Re: Ive come to the conclusion...

In my opinion high ranking players aren't entitled to air vehicles any more than everyone else. That kind of elitist attitude really grates me. The fact that the helicopters and jets can become nearly unstoppable death machines for experienced players reflects a flaw in the balance of the game.

Stop being a whiney heli whore baby and share. How about being a gunner and giving new pilots pointers? Or, are you just selfish?

Everyone has bought the game so everyone has the same right to use any vehicle on the server.

Well, you haven't seen me. I have never redlined anyone. Please stop making such broad statements about rank.

... but condescension proves my point!

Just accept elitism (your lovable, arrogant superiors) instead of getting stressed out and angry over it: odds are there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
What on Earth are you babbling on about?

Re: Ive come to the conclusion...

I am a guy who plays to win. That is my one and only motivation. I got the first pistol badge and that was it. I have 0 knife kills because getting a knife badge would only deter from a win. Even using a knife doesn't make much sense. That's the type of player I am.

But I still give some one a chance to drive, fly, pilot, gun, or do whatever. Don't you want your teammates better? In the long run wouldn't it make them better? While I strive to win, losing is part of the learning process.

BF2 at best is an amatuer sport, or team orientated pastime. Let's not forget that. It's hella fun, and part of the fun is the people with which you play. Treating them like second class players all for a win or to get puffy chested about flying is very poor sportsmanship.

Plus being eletist about being able to fly jets in this game is fairly laughable. They have no stall speed, no GForce black out simulation (which is easy to code) and are essentially magic carpets with weapons. Anyone who maps keys for a few minutes can be skimming the tree lines and soaring through the clouds in no time. They may not hit a lot of targets, but essentially they are flying. While they may be difficult to master the rewards far outweigh all other vehicles. All other vehicles are grounded in physics that at least attempt to mimic their reallife counterparts, that cannot be said for Jets.

If you want comptetive flying and assigned responsibilities according to skill, join a clan, that's what they're all about. When crunch time comes they'll want you in the pilot's seat.

But for public servers, any type of rank priority system is too little to late. It would be a catch22. You need rank to fly. How do I get rank? You need to fly. But I can't fly because I don't have rank. Etc etc etc. You think people TK a lot now for Jets? They'd start Tking ever over ranked player on the airfeild before the Jet spawns. Then TK for the Jet itself.

Not to mention any thing like that requiring rank would only promote and make stat padding more enticing. People stat pad just to have a rank next to their name, and have badges not grayed out on their stats page. Imagine what they'd do for access to vehicles ? *shutters* The thought makes me nauseous.

I agree with Sloi that everyone may have an eletist streak in them somewhere (guilty as charged) . It's when that streak is acted upon in relation to others, that things can go bad.

I said MANY. Not MOST. Not ALL. Feeling guilty? I have never been intentionally TK'ed by anyone under SGM. Many accidentals from newer guys. NO INTENTIONALS. I have not run into a single new player to this game who feels he is entitled to a vehicle and will TK for it. Only people who have the mindset that they are better than everyone and so if they can't have it, no one can. Never had a lowbie throw himself under the tracks of my tank, either. Those guys have all had shiny **** tacked onto their e-penises. When quoting me, make sure you at least understand the message, mmkay?

We can't control the nature of our very beings. What we can control, however, is our actions. Be cool to one another, even if it means less points or chopper/jet whorage/pwnage. I know most people could give a **** less about the feelings of others. Just wait until the shoe is on the other foot and someone is in a position to stick an e-tool up your 4th point of contact. You'll hope that they're cool and at least lube it up or try to ease the pain a little. Some people feel that they are entitled to fly because they are good at it. Other people can get a level of proficiency by practice. I'm sure pretty much everyone can agree that single player matches can help your ground game. At the same time the bots are artards when it comes to the air. Either they fly around like morons or they are omniscient. There isn't much grey area. Living, breathing humans are the only way to really get better.

All the smacktards that I have came across, who ruin the game in jets/helis have all been high ranking players. TK for J10's, attack uncaps etc etc.

Hmmmmm........I was a truck driver in the US Army, 1st Division 3rd Brigade 5th Battalion ADA (Aircraft Defense Artillary), mos 16T, drove everything up to the 988 series HEMTT (10 ton rated, 60 ton full loaded 8x8 Heavy Expanded Mobile Tactical Tractor, the Patriot missile platform), & never saw a "Duece, & a 1/2" (2.5 ton 6x6 straight truck) w/ an automatic trans

Funny, the "boot camp" people have to go through in order to play in America's Army hasn't deterred anyone: it's simply a way of ensuring a base level of performance and I can't see why someone would refuse. Look at it this way: would you rather fly with a complete unknown or at least have the knowledge that he has passed licenses certifying him to a particular level of skill? I'm sorry, but buying a game doesn't entitle you to fly me into trees because you somehow still derive pleasure from doing so. Multi-level licensing and priority systems are the way to go...

I am w/ you all the way about licensing, so don't take this the wrong way pls, but boot camp in AA DID deter me, I went thru boot camp IRL so it was "boring as hell" to do online LOL

I understand and agree that it can be annoying, but I see it as an opportunity to improve myself and guarantee to others that I am qualified to a certain degree, depending on the license level. I think it's respectful too: I'm not wasting a potentially great gunner's time and skill by flying aimlessly or making love to trees and on the flip side, he isn't trying to gun tanks or take pictures of the horizon.

                          :)

Like I said, I am w/ you all the way, as a "matter of fact", I practiced in sp for a couple of hrs., & then in an empty server alone for a week, & then for a few days against clan m8's in an empty server before I ever commandered an aircraft in this game

Once in an air craft you are no longer a medic or what ever, you would instantly change over to pilot class. If you bail out you would revert to the medic or what ever class. Thats my thoughts any way. . . . . . . . .Red
what good would that do, what would be in the pilot class, ohoh i know you get cool aviator glasses. i aggree with you about the need for a certain amount of points to be a pilot.

I don't see what a certain amount of points acquired outside of an air vehicle would do to increase someone's proficiency in it: focused practice and testing is what we need.
