Air Force, Great. I used to be in the Air Force, welcome to the game. The best advice for a beginner is to squad up and stay with the squad. I always tell the new people to pick the squad leader from the best squad in the last round and get into his squad, if you can. When in doubt look at the scores and join the squad with the highest score that you can get into. Thats the best place to learn. Good Luck and hope to see more of you here. . . . . . .Red

My name in the game is the same...Dave88LX Sorry about the gay-*** rhyme. I tried playing live today, but I was the idiot running around the opposite way because I didn't know where I was going. Then I got on a map where I started on an Aircraft carrier, I spent the whole round trying to figure out how to get off the ship. LOL! I tried flying a jet and a couple helos, bu I either crashed or went out of bounds and was killed. I was invited to a couple squads but couldn't quite figure it out.

Hell, I don't even know how to cap a flag yet or how the points system works. Still working on it though.

Actually, the jets will come to you if you stay on the carrier--you know you can jump into the AA at the end of the ship, and there is another AA up a couple of ladders in the middle.

If you choose the other spawn point on the carrier, you can jump in the boats.

If you're just starting (and I hate to say this...and I'm in for a flaming...) you might want to sort your maps, and choose the ones on Strike at Karkand. There should be plenty of low-ping servers, the map is all land-based (no aircraft, no boats), with a few vehicles to mix things up, but it will give a newcomer a sense of how to aim, where to shoot, etc. Jets take some practice (42K points and I've killed ~8 people in a jet...mostly from accidental kamikaze...:hangs head in shame:...)

              Good luck.

Jesus Karkland is huge. 'Nother stupid question is the flags, I don't know what button is to "capture" it. Not in the manual either.

Can someone explain, or point me to a link how the whole round points thing works? Objectives? This instruction manual blows.

Re: Some really "dumb" beginner questions.

To cap a flag, you just hang out beside it. There is a decent radius around it, and most flags require ~20s to turn white (neutral), then another ~20s to turn to your team's flag. There is a blue/red bar below your minimap that animates this process, slowly switching from fully red to fully blue as you stand in the capture radius. You can only capture enemy flags, and some enemy flags (those that have a red circle around them) aren't capturable at at all. The more people at a flag, the faster the capture process works.

Your best source of info is going to be the bf2wiki. There is a link on the home page.

                  Good luck.

edit: You might try smaller maps. The smaller maps only have three-four cap points. Also, servers that do not allow vehicles (infantry only) are going to make it more difficult for you to explore the maps, since you're plodding around on foot.

(are really good site, I recommend to check this out especially: http://www.secretsofbattlefield.com/hitpoints.php )

Also I recommend you to use Qtracker instead of the regular built-in server browser.

                      Get it from here:

                      qtracker.com

                      install, go to

                      \Qtracker\Filters\Game

                      Create a
                      Battlefield 2
Folder, download the file from my sig, and extract the folders into the "Battlefield 2" folder mentioned above.

Run qtracker, right click on "Battlefield 2" and "Find Servers", left click on "Internet Games" (beneath "Battlefield 2"), and in the upper right corner you will see a bar which does 4 things: (by order)

                      1. Connecting to Qtracker Master
                      Wait.

                      2. Retrieving Server List
All you need to do is make sure it's about 5000-7000 servers.

                      3. Refreshing X servers
Again, make sure it's about 5000-7000 server, and wait till it's done.

                      4. After it's done, check the filters you want (in fact next time do it before the whole process), make sure you see a list of servers, and click F4. This will ping ONLY the servers that were not filtered out by the filters.
It gives you the exactly same result, except saves you a lot of time. That is becuz pinging takes like 3 times than refreshing (the same amount of servers).

                      Double click the required server.

                      PS
Check QTracker Settings and enable auto-connect to games. You know, write down your BF2 username and password there. This way you will be auto-connected to the required server.

                      Good luck bro

This is my first post and it involves A stupid question.

If you leave a battle before the end of a round, does it not count your stats? I think i have noticed this but I have only been playing for about a week.

Yes it does count. You will get the points and the win or loss. Another helpful thing to know is that sometimes you will wind up on a server where the game is about over (score is like 200 to 20 or something) and you have been put on the loseing team. If you dont score any points, or die, the loss will not show up in your stats. I might be wrong if I am someone please correct me but I believe this is correct. Good Luck. . . . . . .Red

OK, extra tips for beeing a fair and FUN player:
                                (add some of your own!)

                                1. the most annoying thing you can ever do is to force TK. Forcing TK is standing in front of a populated jet, and forcing him to run over you and eventually TK you. DO NOT EVER DO IT!! People will really hate you for this.

                                2. Don't spam claymores (the sniper explosives), though it's a pretty good way of getting points, it's kinda annoying.

                                3. At first, stick with the medic kit because it has good weapons and you can get scored rather easily, but after getting some experience try to play with the other kits. It gives the game more sides!

                                4. Hmm... Though I count myself as a jetwhore, don't spend all your time on flying... Capturing flags and joining a squad is fun either! Personally when playing in a squad I get like x4 points then when flying, though I like flying better :\

Add some of your own, i'm out of suggestions...
