I think it's mainly because we are all playing BF2 partly for fun, but also partly to put some serious smack down on other people.

Lets see who's got the bigger E-Penis now.

And this forum is, unfortunately an extension of that.

I also used to mod some other PC game forums, one being the Counter Strike forum, but I hardly ever ventured out of the Ideas and Suggestions forum, mainly because people there were there to help. The other general forums also had loads of E-penis comparisons going on.

I think BF2 is even worse because people actually believe the fac they have a "rank" in the BF2 stats gives them more voice.

It wasnt aimed at anyone at all actually, and i do indeed agree that your posts are interesting and i pay attention - except for the one where you posted a link recently, i didnt agree with you doing that. besides that, yeh, not aimed at anyone, unless someone actually fills that description!

imo heated arguments are very entertaining to read (it is probably my immature highschool mentality).

however you are absolutely right it is a game and nothing more. i really dont know why people feel compelled to vent over a public forum. i post when i think my opinion/take will do some good or when i need advice.

if you go to the OT (off topic) section you will see that things are much friendlier there and most of the controversial threads and/or posts do provoke some type of thought or opinion worth sharing. i suggest you check it out.

I actually enjoy reading these "heated debates". So much suspense, wondering who will be the one that starts calling names.

These problems exists in almost all large populated forums. Don't you know that this world isn't made only of nice, happy people? People aren't born with kindness.

Heated discussions are one thing, i doubt the OP even has a problem with that. But yeh, the flaming that goes on willy-nilly.... thats a bit hows-ya-father..

Sassback mentions the OT forum, that is a nicer one, but you still gete all sorts of conflict - I do recall a bloke in there who wanted to kill his mother and whatnot because she asked him to do some housework, he refused, and she pulled the plug on his computer Perfect example of like i said before, kids wanting to vent and feel all tough and macho.

In an anti IO thread I participated in several posters (12?) made all sorts of accusations about me. When I posted game score sheets they either didn't bother replying, or replied with more abuse in a different direction.

These posters have no credibility, and now I know who they are I just ignore their crap.

The written word used to be the only means of conveying messages. As an example f you have to put a smiley on then you haven't conveyed yourself properly. There was a time when jokes got recognised as such without smileys.

Part of it is boredom. There are very few new things to discuss about a game well over a year old. New bugs, maybe some tactics (that mr. e_penis already knew since before the beta demo came out), little tricks and whatnot. After that, it's fighting or complaining time. Same reason griefing normally happens in games: short attention spans, boredom.
