My thoughts on some of you "top brass" players...

I often wonder how people get to some of these really high ranks such as 1st LT, Captain, Major, etc. I then decided to crunch a few numbers...

I couldn't help it... I scroll through some of these forums and notice that some of you have these "hour tracker" signatures saying how much time you've devoted to BF2 this week/month/year. I noticed that many of you at 2nd LT and higher play 35+ hrs/week. You do realize that pracitically qualifies as a full-time job, right? Now I see how anyone gets to a level like 1LT. Perhaps if I quit my job and just played BF2 from 7:30-4:30 (w/ a 1 hour lunch) I could possibly make it to a level like yours... Wow... Don't you have anything else to do? I mean really... Lets consider 2 scenarios...

1.) You're young and go to school from 7:30-2-ish... that leaves 2:30-11-ish (8.5hrs) on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday (12-15 hrs each). Thats a total of 60-70 free hours TOTAL per week. Assuming you have at least SOME homework (1 hr/day) and eat OCCASIONALLY (1.5 hrs/day) that leaves 42.5-52.5 free hours not eating/doing homework per 7 days. Dividing 35 by these numbers tells me that you devote between 66 and 82 percent of your free time playing BF2. DO YOU HAVE A LIFE??

2.) You are older and work for a living... You work a typical 9-hr shift w/ a 1-hr lunch. Lets just figure it's an 8-5 job. Assuming you don't work in a quickie before work, you can't really start playing until 5:30 at the earliest. Lets assume you go to bed by 12:30 am. That leaves 7 hrs/weekday and all day Sat and Sun. Thats a total of 60-70 total free hours. Lets assume that you eat and occasionally leave your house. For argument's sake, you eat 1.5 hrs/day and you spend at least 1 hour/day NOT playing BF2. That gives you the same scenario above...

    My point?

If you're spending between 66 and 82 percent of your total free time playing BF2, I'm not that far off when you are sickeningly good in-game and I tell you to get a life/girlfriend/hobby (other than BF2) and you yell at me and say, "I go to school" or "I work for a living". Yeah... and other than play BF2, thats ALL you do... For your own good, please... socialize a bit... diversify your life just a tad... there's more to life than BF2.

Not a sermon... just a thought

Did you know that if you played better you'd get more points? but obviously you suck and have a crappy SPM. You don't need to play +30 hours a week to get a high rank, the game's been OUT FOR OVER A YEAR. And you still don't know this, sigh.

I should maybe tell you to get a life for wasting it working out stupid stats like that.

You have no idea why people spend a lot of time so stop judging people.

Ok yes I have a high rank and yes I play a lot. Now how about my scenario.

        1. I work from 10am till about 5-6pm ( writting video games for a living ).
        2. I get home and have a bit to eat and then have a game until maybe 2-3am.
        3. Should I get a life and a girlfriend...ermmm I already have a misses and kids....should I spend time with them...well no you see monday to friday I live away doing my job while my other half runs her bussiness..

So you see. I have a life at weekends with my family but I have a choice during the week either play bf2 at night, watch boring tv or go out and get drunk every night...yarn got bored of that after i hit 30's.

So once again dont judge everyone because you have such a small imagination to why people could possibly play a game for so many hours.

haha... yeah I know that if i played better I'd have a lot more points... but honestly, I average 40-50 pts / round which isn't great but it's not awful. And btw, how would one get good enough to score 100 pts/round unless they practiced an awful lot. Also, I guarantee I won't hear a disagreement by anyone below 2nd LT... I'd put money on it.

I'm sure the hours per day or hours per month or whatever is just a measurement of total hours divided by the number of days/months the person has had an account. I'm sure most kids rack up tons of hours during school breaks.

And remember that kids don't have to make their meals for the most part. 1.5 hours to eat in a day is a lot more than I spend eating (not including prep). But that doesn't really matter.

Oh, and most use vehicles to rack up points.

