if you look closely, you can see the j-10 behind the missile. And seeing as it is close to perpendicular to the f-15, then the missile probably hit. But whatever.

mabye if the jet gets REALLY lucky and the missile explodes early or something. but if it contacts the plane and explodes on it, the tail is gone. if the tail is gone the fuel is going to burn in the lines and blow the tanks on the wings or belly. if that happens the cockpit is going to explode from the concussion around it.

Real AA missiles dont actualy contact or touch a target unless the target pull into the missiles at the last second or something wierd like that. In fact its better if they dont contact the target. At least the US missiles dont.

They are designed to explode next to the target for maximum effect. Sending metal rods that are exploded into lots of pieces into the target like a shot gun with buck shot. The theory is that the shrapnel will tear through the target jet, breaking it all over and effectively taking it out of the battle.

So it could be that it kills the pilot with shrapnel or tears through some control lines…and the pilot looses control and has to bail out….or tears open a fuel cell which starts a fire….pilot bails out.

Most of the time it’s a combo of things and the shrapnel tears through parts of the planes structure and then the plane is weaker…and then because of the combination from the explosion of the missile and the speed and g-force the plane is pulling it just comes apart….add in some fuel leaking over hot parts and you get a denigrating ball of metal on fire.

That said its not totally out of the question to see a plane survive. I was in the Air Force and there was a training accident where one pilots sidewinder launched do to malfunction when he armed it, and hit another US plane. A F-15 to be exact. The F-15 was badly damaged….tore most of one tail off….shut down one of two engines, punctured the starboard fuel cell…..etc. The plane limped back to base. It was in no condition to fight and in a real battle the pilot would have probably bailed out if an enemy kept coming after him. It was pure luck the plane made it back. The fuel cells try to seal themselves to prevent leaking fuel from touching the hot tail area of the plane and starting a fire.

I can't imagine how people talk about reality and BF2 in one sentence... have you ever looked closely? The front wheel is out! One of my favorite graphic glitches since the demo. That is maybe the cause why BF2142 doesn't contain retracting wheels on any vehicle :) BF42 didn't have that problem. So please, tell me which front wheel of a plane will be still in place after fliing about 400 mph....
