Really Low FPS W/New VideoCard

Alright well it all started about two weeks ago when I went to play BF2 and my frame rates went from 20-50 to 0-15. So I tried all the basics, restart, virus scan, spyware, de frag, clean up temp files and what not but nothing helped. So since I had an X800 pro I figured I would upgrade to a 7900 GT. Got the GT and nothing changed... So I did a mem test with my AMD 3700Sandiego @ 2.4 and got 116 errors. So I put it back to 2.2 and did a mem test and it was all good, no errors, tried bf2 but no relief. So I bought 2 gigs of OCZ Platinum hoping that was the answer, apparently it wasn't.
I tried Tomb Raider Legend which I got with the 7900 GT and it sucks too so I guess this isn't just a BF2 issue. I'm not sure what else to check I did all these scans in safe mode also but it didn't help. I tested the voltage on my 430W Thermaltake PSU and its fine. Tested my CPU and it appears just fine. Could my motherboard or my PCI-Express 16x slot be fried? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I woudl maybe try a system restore to when everyhting worked fine, maybe? Because you've seemed to have done everything else.

I reccomend formating your hdd. Since with thats system you shoould play bf all high with fps ver 50 at least.

My 7900GT is giving me trouble as well, but with BF2 only.

I recommend you match your refresh rate in game with your monitor, for some reason that helped me out alot.

So you went from an ATI card to a Nvidia card without formatting? Theres your problem.

My Motherboard is an AN8-E with the latest 1013 bios, I updated those already too. When I first started having this problem I formatted my HD and installed Windows XP Pro since I had Home. I still had my ATI card at the time but after getting my new card I uninstalled the drivers and used an ATI program to completey get rid of all the leftover files. I've also already defragged and updated every driver possible. Still stumped

Board burnt out when I plugged my Antec truepower 430 W PSU into it with a 20 to 24 pin adapter. If you get this, don't use an adapter it will break the board. ASUS tech support says not to use it. I quote "I recommend not using the adapter at all as it is not needed to function" from ASUS. Now I have to RMA it for dieing, even though it's designed for 24 pin operation.Detected my DDR400 RAM as DDR333 until I changed it in the BIOS Dum. quoted from some complainers check it out if it helps

"Fake Shake" if you find your problem def let me know, i'll do the same. Anyone have any other ideas before I buy a new motherboard which probably won't help the problem? I appreciate all the help so far

If you don't want to read the whole thing, in a nutshell, after trying everything short of replacing my whole computer, i finally tried a combination of things. I propped my laptop up and have a fan constantly blowing cool air to fans underneath as to rule out over heating. I then reinstalled, which didn't initially work, then i set all settings to low. Finally i got some good framerates. I then gradually increased them untill i got the highest settings and now it runs perfectly smooth. It's such a weird problem with such a weird solution, hopefully it helps you out too.

REFORMAT HARD DRIVE......

after several months of playing bf2, I developed lag issues. Reformatted and now its all good... occasionally I delete the bf2 folder and start over...

got to love the "press your E button to enter a vehicle" and so on....etc......

you may need more power, i had to replace my thermaltake psu because it wasnt giving a stable current on mu 6800GT it kept dropping below the minimum amps the card required. also if you have changed cards from ATI to Nvidia. you need to remove all your old drivers and clear the BF2 cache.

I've tested my PSU with Asus's Probe program and it didn't drop the voltage at all, but could the amps be dropping without me noticing? How do you clear the BF2 Cache, will deleting the whole game along with the My Documents BF2 folder do such?
I've already done the reformatting and really don't want to go about it again since it takes forever to install everything and update all the drivers, i'll probably buy a new MotherBoard before I do that again... which may be soon. I'll take a look at your thread Fake Shake hopefully I'll figure something out. Before I know it i'll have two computers I'll keep ya'll posted, I really appreciate all this help.
