the time...

Tanks? It's so statistically improbable for them to actually hit a good pilot flying low that I don't even consider it a variable in my calculations: besides, they're usually long gone by the time I use the terrain.

Us air freaks know the ropes.

I fly low most of the time because when I am flying high I can't see **** beacause my graphics card sucks, that will all change when I get a new card though
