Actually there is also a slight difference in the ability of missiles fired air-to-air against the J10 and those fired from ground AA against the J10.
My experience has determined that it is slightly easier to get a missile hit on the J10 with a ground-fired AA than it is from an air-to-air missile, even if fired from another J10. Most of the missile hits I encounter when flying the J10 come from ground AA, many times regardless of the aerial manuever, and usually if (as MetallicaGuitarist stated) the gunner has let the J10 get a little range on it when the missile is fired. The missile seems to lock a bit better when fired at range and follow the J10 through the aerial manuever rather than just run up the side of the fuselage.
However, the F-18 appears to have same uncanny "coding" of allowing missiles to just slide up the side of the fuselage as does the J10. Although the F-18 is the only USMC plane that even has a chance of survival against the J10, the J10's is much more agile and maintains a greater speed during maneuvers.
The J10's extreme nimbleness does have one drawback that can be taken advantage of by the F35 and F18.....The J10 is very susceptible to being thrown into a slide, particularly if in a climbing turn and opposite rudder is applied. If at high altitude or with the nose pointed up in a climb during such a turn, the slide very quickly will throw the J10 above the ceiling and because the J10 reduces throttle so slowly, it is very susceptible to simply sliding on the glass ceiling off the map and dying before control can be retained.
Many F35 pilots have discovered that the F35 will maintain controllability at a higher altitude than the J10 and use that advantage to escape high and try to get the J10 to hit the glass-ceiling.
