Like what Guitarist said. You usually only have time for two before you stratoclimb and if you do it just right you will just start to lose it at the top of the second immelman but not say about 850. Keep at 750 or as high as possible and hit burner, wait as long as possible with the flares.

At this altutude you are way faster than a J-10 at full afterburner and even both of you without burners the F-35 will pull away just watch when you use all your afterburners as the J-10 has another half second of it. You can pull away even faster from a Mig and as far as I'm concerned the F-35 is much better than the Mig in almost every way other than low altitude top speed. On top of the altitude advantage the F-35 has the fastest roll rate which more than makes up for it's turning radius in the right hands..

Essentially an F-35 can change direction faster than both the Mig and the J-10 as long as you don't try a long banking turn at 300ft you can escape.

Golden rule, altitude is your friend, keep in bomb mode so you can get the tighter turning fighters by surprise and set your tophat key to rear look and the cinema view so you're not the one who gets bounced.

I am laughing my A@@ of at all these comments
My GOD, if you have no friggin clue about what you are talking about
then STFU - who do you think you are trying to help?????
            how absurd !!!!

now before anyone flames me for being 'conceited'
I am not yelling that "I" know it all, but that it really angers me, when players shoot their mouth off and are so wrong

anyway - before I answer the original post questions
            a few definitions

loop = flying level - pull back on stick - NO roll - aircraft climbs up, over and down and returns to same starting point flying in same direction

Immelmann = do the same thing as a loop - BUT -when you reach the top
(ie highest altitude, and you are exactly upside down - and facing the opposite direction from where you started - you then STOP pulling back on the stick and do a full aileron roll (means full side deflection of the stick)
            until you are upright -
result = you are now facing the opposite direction from your start point and are at a higher altitude

Split S = opposite of Immelmann - FIRST - do a 1/2 aileron roll = full side deflection of stick (NOT PULL BACK) until upside down, then stop rolling and now pull stick back , doing the 2nd half of a loop, until you are facing the opposite direction from where you started

now = to the the clown that said he can split s all day and get away from anyone - well - MAYBE once - never twice
            why?????
anyone that is PREDICABLE - will get nailed every time

            back to original post
the ONLY way to get away is to be unpredictable and to move OUT of the line of site of the attacker

you do this with HARD displacement in 2 axis/plane - not just 1
(a split S is in one plane)

do NOT just do repeated rolls - they are worthless
do 1/3 roll, then pull. then 1/2 roll other way, then pull, etc

sometimes ( I never do ) cut throttle
if you are lucky, the attacker will fly past

            best advice - duh -
do not let them get behind you !!!!
do NOT fly level - learn to look behind you

            ps
my in game stats are not that great as Aviator
had MANY real life skills to over come
(ie was real fighter pilot and adversary instructor and jet instructor)
but now avg 15 to 20 AA kills per game and 1-3 death
( I try to never bomb as the fighter - but I do gun the stinger pads)

            PPS
there are several illustrations somewhere for these maneuvers

              Re: Aviator Evasion Maneuvers

Alright, ive read through Xennore huge aviator guide multiple times and he basically says that a split-s will get you away from any plane. I find that any plane vs j10 is pretty much impossible to get away from no matter what random **** I do. Are there any manuevers people know that actually work because unless im in a j10 a split-s just puts me up too high in a f35 and I spin out of control.
The best thing to do first, assuming you haven't already, is to get in the habit of using the Front Chase & Flyby views often enough so you can tell if someone is trying to engage you. If you dont realize a decent pilot is trying to attack you until they're right on your tail, there isn't much you can do to survive unless they're in an F35 or F15.

If you spot the guy before he's in position behind you, all you really need to do is watch him in flyby or front chase cam and react to his moves, always turn into your opponent. If your flyin high, a split-s is a good way to start, but that alone isn't gonna do squat for ya. You need to try to get your opponent to turn wide enough so he loses sight of you long enough for you to escape.

I've made a few videos of first person dogfighting to help a friend of mine understand how to use the f11 & f12 views. I can also fraps some of the f35 vs j10 dogfights from Sunday's cal match for you as well so you can see what worked and what didn't for the F35's. If your interested I can PM you the links to the videos.

