To correct what was said about 1 missile taking a plane down, it's not entirely true. A lot of time, missiles will track the plane, and eventually when they get close enough to the heat source, they will spin erdacially because the heat seaking software is so good that it can track exactly where the hottest part of the engine is,

Eventually, the missile will make contact, BUT most of the time while spinning, it will veer towards a wing, clipping it and causing the missile to explode. Depending on how fast the plane is moving, the explosion could do very little, because when you think about it, the explosion happens and stays in the pot it happens, it doesn't travel through the air, the air particles seperate WHERE THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED, not actually on the airplane.

In essence, the airplane can outrun the shrapnel (which most AA missiles carry) causing little to no damage.

actually I've heard it will sometimes take more than 1 missile to take down a jet.

it also depends on what plane is hit, if its an airliner or summat, it will be in deep shizzle, but it will still be able to fly, if its a fighter jet it has a very low chance of surviving but it can survive depending where and how bad it is hit.

in my carrer i have never seen a stinger take down a plane unless the plane was going 200 mph, never seen it

Exactly how I see it. Looks to be chasing the flare. But as they were just released, seems like the jet is taking a turn the missle can not do, hense the smoke trail in a continuous pattern. Think the jet was ok even without the flares.
