^ I'm sure that does cause some friction. When one person dedicates his waking hours to a game and another doesn't, the conflicting values can cause arguments.

I'm going with grandmas theory. Each generation has less respect for themselves and others than the one that went before them.

What we see here is forum members growing up and recognising that fact. People are simply ruder and less considerate than they used to be, and the anonimity of modern messaging like forums makes it even easier.

My thoughts:

It is "human nature" for ppl to think that they have more "insight" in areas where they have more experience, seniority, or accomplishment than most other ppl, & while it is not always true, often enough it is

A lot of ppl display what would appear to be "a lack of home training" (but I know they were taught better) as they seem to feel the need to say what ever "pops into their head first" about how they feel about other ppl w/ out provocation" (a serious lack of adult self control)

I am guilty of over reacting to insults, for 1, @ 6'0'' 260# I don't experience a lot of verbal abuse IRL

It is more acceptable in some "societies", or genders to get "personal" in a debate they are losing

A lot of ppl are angry because, "they got pwned" in game

Come to think of it, I would be "hard pressed" to think of a game, past time, or hobby where the "casual enthuisiasts" are more condesending of their more "serious dedicated" counterparts (except for drug addicts, or alcoholics)

I have also seen bigger "knock down, drag outs" in "AMD vs. Intel" threads, & nVidia vs. ATI threads are always entertaining

A "classic" never ending arguement is 9mm vs. .45acp, film vs. digital is another arguemant that can get as bad as politics, or religion
