Re: Help Me Improve My Game!

Well, im startin to get some good scores, Ive averaged around 60 tonight on most rounds...with more kills than deaths.

And even got a bronze star, which is cool.

But, I have to say, thats mainly because im using the armour....

If your looking to become the same player you were in CSS, your sort of barking up the wrong tree. IMO.

People do attempt to play BF2 like a twitchy shooter but they end up going to pretty fair extents to gain an advantage. They'll use macros, or develope a very narrowly defined style to make them more successful in CQB (close quarter battle).

I simply think with the way the BF2 hit detection is, this is just a grand waste of time, considering all the other things there are to do that make you a better player or "Improve your game", as your opening thread states.

If you want to be improve your bf2 game, being good running from Hotel to Square and back again is about 5% of what this game has to offer. Be a good squad leader, be a good squad member, be a good commander, and most of all being a good sport, will put you far ahead of a lot of the people playing the game.

Don't stare at your stats after every game and disect them. They mean reletively little at this point in BF2, especially if you attempt to compare them to some one else's.

After becomming proficient at fighting against and fighting off the enemy with your small arms, work on capping spawns effectively. If your approaching a spawn you want to cap, and 3 enemy just left it and didn't see you....let them leave. Don't fire on them. Don't think points, points, points. Or K/D,K/D K/D. Think team, think win, think strategy. That's an improvment in my book.

Any horses *** can grab an assault weapon and hit the deck prone in a street fight for 20 minutes straight. After awhile you'll find with the hit detection the skill level evens out quite quickly.

Learn the back way to the suburb spawn, come out from behind the pool wall and back door capture that spawn.

Hell, be a good sniper or engineer.

At the begining of Karkand instead of spawning Hotel if you are MEC, defend the other side of the river by mining the water way, and bridge. That's an improvment.

Try and capture docks at DV first off by going overland and behind the chain link fence to the far left of the spawn as you look at it. Weasel in behind the tall silos and wait for the tank to spawn. Park it at the flag and hope the chopper heads don't check and see if the flag is going down the pole (which is the case most of the time). It's a great move, requires nothing other then being alert cautious, and sneaky. You don't need to fire a shot and you've just taken away half the valuable assets of the other team.

If you got bored with CSS, the same thing is going to happen if you play BF2 with the same mind set. It could happen even faster since there's really reletively no way to beome a "great" cqc player in BF2, it's simply not geared towards that style of play. That's why there's so many complaints from the twitchy crowd. Better hit detection this, or less randomness that. They never stopped to think that maybe the game was never intended to be played that way.

I think the better BF2 players check their ego's at the door. That's not to say that your initial reaction is egotisitcal, it's actually what most of us go through, or at least what I went through. You can take two different courses of action now. You can attempt to become the big time K/D and points guy in the heaviest fighting areas, or your can branch out and see what else BF2 has to offer. The choice is yours.

Personally my advice is to not join full servers with 64 players that only have city maps in their rotation. There are plenty who will let you believe that this is BF2 at it's pinnacle but only because it plays right into their style. This is hardly the case. There's so much more to do then worry about points,K/D ratios, or getting medals, badges and stars.

Re: Help Me Improve My Game!

I think I'm fair good in a squad, and i think I lead a squad well.

Its just killing the enemy in CQC that i struggle with.

Tried commander as well tonight for the first time!

I know its totally different to CSS, because with that I knew the best weapon choices for every map, knew the best spots on every map and had learnt to predict what 90% of people will do in most situations, so I used to get scores of 80-10 in a round. That was just practice...

Bf2 just seems that much harder, but I'll get there!

Exactly! - Play Bf2 not as another FPS, it has much more to offer then running around moving down people. It has the option to be very tactical extemely straight forward.

Also take some time out and create a local server and run have a good look at the maps and see where objects spawn and where the bases are and how you get access them from behind or from the least obvious direction.

Ehhh... the type of person who would use a macro is about as far removed from a "twitchy" shooter player as you can get.

Most of us would never automate our movement, it's too restricting.

The closest I ever got to a "realism" game was Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (which as about as far from realism as you can get).

Aside from that, I played mostly Quake 3 and painkiller and I play bf2 much in the same way I did those games.

The big difference is, in bf2, no matter how good your aim or reflexes are... you are going to miss a large percentage of the time because of the spread/recoil system.

                To the original poster:

When I first started playing one of the best things I did was to create my own server (set the respawn time to 1) and suicide over and over so I could memorize spawn points.

You will be surprised at how much this helps your infantry game.
