That's a very unfair comment because as you say the "pro" flyboys. Key word - pro. So what if skilled players like me could dominate with jets? That's the difference between the handful of pilots near my level of skill and the IO mode nade spammers. When I get a 100+ score in a jet it means something but when an IO mode nade spammer manages 100+ score all it means is they sat behind the sandbags on Karkand and tossed nades with fear of being cut down by vehicles or artillery or that they sat back and revived all of the people dying to the enemy grenades. A trained monkey could do that.

I never denied that S2A lacked (I encouraged DICe many a time to make the S2A more deadily but require more skill) but I felt that A2A was perfectly fine.

So again - a tiny percentage (0.01%) of pilots racking up huge scores because of skill versus a very large percentage of IO mode players racking up huge scores because of game mechanic exploitation. No contest.

        Re: Infantry only, and grenades..

I don't understand why the hell... they made all these changes to the missle system, and the J-10's cannon..

Yet... over a 4 month period.. they couldn't figure out how to even out the JSF/J-10 even a LITTLE..

FFS.. all I want is like 5 seconds more afterburner or something.. they don't even need to change the missles.

Also why did they make A2A 75% damage?....

And btw, there aren't that many people who get high scores EVERY game in the jet...

For most people, they can only manage to get ~20-30 kills, and that is in the J-10.

I don't care what you all say... even baseraping, it is HARD to get a ton of kills with jets. I haven't gone above 70 kills for a while.

Actually most people who manage to stumble in to an aircraft get around 1 or 2 kills before they crash in to a tree. Decent pilots manage maybe 30 kills at the most. Sad considering I'm getting 30 kills a round every round as infantry (and 80+ points when you factor in caps, assists, revives heals).

People based the whole airplane nerf arguement on the fact that me and maybe 2 or 3 other pilots in the entire Battlefield 2 game could consistently get ridiculously high scores in the aircraft. That's actually what brought me to these and other forums because I'd constantly hear people bitching about how I was cheating/hacking and people would mention it to me ingame (often times in a ban message). The 1.4 patch rolls around and I still get ridiculous high scores in aircraft, helicopters, tanks, APCs or as a medic (especially as a medic). What has changed? Nothing. They just managed to dumb down the aircraft and reduce the impact skill has in a dogfighting scenario. They would've been better off balance wise if they hadn't bothered patching at all.

How does this relate to IO mode? It doesn't. Actually I take that back - the aircraft changes that DICE implemented highlights how completely clueless DICE is about the game balance. Do they even play this game?! IO mode is right along that same line of thinking where they use a chainsaw instead of a scapel. I don't think I can blame DICE Sweden though because they are the talent behind the creation of the original Battlefield series that I love and I really think they need to take the hammer to DICE Canada and get some real talent in that division of DICE.

when i stumble into the planes, i dont run into trees. depending on the map and how much my team sux, i usually get top 5 all the time. also with a good co pilot u can get lots of kills in the bomber as well. the mcninja clan owns in the air.

Woohoo, I'm decent. I can go 30-3 in the F18 (i think it is) on Fushe Pass.

Sorry, I think you misinterpreted the point I was trying to put across. My post wasn't in any way trying validate what's happening in IO mode and compare it to skilled vehicle players in vBF2. All I was saying was that the nature of jets coupled with the relative inability to do anything about them from the ground was partly to blame for the massive clamour to get some form of IO mode on the go. Essentially, many players were simply fed up of being raped by jets. One only had to look at the counters to the vehicles to know there's something wrong -

Jets - jet or mobile AA
Helo - jet, helo, mobile AA, static AA, AT, anything with a .50 cal.
Armour - TOW, AT, armour, spec ops, jet, helo
                  ...
                  Infantry - anything

In real life, yes, this makes sense. In a game, it doesn't.

Again, I'm not really trying to justify IO mode. I know it's a blatant and now legalised (official) score fest, but in my experience grenade spamming is just one part of it; bad part I agree. Ideally, I'd like DICE to reduce the number of grenades each kit has to start with and on top of that limit the ability of support to resupply them so easily.