I play 60+ Hours a week.....no girl, no job, no school...im 18 and Parents dont care, because my dad (papa_static) plays too...Eventually ill have to get something done, but for now im enjoying the free time, dont knock on somebody for playing alot, maybe we are doing it because we are simply enjoying ourselves. You cannot say these people don't have lives either... I still manage friends, and go to parties.... fact of the matter is with all this free time it is totally managable to play a ****load of BF2.

You can flame it or agree, but it wont sway me away from bf2 any time soon

                SPM of 1.38
                K/D of 1.18

Well below average. Let's say if you had an spm of 3.0 for example you'd be a 2nd LT by now.

hehe ok... so I wasn't wrong though... you play BF2 for 6-7 hours a day M-F (which is not quite full-time but close)... after SITTING ON A COMPUTER ALL DAY... you'd think your eyes would start bleeding...

Re: My thoughts on some of you "top brass" players...

                    This is what I do.
When I am not in School, on Off days: about 4-5 hours maybe.
When in School, About 5 hours tops; maybe less
On Summer Vatcation: About 9 hours. That would usually be from about
when I wake up (Like 8-9-10) I go swimming in mourning that's about an hour, so then I have the rest of the day to play BF2. From like about 1 in afternoon to about 12:40 AM or so.
So, I do put in my hours into BF2. But I don't just waste time on BF2. I read Novels, Watch Movie with Family, Surf the Net, and other things. I say don't waste ALL of your time on BF2. I also take brecks in-between map loading to take care of my kitten (She is so cute!). Nice Stats and working out the times for the people. Also Most of these high ranking guys have no lives and play BF2 for about 12 hours a day or even more. Which I think would drive me nuts

Well I'll concede to that, Gunner... perhaps if I was more of a Rambo-style player instead of a sniper, I'd have a higher SPM and therefore more points... in my case, however, I spend a great deal of my minutes scoping, spotting, recon, etc. I wasn't really even talking about that though... I was primarily talking about people who, regardless of their rank, play 40-ish hours a week... which I find just plain rediculous... will you at least concede to that, Gunner?

How many hours a week do you watch TV?

ok lets see, the average family will spend most evenings after eating in teh lounge watching TV. This will probably be from say 7pm until maybe 12pm that is 5hours a night. 5x7 = 35. SO thats lets say 35 hours a week....wow tell them to get lives also :)

See my point. I personally do not like TV because its full of propoganda so I sit at a computer instead.

Ok you mention about my eyes...well when im not sitting at my desk I will be on my sofa using a second computer on a 32 inch lcd tv now that is no different to watching tv...

I would also like to point out that playing in a clan we use team speak. There are about 20 of us and are all personal friends. Now we spend most of the time chatting etc and the game comes around that. So its not a case of just a sad case playing in front of a comp without communication with others.

Now im not trying to put you down here just pointing out that you should not judge before you know.

O and just a few stats from tracker for you how many hours a week I play.

and my total points are about 150,000...look how few hours I do actually play...maybe im just good and you suck

You also have to understand that its extremely fluctuating. According to X-Fire, my total playtime last 7 days has been ~22 hours. Thats... 3 hours per day roughly. My record is 53 hours during 2 weeks. Pattern was, those were holydays. Right now, its summer time. That means no school, and I personally am uneployed right now (college student, enjoying my free time). Weather here is SH!Thot, which gives me free time which I rather spend indoors, about 6 hours. Plus a game in late nights with my American fellas. Total, about 30 hours a week right now. This might seem a lot, but it really isnt. 4 something hours a day, when you dont have to do anything, isnt much at all.

Even if you DO work, do you honestly think someone goes out on Tuesdays? Especially when they have a family? Its either TV, some odd personal hobby or a good fragtime. Face it, computer gaming is a past time activity, and because its a damn interesting one, its popular.

Ive got a lot of past time activities, but they all depend on time and day. Airsoft is only a Sunday deal, I work out ever 2-3 days, Fridays are for drinking, and in the same time I only require 5 hours a sleep per day MAX. Im healthy, girls like me , and all that with 20-30 hours a playtime a week. As for rank in BF2, Ive been playing with pauses and breaks since June 2005, and Im still only 1st Seargeant...
