LOL. You noobs, its has NOTHING to do with wireless protocol, Mbps setting, WPA encryption, PPPoE/A, doesn't even have to do with pings (per say)

The problem you are having you described perfectly already with your own words:

Its not probably less.... its EXACTLY every 60 seconds. Go time it. You'll see that exactly every 60seconds your connection pauses... Not just in BF2, also in html downloads, p2p, ftp, whatever. Exactly every 60 seconds your connection will stop, then resume again.

So... want to know how to fix it ? Well.... Since I am the only person I've ever seen thats posted anything about this I'll just assume very few other people have figured it out. Apparently even the wireless companies don't know since its STILL a problem.

Oh right, I was telling you how to fix it. I almost think I've posted this before here but anyway.

You changed wireless adapters but I bet 10:1 you are not running the configuration/connection tool that came with the new adapter. And if you are running it, doesn't matter b/c you are letting Windows control you'r wireless settings.

Goto Run, type services.msc, scroll down to the bottom and find Wireless Zero Configuration service. Right click and STOP it. Now go play BF2. You won't have any lag (except for whats on your conenction and how ever much wireless adds (~5ms I've found on my setup))

The reason this happens is that MS in there infinite stupidity does something every 1 minute that stops almost all usb wifi drivers from working, they timeout and restart. There are only 4 or 5 wifi chipset makers and thus this problem effects almost ALL usb wireless adapters.

In my expereince I've found I has a strong distaste for the way linksys handels wireless so what I do is let WZC handle connecting then I have a .bat file that runs at start up to stop that service. Works for me, but its a pita when its drops the connection b/c I need to go start the service wait for it to connect then stop it again. I'll selling that pc soon anyway. Next one will be PCI wireless.

Anyway, stop WZC in services.msc and try that.

adapters are the hardware you add to your pc to connect to a network, for instance a wireless card to connect to a wireless network, or an ethernet card to plug in to a modem.
Mcbeef I thought you'd resolved your problem, you still play with wireless?

Yes, wireless works just fine for online gaming. This is the exact problem i was having, then i was thinking of going to ethernet cable, but i wasnt too keen on the idea of running a 30 m ethernet cable through my house. What you need to do is configure your connection, do exactly what este says in the page before, he's a good man. You need to configure your adapter so that it's running through itself so its not running through windows ( i think i said that right?) Anyway, he can explain it better. It worked very well for me, i get minimal lag like hardly ever, i get no connection errors or any hassle.

If that doesn't work dont loose hope, theres like a million things causing this, and for most problems there is a solution. So yeahhhh dawg, and for the people who are saying wireless isnt for online gaming - LOL pwn3d

Yes just curiosity, i resolved it. I just like to learn more. What i don't understand about my problem is why windows configuration zero ( the adapter that connected me to the net) has to pause stuff every 60 seconds, este is right. Why does it do this? It's just stupid.

Also in regards to that comment about disabling it. Nothing happens, i have mine disabled and everything seems to be fine! Cheers guys.

PS Are the bf 2 expansion packs worth buying?

The WZC problem is very well known actually (and was back in 2006). Also, disabling 802.11x authentication will solve more problems.

I hate wireless, because when I had it it caused lag, disconnected regularly and it's slower than ethernet. Off topic: when I used u-torrent with wireless, not only did it disconnect me, I couldn't repair the connection unless I rebooted my pc! my girlfriend had the same problem.
Mcbeef: it's really worth the hassle fitting a 30m ethernet cable in your house. Once you go ethernet, you never go back.
The only redeeming feature is that my friends can bring their laptops to my house and connect to my wireless network, so I leave the wireless signal on.

Hm, i have been thinking more on the subject now that i play around 10 online games, still, its too much of a hassle and since the games are working fine i won't be trying it yet. Maybe in the holdidays when i can be bothered. We also have an amplifier so whilst on the router my internet won't get divided and crap.

What other games do you guys play?

I'm probably going to buy half life 2 deathmatch and day of defeat source, are these any good?

Just get the damn cable, it takes all of 30 minutes to set up and it's bliss from then on.

Wireless is fine for online gaming as other things, just make sure you are close to the router & there is nothing that can interfere with the connection ie microwaves & radios.

I have wireless internet and i really dont have a problem with gaming at all

Uk servers are between 20-70ms and US servers 100-170

wireless is different because it pauses between sending imformation like instead of sending 30 packets every 0.1 second it sends 90 every 0.3 second but its really not noticable at all, and people tend to freak out at wireless when theres really not a problem

I totally agree, and i just cant have a 30 m cable going through my house when we have a maltese ****su that is a psycho, it would literally eat the cable.
