ET:QW looks 10x better than bf2 and because they have spent 3 years developing it, the system requirements are about the same of that of bf2/slightly higher

Its how company's like EA work and its one of the main reasons I am now avoiding there games, not that its going to be hard there are plenty of much better titles in the works. Two examples are GPG's Supreme Commander which will be far superior than EA's C&C3 which will be coming out (nothing more then a TS remake), and SD's ET:QW which again will be better than BF2142.

One thing you will notice (if you look) is games like SupCom and ET:QW are moving the gaming industry forward both have implemented new technology and new ideas and that's what's needed by developers, All you see and all you will ever see from EA is the same old technology that proven to get them a few dollars, they don't make anything new and never have they see a small developer with a good idea and the buy them out and push 3,4,5-6 more titles of the exact same game out as fast as possible once there dried out the small dev company that used to be no longer exists.

And this isn't made up stuff you can look it up on the internet this is how EA operates.

Sorry for the long post, but its appropriate.

Am I not an EA fanboi, but when I saw this I had to say something. In BF2 EA put out a lot of un heard of new things into it. Commander Mode, indepth Ranks/Awards, etc. Those were brand new ideas never before heard of before BF2.

Fast roping, a rocket pod Hip, cooler vehcile HUDs, better tank firing effects and the old MEC camo should not have been cut imo - they are all superior to what we have now unfortunately.

SIMRAD, AH60 Battlehawk(rocket pod blackhawk), The Larger Mashtaur(Show in 2005 E3 trailer), M82A1, Rocket Pods on the A10, Harrier in AF and Range Finders for tanks i knew about and thankfully some of these have and can be modded.

I wasn't aware of the M240, Settiling tourch for Engineers, Underground Tunnels, 3 Maps in SF(Midnight Express, Testing Ground, and Flat Beauty), 64Player versions in EF(I found 2 HeliPads in the out of bounds areas on Great Wall), Desert Cammo for the USMC Aircraft in the MEC theater, 15km*15km Maps(in one of the early interveiws this was said), A TON of other voice commands(I mean like 40+, found them in the files), Different unlocks for each army, United States Army in the game along with its respectful viechals that would take the place in the MEC theater in place of the USMC, Blood Puffs instead of the dust and A Ghost Town that is desert skinned.
Are there any sources for these?

Doesn't Enemy Territory: Quake Wars use a modded Doom 3 engine?

I mean Mr. Carmack added the Megatexture Technology while the ET:QW developers added the "bloom effect", but other than that, it's just a Doom 3 engine with a body kit and wax.

Now that we got this thread going, can anyone begin to put a list together that shows what has been added to this game since it's release. Then maybe we can compare what has been added vs what we did'nt get from the release.

Yeah... the depth to which EA/Dice already went with BF1942, then to add the wrinkle of stats and ranks and such....

Did anybody ever think that they are basically maintaining a persistent environment, storing your data on their servers, maintaining those servers, free of charge?

I swear to God, the freakin internet is so damn full of cry-baby "What have you done for me lately" jerkoffs...

the higher quality gfx engine also helps the "look" of the game.

As for depth of play, they're right on par with BF2/2142. But thats just my opinion.

I see vehicles, infantry and loose tactics in both games.

WTF I WANT THAT GAME. The game in the trailer that is not BF2, that is..

Still, it'll be possible to act out that scene in normal BF2... just get a LAN match and a mod to get a jet in the city.

Apart from the fact that there dropping all there servers for last years sports games so you have to go out and buy the same game only it has one year added to it.

Or the fact that server owners have to pay hundreds of dollars just so they can have a ranked server.

Ill go and see if I can find the article I read about EA. Think about it though how many of you actually play SF or EF or AF? compared to vBF2 its a tiny fraction but they made hundreds of thousands on those booster packs that you don't even play any more, they will do the exact same with BF2142 once its out they will have a few booster packs released once they have drained all they can from BF2142 they will move on to the next piece of crap then the next then the next.

Guys at the POE forums are putting together a detailed list of things that were obviously not coded into the final product for one reason or another. It's a good read and covers BF2, SF, EF, and AF

Ah, trailers for unreleased games at E3 always never look like the final product. The trailers and things always look better and (seem to)do more. It's just marketing. This isn't anything new or suprising.

Re: The Game I Supposedly Purchased?

How do you know that those "cool" features would've worked with the actual gameplay? Some ideas might have been axed simply because they probably sounded a lot better in "paper" than what they actually were in the game.

How do you know that the fast ropes wouldn't introduce any problems (bugs, combination of lag and a superbad pilot) to the gameplay? How do you know how well the laser designation would have actually worked in public servers gameplay? How do you know that "larger Mashtuur" would've been better than the current one? Would the precious hovercraft be any REAL use in any of the maps?

Adding (or subtracting) features from the games gameplay should be made judging by what can be done WELL and what can't be done well with a certain amount of availeble resources (coders, testers, artists etc) in a certain timeframe.

Still confused. Everything I've been researching says that the "Megatexture" Technology is just a rewritten renderer of the Doom 3 engine. Everything else about ET:QW's engine is Doom 3's, except that they tweaked it to make it better.

I couldn't find anything about Mr. Carmack's new engine, but as far as I know ET:QW will not feature it. I couldn't copy the text from the ET:QW site, but it says under "Revolutionary Game Engine" that it "..extends the cutting-edge Doom 3 engine.". I was also unable to find any information from Mr. Carmack's blog about his new engine, or the Megatexture technology.

Please understand that I don't mean ET:QW is going to suck, but I don't think it's as big a technological push in the rendering department. However I am looking forward to seeing the "What You See Is What You Shoot" and "Area-Of-Relevance" networking technology in action. Sounds very promising.

                              EDIT

I did some more research in Mr. Carmack's "Megatexture" technology for ET:QW.

It's some interesting stuff and while I wouldn't say it's going to revolutionize, I would definatly say it's a corner stone. It's actually a really simple process and only requires that you rethink how textures are rendered.

In an interview Mr. Carmack did with Cain Dornan for "Gamer Within" he basically says that with the "Megatexture" technology, there is no resource limitation on the ET:QW developers when developing the terrain of a particular map (meaning if I see repeated textures on the landscape it's because the Splash Damage artists are a bunch of lazy bums. :P).

However, Mr. Carmack also says that ET:QW is using an abandond version of the technology, and that their version does not allow for rendering static structures (along with some other minor bugs), while the newer version does (the newer version is being used on the XBox 360). I guess this means that even though the "Megatexture" technology is going to allow for beautiful enviroments which won't use a lot of system resources, players will still have to render structures of ET:QW the "good 'ole fashioned way".

Anyways, Mr. Carmack also says that this technology has ALWAYS been around and he is surprised that no other company has decided to use it (although the XBox 360 does, and I'm sure most games are now going to feature the newer version of the technology).

I would encourage everyone interested in Mr. Carmack's work or just 3D rendering to take a look here: http://www.gamerwithin.com/?view=art...cle=1319&cat=2

I myself will certainly be re-evaluating my thoughts on 3D rendering with what Mr. Carmack has done.
