I say its up to the server, but they shouldnt abuse the censor warning, like wf, noob, etc. saying F,D,B, etc they might care about.

No cursing on our servers either. We warn and then kick if it happens again. Ban comes if you keep it up. Sorry...our server....our discretion. Unfortunaltely....sometimes....a clan mate may get a little verbal. In this instance....he's sent to the corner for time out!

One thing I never understood, is why you would have a ****ing swear filter on a war game... and on top of that, it is 16+ or something like that... so...

It's not like it's something no one ever hears.

I hear a lot of server owners saying that if someone swears on your server, YOU will kick them but that is rarely true. You have an automatic censor that kicks people for saying things like ASSET or COCKPIT while letting things go like FVCK or SH!T.

If you have a human being that can make reasonable decisions then censoring a server is fine. However, if you are have a computer program do the work you need to be careful about who you kick and who you do not kick.

Many adults do not care to hear it. Many see it as not having the vocabulary to express ones emotions properly.

Now myself I'll drop the f bomb in a heart beat until I get warned. LOL

I pretty much know the atmosphere of the squad I play with so its no problem until someone new joins and you just get the feel of their play. I rarely type messages so that is not a concern.

I never swear in the chat window or VOIP, only on TS with my clanmates. I should cut down on that too.

There is no need to swear in the chat window, you don't know who you are playing with and you are probably offending someone.

ahhh the true you seeping out....you won't swear on our server, and I guarantee you wouldn't swear very long in front of my kids in a public place.

                      Re: Swearing In Battlefield

i wasnt saying that its up to me whether servers should let people swear or not, and i meant in noth respects (VOIP and Chat) incidentally.

i kust find it bizarre that a game that has an age limit, not that an age restriction matters these days at all, has such strict guidlines set out by some clan sites for swearing in a game as one message earlier said, ON A WAR GAME.

surely if people are worried that children will read and hear swear words, perhaps they should be turning their attentions to the fact that the previously mentioned children are playing a game which has one major plot...killing people.

i fully respect servers and their owners, and as it may of sounded, not on a crusade against clans that censor, i just wanted to know what peoples opinions were.

personally, if i owned a server i would use discretion and if someone said something, with clear intent to cause friction with another play then yes, warning, perhaps kicking is required.

A war game does not give you the right to FORCE vulgar language on a whole server full of people that may or may not want to read or hear it.

Chess is a WAR GAME, do you yell out expletives during a CHESS game???

So by your standards, a game that allows for custom tagging, like CS:Source:, the owners of said server should not only allow cussing, but pornographic tags as well. Did you know that some swearing is considered pornography, especially when it describes in detail about where to stick what? Did you also know that it is against the law to expose anyone under the age of eighteen to any form of pornography including photographic, motion picture, written, verbal or live mediums.

Also, most states (within the United States) have anti-swearing laws on the books and people are still convicted of volating these laws:

In a case in 1999 a man, from Michigan, was convicted of violating a law against cursing in front of women and children when he fell out of a canoe. He was fined $75.00 and ordered to perform four days of community service.

In Harker Heights, Texas, it is against the law to disrupt a church service by swearing... anyone rememebr the ill-fated Christian server thread.

In Columbus, Georgia it is against the law to cuss over a telephone line... DSL, Cable and the proliferation of VOIP phone systems can be included in this law as they are used for phone systems.

The state of Mississippi can fine a person $100 or imprison them in the county jail for thirty days for the use of profanity.

In West Virginia a person may be fined one dollar for each offense of profanity.

These are just a few of the anti-profanity laws out there. And they apply to all who visit or pass through the region. If you aren't mature enough to express yourself without cursing or actually get angry enough to feel justified to drop an F-bomb or two or three, maybe you should reconsider taking an anger management course.

In the end, people are simply getting mad at a bunch of ones and zeros and that makes those people the biggest zeros of the bunch.
