Getting kicked from a server for saying things that one hears in a PG movie isn't what bothers me about server rules.

What bothers me is when you say things like "commander assets" and you get kicked because the genius server owner put "A$$*" in the text filter box. Not warned, mind you. Kicked. First time. That's fun.

Consequently, even though I don't like swearing in-game, I prefer those servers without language filters. Society is so awash in profanity these days, especially among people in their teens and 20s, that it's awfully hard to imagine living and interacting with young people for any length of time without running into so much of it, that if one were truly offended by every instance, there would be little time left to feel anything but offended all day long.

Life is too short for that. So I ignore it. Like the Head On ads. You have to learn to have your own internal language filter.

And threatening to punch someone's lights out if they swear in front of your kids certainly sounds noble, but I don't think that the aggravated assault charge would really be worth it.

I dislike the fact that a lot of the time there are strict rules in place concerning swearing in an M+15 game (Australia), but more important issues (Griefing, TK'ing, general idiocy, etc) go completely unpunished. Go figure.

First off, it's not like I'm flying off the handle every time I play this (or any other) game. Actually, I hardly swear at all when playing this game. You're right, if I was in a public place with children around I definitely would not be cursing up a storm. But you and the other clown who brought up his pathetic analogy are in denial. I'm simply defending a players RIGHT to swear after getting blown away in a game where ALL YOU DO is kill other players. On the other hand, if you want to kick/ban peeps from your server for doing so, that's your prerogative. But quit telling me your kids are playing this game and you're trying to shield them from some friggin curse words. OPEN YOUR F***IN eyes and realize the world is not Candyland, if you want some clean wholesome fun, go play The Sims. I guarantee you that if your kid is old enough to play this game, he's heard the F-bomb many times already. Again, deny it all you want, I could care less.

Please, buddy, when an impressionable child plays a video game, which game are they going to be more afraid or shocked from because of the similarities to real life, Mario or Battlefield? There's no comparison.

I don't even know what to say. Besides this point being the dumbest argument I've read yet about this swearing discussion, this not being the first, you're laws don't apply to a game played by people all over the world and especially not to me since I'm not from your country.

Although it's comes down to server rule, it's fine by me. After all, it's a war game meant for people age 16+, it's bound to happen and I dare you to find any teenager that dosen't swear even a little in this day and age.

To swear on the typing system is a waste of time I think, but on voip it's just a "whatever" type of thing; some do it some don't, I myself will let off some steam that way when I get killed in some unfair/ridiculous manner.

Again, swearing shows immaturity.

As for that, I don't think swearing shows immaturity, I believe it's just another way of verbally showing ones discontent towards a situation, after all, they're just words.

I simply can't stand the rules because I'm 22 and it's an absolute insult. This isn't a high school classroom, most BF2 players are probably old enough to rent Scarface, so why do server admins act like they have some sort of responsibility to enforce the ESRB rating?

I used to play Jazz Jackrabbit 2 online, and people cared about swearing LESS there.

I swear, very much so. Once I get going its hard to stop, however no one in any of the games I have played will ever know just how much I hate their circling helicopter :P

I just shout and roar to my room when I'm alone, and when not I curse and mumble under my breath, save if I just spawned into that b**** f******* artillery/chopper/tank once again. Hehe.

I don't mind others swearing, but then the owner of the server sets the rules.

it's a game, meaning kids will play, even though they aren't supposed to, so of course you'll have immature ****s getting their panties in a twist over you merely saying "gay".

I personally do not allow flaming or excessive screaming/swearing on my servers because it just slows game play down for two or 3 children to argue over whos internet ego is bigger. I do however allow swearing and such as long as it's kept mature, if you know what I mean.

this is true, seems every server nearly everyone has some form of slur to sling out because they're either losing or winning or just trying to start a flame war. It's very immature let alone ignorant pure and simple.