I would say that your % of pilots wracking up huge scores is massively underestimated. I tend to find that pilots are usually in the top three on the scoreboard at the end, even if they are playing with comparatively skilled infantry players. Remember, good pilots have good computers to ensure that they load the fastest to get the jets, therefore lessening the likelihood of some nublet like myself getting into a jet. Although saying that, I still have a 2.5 K: D ratio in a jet and I'm a duff keyboard/mouse pilot. Operation Cleansweep, Dalian Plant, Oman, Wake are all inundated with pilots scooping up gold and silver medals with relative ease. Maybe only Dragon Valley and Fushe Pass with their larger, hillier landscapes offer comparatively skilled groundpounders equally good chances at top spot.

I really like IO mode, but my experience is limited to 16 player Unranked maps.
We go there to hone our skills agains other infantary and to improve team play.

The other maps I won´t even try, I just hated the 24/7 city maps with 64 player slots, due to the lack of team play and grenade spamming, now it seems is even worse.

I'm still very confused of how IO affected grenade spamming... I guess nobody EVER complained about nade spamming before IO. USMC on Karkand nade spammers are totally protected by their armor.

Solution to make alot more people happy:

                          'Vehicle-lite' ranked map option:
                          • Replace Tank/APC spawns with Heavy Jeeps
                          • Repalce AA vehicles with Light Jeeps
                          • Remove Jets
                          • Replace Littlebird and Attack Helicopters with Transport Helicopters

                          'Vehicle-neutered' ranked map option:
Same as above except that all transport vehicles have their gun mounts removed.

While you're at it add an option for 'Supply-line' mode (flags have to be taken/retaken in a certain order).

                            Re: Infantry only, and grenades..

I seriously cannot believe the number of people who insist on complaining about the new infantry only mode. Since the release of the 1.4 patch I have been thoroughly enjoying IO mode, and I dispute the idea that players who like this type of play are just point mongers. Some IO servers are filled with morons who refuse to work as a team and just spend their throwing grenades everywhere, but many servers (the ones that I prefer to play on) are populated by honest people who simply want to play a different style of game. Contrary to what others have said, I rarely see players score a ridiculously high number of points on the IO servers that are in my favorites list (I occasionally see very high scoring players in IO, but I also see this in regular mode when some idiot decides to camp a spawnpoint in a tank). Armor spawncamping is one of the major practices that I absolutely loathe in BF2, and IO mode nullifies this worry. I enjoy being able to concentrate on infantry maneuvers without having to worry about being happened upon by a tank or bombed by a jet (admittedly this is not a completely ‘realistic’ sort of combat, but the last time I checked BF2 was a GAME). The introduction of IO mode has not killed the number of populated non-IO servers available, and complaints making such claims are completely unfounded. The bottom line is; the new infantry only game mode is a fair alternative to the traditional BF2 conquest mode, and does not negatively affect those who choose not to play it in terms of stats or available servers… SO STOP COMPLAINING ALREADY!

I usually stay away from the jet spawns because they're such a hot commodity when the game begins and my time is better spent elsewhere rather than waiting in line for a jet, but the other day on OCS 64 I was just about to get the MiG when someone else hopped in instead. So I went up onto the big hill near the MEC Airfield and settled in to keep it defended. Every so often I'd hear the MiG taking off again with the same guy in it. Now I figure he was getting shot down because the F-18 is the better plane, but when I looked at his score and how he had -3 points, 1 kill, and 9 deaths and he had the MiG the whole round I almost died of shock. I know not everybody who hops in a jet is going to be a flying ace, but you'd think at some point he would have found a boat to shoot up or happen upon the lumbering F-15 for a few freebies. I never knew 'pilots' could be that bad, TBH. I'm not a good pilot by any means, but I'm a helluva lot better than that guy was. Twice I watched him plow into a radio tower while trying to rearm (hence his negative score). I actually found myself pitying the one guy he did manage to kill.

If it moves those point whoring idiots, kids with no brain and other retards to the same game mode and leave original for "normal" people, it just pure gold. I don't understand what is the point collecting points after all unlocks are available. You can't trade them and they don't do any good to your gameplay. Actually this is the best thing I've ever heard about BF2. Point collecting mod for the collectors and light war simulator for the players
