Re: Should BF2 stats be carried over to 2142?

People buying BF2 right now know that they are getting into the game "in progress" and accept that fact. BF2142 is a new game. There will be people that buy BF2142 that do not own BF2. They don't want to be behind the curve in a new game. They paid for the exact same content you paid for.
I see what you are saying. For leaderboard purposes, they would have to start from scratch. So, for the leaderboard, only your points in BF2142 will count however, for unlocks, your BF2 score will count.

The problem is, from a business stand point, that BF2142 and BF2 are the same engine. People who play BF2 aren't going to be buying BF2142 for better graphics and a different style game play. They are basically buying it for new content. However, if they have to start all over from scratch and reunlock everything, I could see how people wouldn't want to switch over. Why start over when you can play with all the unlocks in another similar game?

Current customers are always your best lead. I guarantee you that EA knows this and that they will do whatever they need to to get every BF2 player to buy BF2142.

I don't know for sure, however, I would be surprised if you didn't recieve some incentive for being a BF2 vet.

We will just have to wait and see. Based off of EA/DICE's recent business model, the whole project might just be broken from the get go.

No not only is it a new game but it's a new time period. They are going to be probably different point values. Like maybe they'll add some new teamwork points or something. Plus the way you get points is different not only do you get kills in different ways but some of the kits are different. And healing points might be harder to get because of the new supply crate like medic kit. Plus like someone else said thinking of FF8 and 7. Probably everyone a colonel and above might start out with all unlocks if this were the case.

Looks like an overwhelming NO vote....

I voted no simply because it is a different game and stats are way over rated.....

They've already lost one. I'm not buying 2142. I think I'm about to give up on this stuff........the games just aren't what they used to be. BF2 is a decent game, but it's not great. I only bought it as something to kill time until GRAW came out. Now GRAW is out, and it sucks hard. It's not worth playing, and BF2 won't hold my attention for much longer. This was my first "Battlefield" game, and I don't like it enough to stick with the series. If they had fixed the bugs quicker, they probably would have had me. The few bug fixes they're released are just too little too late.

Well, they got me, rank transfers or not.

My experience with the actual in game bugs has been pretty limited. Although searching for servers is a pain and ridiculously stupidly designed, it has not even remotely been a deal breaker for me. This has been my first BF experience and I have been pretty damn happy with it :)

                    Stats, no.

Rank (or some other reflection of time invested in BF2), yes.

So long as it doesn't give any gameplay-related advantages (such as free unlocks or anything) I don't have a problem with certain parts of the system being carried over. However, since the classes are so different between the two games and I'm sure the guns will be too, I don't see how they could realistically combine the two stats systems in any way. Plus given how poorly BF2's stat system was thought out I'd just as soon have them start a new, more accurate, stat tracking system anyway.

Will they? Absolutely not. There's no way in hell they will carry over, EA won't make that mistake.
why should they? Having x amount of kills with a certain rifle or vehicle in BF2 is not pertainable to acquiring kills with a specific rifle or vehicle in bf2142. Answer threads with your brain and not your ***.

                            I voted "No."

Carry my account name over (so it's reserved) and give me a medal (bronze, silver, gold) based on my BF2 points/rank. A free unlock would be nice, but as long as we all start on a level playing field, I don't care.

I may end up just buying BF2142 because of the overwhelming amount of people NOT buying it....their may actually be less asshats....

Then again I think I would rather have Quake Wars....
