i know im going to piss off a few ppl but.. up yours!! lol
i like sniping from time to time, it really depends on the mood i am in but i will say this... the pla n mec auto snipers are for the true rookies and noobs who call themselves "snipers". you often find that they are very good at putting there claymores right ontop of CP flags too. they'll run right into a squad of enemy soldiers just for the hope that there suicide will gain them another claymore kill or more..
as for sniping, learn to aim higher than the torso and get the prized HEAD SHOT. one shot one kill. nothing sounds better than the m95 or l9 with that smooth bolt action and the white letters stating you killed another bad guy. until you can perfect that, you may as well grab the l8 from the the medic kit and use it. its like you dumb joke svd rifle except with more ammo and when someone shoots you, who cares, med packs to spare! i think thats what buddy was trying to say a bit earlier (someones post about the l8).
ps. is it wrong to laugh at you who use the auto snipers? all i hear is bang bang bang and im still alive. all you hear and see is BANG SCREAM and you will respawn in XX. yeah, i know i like that lol.
im not a fan of the auto sniper rifles as you put it, i prefer the L96A2 and rarely use the M95 i like that fact when i can get 5 kills with 1 clip, however i only ever seem to manage that on Mashtuur on 1 particular rooftop its just one spot that gives me an idea vantage point over a few flags as USMC, ive tried to repeat it as MEC to no avail,
to me a sniper using the SVD (PLA Version) should be running around the map like a regular soldier than to be hiding somewhere looking for that one perfect Head Shot,
as the whole medic guns appeared in this topic for some reason, i find the G36E to be a better snipering gun than the L85A1

so true, and more often i now find in i/o mode a silly sniper right up in my face using his rifle trying frantically to kill me.

dont get me wrong, i love the g36e. i find its better for short to med range though. tough call on long. the l8 is somewhat of a sniper rifle itself. the scope and aimer are very similair including the range. the one bad attribute about that gun though is that it can be as worthless as a pkm when aiming. sometimes your lucky and get the headshot, other times you can empty a clip on someone right next to you -
seriously, since last night when i was dueling a sniper literally right beside me with my l8, i had to run away and heal myself and reload because the gun hit everywhere but him. that was with the aimer on his head and single shot with pauses for the first 15 rounds. the last 15 i switched to automatic as i became worried and frantically wanted that sniper dead.. lol
i wasnt sure so i looked it up says L96A2 on bf2tracker and here just click on your stats link :p

ive found that out so many times it gets annoying, i only find the use for it at close range, but whenever i go to a point where i want to go prone and snipe i would put down 3-4 medi packs either for me or for whoever is around its just one of those things for if you do get hit you would regain health slmost instantly,
and now back on topic (it was partly to do with sniping :p )
Sniping is great!!! I am working on my other classes right now, but can't resist if some enemy sniper ticks me off to spawn as a sniper and take him out....repeatedly....sniping is so much fun! I love the M95 and pickin people from so far away they cant even find me!!
I use most guns equally, but I too prefer to stray away from the SVD, and the Type-88 sniper rifles. Although they're automatic and great in a quick shot pinch; they're horribly inaccurate. Worse than the M95. They also require three shots to kill; which means they're bad versions of the PKM that you can fire standing up.
My favorite guns right now are the L9A61, and the M24. Both are godsends at plucking that running target from 300 meters away. They're the reason people whine about me; For me, and my 'quick shot' tendencies, I can win sniper battles 99% of the time, and I can even beat automatic weapons from medium range 90% of the time. Hell in CQC; if I don't zoom in, I can kill somebody with an automatic weapon just by firing blindly at their chest, and pulling out a pistol to pluck the remainder of their health off.
The M95 I find is also a wonderful weapon; although at longer distances it is a rather pathetic gun. It's as inaccurate as the SVD and the Type-88; so long range headshots are difficult, and moving targets are a no-no completely.
I do however find that the M95 is much better for those pinch situations where you're against an automatic weapon from medium range. For somebody like me with a crack shot; it's far superior to the SVD/Type-88 in these situations, since it does so much damage anyways (You 1 shot people who've taken even 1 bar of damage prior to you shooting them, the M24/L9 requires 2 bars for that; this is why I think the m95 is 96-97 damage instead of 95), and it doesn't bounce around when you fire it.
Anyhow, I find that snipers who are prone in a single spot are nothing more than easy targets. In fact, they're probably 60% of my kills as a sniper. Even the ones who play it smart; and take 95% cover, will eventually fall victim to my pop up - 'quick aim' - 'quick shot' - bunny hop to the side - prone tactics. Unlike them; I don't give a flying poop about accuracy. It's all about the K/D for me. I will also be the squad leader, and I will always lead my squad to the nearest flags. Often I will even be the first one there at the flag if my squad is unwilling to use me properly as an easy access spawn point.
i wish you could use those silenced fully auto-matic snipers lol
hmm i wouldnt go that far, they would proberly have the same damage/accuracy of an SVD etc,
a bolt action silenced would be better, but then thats what you have a silenced pistol for, i find myself using it alot when im out of sniper rounds and the commander refuses to drop me a supply crate, then i become commando sniper running to the nearest supply crate on the ground in the open, re-arming and getting back to my perch not dieing once ah bliss
I think that you had never used SVD in a propper way!
10bullets-10kills. Have you tried this?
Sniper kit is my favourite and i use all the sniper rifles in game. When i play MEC use SVD only, when US-L96A1 on infantry maps. If there are choppers - switch to M-95. It is not true that is easier to use SVD than bolt action rifles. Just because SVD is less accurate you should learn to use it. It is not a aim and shoot gun like us snipers.
Someone above said that semi-autos are for nood snipers! hah - funny man. Learn to use them and we will speak again on this. Often i have 60+ kills on sharqi with SVD. I don't say i am the best sniper around, just have some expirience with it, and think i learned how to use these rifles ingame.
I am the sniper in my clan, and in maps that required good sniper like Sharki, i help my mates with killin enemies, defending alone a CP. There is not better thing from helping a mate against an enemy. Many times i see from my scope how my mates fughts on close range against an enemy soldier, and i see how the finished ammo, switch to pistol, switch to knife and i kill the guy who is trying to kill them. The next thing i heard in my headphones is "Thank you m8!"- this is the pleasure of playin sniper!

So which one is it? Btw the SVD and the Type88 are both semi-automatic.
You are confusing Recoil and Accuracy here. Because both the SVD/Type88 and the M95 have the same Accuracy (source: BF2 Weapons Chart (Update: 09/04/2006) - [DUCKS]Black_Duck_1). However the recoil on the semi's is worse (min & max) compared to the M95.
Long range headshots maybe impossible (cannt say for sure), but I do know I had sniper battles with a Norwegian sniper over distances of 400 meter. He allways used the Type88, because it was more or less his trademark at the time. He could get hits on anybody over that distance even when they were on the move. But it is very rare to see somebody with that degree of proficiency in the game using a semi.

They both do the same amount of damage as the PKM at a faster ROF.

You would be the first person in the history of this game being able to kill people unscoped over a distance of 150 meters or more (short range 0 -149 , medium range 150 - 299 , long range 300 - 449 and extreme long range 450 - 600)
From my own personal experience I can say that hitting running targets is very hard to do. Over a distance of 300 meters you have to be very proficient at handling the weapon. I know some of the best shots in this game and even they rarely take shots at running targets, but rather wait for their stamina to run out. If you have played the game long enough you can allmost estimate with 100% precision when this will happen.
