Re: High Points Servers
Rocket,
Man, you can do what makes you happy. I play ranked servers and I play unranked. I game with my buds and so for me it really doesn't matter. I am not trying to piss on your reason for playing BF2.
You seem to agree that the cheats and hacks appear to be doing it for points now though. In the past, people cheated or hacked for the fun of it. Now they can rank up.
Also, you have to see my point about putting a stats system like BF2 has into a game built around teamwork is kind of counterproductive. Right? I mean I would not make that statement if I had not been able to really see a difference in gameplay on unranked servers as opposed to ranked ones. The unranked servers tend to have much, much, much more teamwork going on in game.
Anyway, I don't mean to offend you. I completely see your point.

Re: High Points Servers
I feel there are two different kinds of players in BF. Those that care about their records that reflect who they are and those that have no business playing in a 'ranked' program. If you guys want to jive on the people that like to track their accuracy and like to rise up to the challenge of meeting goals, fine, go play unranked servers. Simple as that, WTF are you doing in the ranked system?
Ya, I like ROE to keep things even, but if you guys can't put up with the kids and the problems inherent with ranked programs, then you might have picked the wrong path in the first place.
Personally, I am not as concerned about my awards as I am about looking my accuracy. That shows something about how I have developed as a player. I get to see what I have made total in the last 14 months of playing. I have put a GD year of work into my playing...ya, you can turn around a say, it is just a game. But you know what, work is just about making money to live too. But there is something to be said about liking what you do and making something greater, meeting and exceeding goals.
*sigh* you say we don't get it. Well, I can see your side just fine and I am willing to agree to disagree, but what I am seeing, is people kicking sand on something that we take pride in.Leave a comment:

Absolutly agree with that statement:)Originally posted by ~WPN~Major UrsaI think that the point is this:
Had EA/DICE not interjected one of humanity's most base attributes, this being GREED, we would not have as much cheating, hacking or glitching. We certainly would not have the plethora of threads decrying such actions.
I think that the idea of reward (unlocks/ranks/ribbons/medals) for hard work (accumulation of play time and points) is not inherently bad in a FPS game. I do think that the implementation of said idea in BF2 was badly flawed and lent itself to all of the abuse we see on a daily basis. To compound the enitre problem, EA/DICE built BF2 for (and I truly love this part) TEAMWORK based gameplay. Commanders and Squads in a game centered about individual advancement. Hmmmmm. What could possibly go wrong?Leave a comment:

Again, on the issue of stats...
My stats matter to me.
Everybody elses stats are meaningless to me.
I'm ranked like, 137,000th in the world... think Im tracking the 136,999th person and how close I am to passing them?
No...
I think stats were implemented fine if you dont care about being #1, which... lets be honest... 99.999999999% of the people will never have to worry about cracking the top 5 in the BF2 world and the incentive to "Stat Pad" is to get access to more weapons... as if a 2 star general with 9,500 knife kills and 23,000 revives is any kind of player...
Who cares?Leave a comment:

Re: High Points Servers
Ya, I think we all know that you get short-changed on HPSs, and almost everyone has played on one, at some point. They are an outstanding novalty. Recently, I got on and SF map that was 64 with 20 slots and you know what? That was one of the most intense fighting maps of Warlord I have ever seen. It mad karkand look like a cake walk. It was not near the idea of a long drawn out game of driving around and around and around. Nope, it was all intense tight fighting. And I could see Great Wall being another good contender for HPS.Originally posted by Kold81I've played on one quite awhile ago and while i had a score in the 80's the game took twice as long as a normal game so there is no advantage. The thing you have to watch for are servers that say no armor etc. those are against the rules and covered by the roe.
(I played on a 64 map with 24 ppl not a KP server)
Personally though, I get triple the points in 30 minutes of Sharqi then I do with an hour on an HPS.
I just want ROE to get back with us on what the actually definitions of what illegal HPS servers are.
Ya, this is a long thread, and there was a sister thread going at the same time that was several pages long, but each post was several paragraphs long, so it was more like a 30 page thread. I could always bump that thread up too.Originally posted by bob332i see your point, i was very tired when i made the post so i could have definately mis-read the meaning of the post....Leave a comment:

It is not about K/P points on High Point Servers, it is about what is the definition of a HPS? K/P servers often get higher then normal points, but I don't think should be clumped together with what most people consider as HPSs, which are 64 player maps that limit the amount of slots for both teams to make a long fight.Leave a comment:

Re: High Points Servers
Originally posted by bob332ok, i just did a search with the ingame browser and found a couple K/P servers. i took down the ip and had a look through bf2 tracker. i found this person - RIOfighter to have over 700pts in a game. after looking at his stats his top victim and opponent are the same person. this person is listed as a Lieutenant Colonel and 98% of the way towards his next rank. is ea/dice going to wipe his stats for playing on the K/P servers knowingly since he has been around since 1/12/05?
if there are consequences for playing on these type of server, especially the ones that are listed in the title as K/P ONLY, they need to be handed out across the board. giving veterans a break is not cool as they know what they are doing is wrong. newbs need to be warned.
i can't understand why there is all this conversation going on when the answer is simple - in all reality, how many points can an individual get in a given game playing the correct way? 200-300max? people who routinely get 400-700 pts in a game obviously aren't playing by the same rules as i do as i have never seen anybody in game that is run correctly get over 200pts.

Anyone who plays this game knows where these servers are, they're listed in the browser. Surely someone with EA and/or BFROE plays this game and has seen them listed, is it too much for them to do some investigating themselves? If someone spent a few hours a week looking into them they'd be gone in no time. Sure, there'd still be some which don't advertise and wouldn't be found out until someone happened to stumble onto it and reported it but at least the ones which flaunt violating the ROE would be gone and they're the ones which undermine people's confidence that EA takes cheating/padding seriously.Originally posted by ~WPN~Major UrsaPlayer's stats are easy to see, server logs are not. If you get pissed at a padder, you can fill out a complaint and that player will get looked at hard. Since "high point" servers can generate "high points" for those that frequent them, who is going to turn them in? Not the folks that are getting all of the points. So those servers hang around until somebody makes a complaint.
But what's really disturbing is that a group of people sat down to write rules outlawing high points servers but didn't think to define what one is.Leave a comment:
