Guess I might as well bump this backup since the question has been popped again.

*replies from the ROE guys would be especially appreciated.
a 40, 44, or 56 player server playing a 64 player sized map IS NOT a HIGH POINT server. Maps come in flavors of 16player, 32player and 64player. There is no size in between 32 and 64. If a server bought 44 slots from a ranked server provider, it wouldn't make sense to cram 44 people on to a 32 player map, so they play the next available size, which is 64.

I read through the 5 pages of this thread and realized that no one really answered your question.

And who gives E&A the right to wipe anyone stats who have just came onto a server that is a high point? After all we have (well I hope) paid money to buy a game is a type of bullying from a big game company?

Just thought I ask a couple of questions just to keep the topic alive as it is interesting to read what you think a high point server is. By the way don't start banging on about or slagging me off as I only ask two questions to see what your thoughts are.
EA has the right. When you install your game, and you skip passed that legal mumbo jumbo and click, "I Agree", you are basically agreeing to EA/DICE being able to do just that. When you purchase a ranked server, you also agree to a set of rules, and EA/DICE has the right do shut you down, EVEN IF YOU PAID, becuase you agreed to that when signing up.

Sometimes its hard for people to realize that. Just becuase you paid, doesn't mean its "Your server, your rules", and you can do whatever you want. How hard is that to understand?

As an example, just becuase you PAID for your drivers license (yes, they aren't free), doesn't mean you can drive 120mph down a road by a school.

I never even knew high point servers were considered "illegal". Sometimes I like playing large maps with few people just because it's a different pace and I lag less. They should just allow all of these servers. Because who really cares about points? If someone wanted points, there are plenty of other ways to get them. And it's not like a pistol/knife server where everyone is fighting for a specific badge with no concern for the actual game. Which is actually sad, because I got my veteran pistol and knife badges both in the same round of a real game. It was actually easy.

I think that is what everyone does, but it is nice to sometimes break away from that, and go for a specific goal. I have my expert knife badge, but there are days I go out and say F*** It! I am just going to pull out the blade and show some kids up!

all ranked servers using a 32 and 64 sized map must have at least 10 players before it can start.....ive found myself on servers where people leave, and the round is still going with 5-9 players on a 64 sized map........i left too
Right, but that is not specified clearly. ROE does not provide any examples and scenrios where it is allowed and illegal.

I love the idea of having a humilation award, like Quake3 had and knife/defib are just that. That is one of those awards that I think should have a complex metric. Maybe X amount of knife kills per round over X amount of weeks with a total = Y by a specified time and it could be nullified if it Z% of kills were by n player(s). It could get complex but, if you want to get around the problem, you need to look at hard solutions sometimes. The best solution is the simplest to execute, which might not be the case here.

You can look at this from many different sides. I do think that if teamwork was the real motive behind BF2, then points would only come from actions that were teamwork derived or re-defined and re-desgned to reflect actual teamwork.

Anyway, it is what it is and I would like to see the system grow into something that is better than what it is now.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:

They should have given Squad Leaders 1 point for every flag a Squad Member caps and given every Squad Member 1 point for every objective the Squad Leader orders.

You seem to agree that the cheats and hacks appear to be doing it for points now though. In the past, people cheated or hacked for the fun of it. Now they can rank up.
Also, you have to see my point about putting a stats system like BF2 has into a game built around teamwork is kind of counterproductive. Right? I mean I would not make that statement if I had not been able to really see a difference in gameplay on unranked servers as opposed to ranked ones. The unranked servers tend to have much, much, much more teamwork going on in game.

Anyway, I don't mean to offend you. I completely see your point.

Oh, I totally hate the exploiting to get ahead, and sometimes, I just have to roll my eyes. I have drove out onto the beach a few times in Sharqi to push people deeper into the water to keep them from padding.

There are a million problems with having a ranked/stat system. Look at WoW and Diablo. People kill themselves and others because of items. I hate to see things come to that.

Yeah, I try to get on when my friends are around too, and I am sure that at some point, I am going to completely get away from the whole ranked system and go to a couple great mods. I totally predict a BF2v mod for 2142, and that will not be ranked...and I will be there in an instant.

But here is the deal: I want to see the ranked system continue and everyone learn how to better the system. Make it more accurate and harder to exploit. Yes, there will always be kids that will have more time on their hands, and be angry at the world an find ways to ruin other peoples fun...but I hope everything will grow. I know I would get flamed for this, and there are already couple threads about it, but I think BF3 should be a MMOG. Ranks make certain things happen. But, I don't want to see it exploited.

Sigh, I need to get back to work, I could rant all day about this stuff.

Edit: wow, a whole thread page just went by while I was typing out my thoughts.

I agree - although I have been caught in a kinfe/revive cycle by two smacktards. That was irritating as hell.

Looking back at other games I've played online (Unreal, Delta Force, Rainbow 6, Counter Strike), BF2 is probably one of the best, if not the best, games for catching hackers.

I think that the idea of reward (unlocks/ranks/ribbons/medals) for hard work (accumulation of play time and points) is not inherently bad in a FPS game. I do think that the implementation of said idea in BF2 was badly flawed and lent itself to all of the abuse we see on a daily basis. To compound the enitre problem, EA/DICE built BF2 for (and I truly love this part) TEAMWORK based gameplay. Commanders and Squads in a game centered about individual advancement. Hmmmmm. What could possibly go wrong?
    I gotta disagree with you.

I don't think greed drives the majority of BF2 players to cheat. Every online FPS to date has cheaters. I used to play CS - the original version, and let me tell you, it was a million times worse than BF2 is - and there were no stats.

I think the ranking in BF2 is great. It gives the player a sense of accomplishment. Sure there are smacktards who will abuse it, but I don't think there would be any less cheating/glitching if they didn't exisit.

well, theorhetically, working as a team ensures victory which leads to more points... so I dont think that stats and teamwork are mutually exclusive...

I think the kind of person who would cheat in CounterStrike would cheat in BF2 for the same reason... their egos need strokes, in CS the stroke comes from a 50-0 record on something lame like de_dust2... On BF2, the stroke comes from being a high ranking player...

Its the same mentality if you ask me...
