Man, I have the same hardware and don't have a problem. Hmm. Hopefully I won't.

I ordered a new power supply... My damn voltage meter doesn't seem to be working and I heard Asus's Probe isn't always accurate. Cheaper than most PC hardware plus my Thermaltake 430W is only putting out 18amps on the 12volt and the new one will be putting out 28 I'll keep you guys posted if I still need more help, thanks again everyone.

I'm having the same problem. It just started within the last couple of days.

I'll be playing along no problems at anywhere from 50-80 fps and wham it will drop to 10-15 fps. It stays there and then jumps back up to normal, then drops again. Sometimes this happens a lot, other times it never happens. It occurs in SF and vanilla.

I'd really like to know what solves the problem for you b/c my specs should be running this game much better than they currently are.

I'd like to add: "double rubbish" to this statement.

I've gone back and forth many times between cards without a reformat...in fact I am still on my original OS install from over a year ago.

As long as you clean the drivers, there is no need for a reformat. Reformats are for people who have comepletely screwed their systems up with viri, or installing a new CPU.

Alright well I got my PSU yesterday and installed that puppy with relatively high hopes, but of course not too high. After it was installed I fired up BF2 and watched my frame rates suck nuts and I realized that I have an extra PSU now, and a MB and CPU shy of an extra computer. So upset as I was I started to mess around with my Bios a little and selected my PCI Express MHZ option which was set at 100mhz stock, I turned it up 20mhz and it seemed to help a little bit. So i turned it up another 20 and it may have helped a wee bit but nothing substantial... out of curiosity what do most people have that option set to? I'm def stumped and ready to buy a new MB but would really enjoy not having to... Anyone have anymore ideas? Thanks for all the posts everyone.

                  lil help...

Its the patch, man. Plain and simple, stop with the mobo upgrade. If other games play as usual but BF2 sucks, its just Bf2.

I wouldn't mess with the Pci-e speed, you may fry your card. Overclock using coolbits.

I can't speak for the OP, but I'm having the same problem (I think) and it's not the patch. I've been playing the 1.3 patch since it came out and have been fine. Last week or so I've been getting this sudden drop in FPS like he describes. I've always played the game with everything maxed out. I am using the Beta 91.33 drivers (this was not changed recently either). I checked my graphics temp and it was way below the warning threshold so I don't have any ideas.

try placing your ram in slots 1 and 3 (some boards are screwed up like this). change your ram from 2t to 1t in bios. If your pagefile, bf2, and windows are on the same drive, partition and put pagefile on it or better yet a seperate hdd. run prime95 for a couple hours see if your cpu is "prime stable"

"Its not just BF2"? What a helpful post.

I will not change my hardware config because I had the exact same setup and when the game ran at 70-90fps.

What you guys need to try, is joining a server on the original release of BF2, and you'll see your FPS are about 2x as high as with the current patch.

VT Nerd, I visit tech at least once a month and bring my machine with me each time. Maybe we can try and troubleshoot this crap sometime.
