Tieing the two together with the potential for cryogenic freezing is too delicious an option for EA to ignore, if for no other reason than to set a precident.
In the same way that BF1942 lead to BFV and BFV lead to BF2, BF2 is leading to BF2142. My bet is that if stats existed in BF1942 to the degree they do here, that there would be a large number of legacy accounts.
I doubt sincerely that any item carried over from BF2 to BF2142 will offer that dramatic of an advantage... in fact, I would seriously bet that it will be something simple and cosmetic...
A special red "2" patch on the arm of a BF2 vet's characters... something very subtle.
That, and I bet you will be able to login with the same name and password.