                  Re: Aviator Evasion Maneuvers

For evasion you have to understand how to break lock. It isnt a cookie cutter technique. You have to go to the place that is farthest away from your opponent. The higher you are, the more options you have. So that is the first priority: gaining altitude. Altitude gives you speed, speed gives you options. Now you can decide which direction you can fly in. Play in rear view during a dogfight, so you can see behind you.

Now if your opponent is going up and to the left sort of, the best thing for you to do is go down and to the right. That is where the split s comes in. A split s consists of a half roll followed by pulling WAY back on the stick. Then do a immelman at the end of the first split s and go back up. Do a pulsed afterburner on the way down and a full afterburner on the way up. Repeat over and over and over and over until you get flares back. Then head way up, flare to avoid the missles and go back into the move again.

Another thing you should learn is proper flare usage. Dont flare as soon as you hear a clear lock. You have to turn in the direction of the missles and flare outwards. It works. They generally fire three missles and I can usually flare off all three of them.

Then I will go into the split s technique. Once they have achieved even a second of lock they will fire and if you can break lock the instant after they fire, the missle will not track you. Do that and flare when you get them back. If you pull it off successfully, you will have made the opponent waste all 6 of his missles.

He will then either engage with cannons or go back to rearm. If he tries to engage with cannons, you are free to whatever you want to get him off your tail. If he goes to rearm then turn, get on his *** and blow the **** out of em.

However, the dogfight will rarely get to the stage where he has no missles and has to engage with cannons. Usually you will lose the idiot on your tail after the 2nd or 3rd split s.
now = to the the clown that said he can split s all day and get away from anyone - well - MAYBE once - never twice
                  why?????

Yeah, you will if its THAT cookie cutter! Just doing split s' wont help you. You have to get to that spot where the enemy jet has to travel the farthest. How? Opposing direction of the aircraft behind you. Up and Left = Down and Right. Thats how you are supposed to think about it, but in practice its really a split s.

I actually find that attempting to throw in fancy **** like aileron rolls and barrel rolls, and changing stuff up for the sake of not being predictable will allow the enemy oppurtunity to fire upon you. Honestly, while it may look really really cool, when you are flying away from an enemy, and you think you have lost him, GO STRAIGHT, so you wont leave trails.

And even if you can predict where I am going, you wont get lock on me.

                      Re: Aviator Evasion Maneuvers

The split-S is exactly how Metallica described, it's effective because the "trailing" aircraft is always playing catch up with your turns. Even if his turning radius is smaller he is still reacting to your turn. If it's pulled off correctly the "attacker" will end up in front and if hes good, start a split-S or another manuver of his own. Hence the term dogfight.

EDIT: The manuver that Metallica described is a Scissors move, not split-S....Got me abit confused.

My in game stats for fighting in an F-35 are good and isn't it a shame that real world physics do not apply and that our tactics are developed through a lot of dogfights using in game dynamics. Two immelmans do get you away from J-10s for the simple reason that all you are really doing is putting yourself in the only position you have an advantage over the J-10. High altitude high speed flight and the goal is to live long enough and save enough afterburner to get lost.

                          Re: Aviator Evasion Maneuvers

Against a J10 a split-s is practically only effective below a certain altitude depending on the terrain below. The advantage of a split-s is that a plane flying towards the ground picks up more speed and turns faster than upwards and the enemy is alway at least a second late in following your move. Knowing this you can try to lure the J10 to cut corners in following your split-s where it will gain so much speed in his turn that it can't avoid crashing into the ground. But a skilled J10 pilot knows this and will use his throttle wisely.

A barrel roll is a maneuver where the axis of the plane describes the outline of a barrel, performed by pulling the joystick in down left or down right position. A split-s maneuver is started with a simple half roll where the plane only moves around it's axis and the cockpit points towards the ground.

When a split-s is used upwards (immelmann) you will not only lose air speed but you also give the enemy a nice opportunity to use his gun on you. Most of the time a deadly maneuver with a skilled J10 pilot behind you.

Other than the fact that the JSF is a COMPLETE missle magnet...

It > any other jet in the game pretty much... it's faster.. more agile.. best acceleration and top speed, low mass so it's good up high...

So many things.. but just the fact that it's turning radius is wide, and it's a missle magnet.. That just completely ruins all the pro's of the jet.
