Seriously, how do so many have PINGS <75?

I live out in the sticks... I admit it. I have DSL though, and regularly can find servers with about a 100 Ping or so... so I'm not complaining, but I am curious:

What sort of service do you have to get pings in the 50's or 30's that I see regularly online? I see a LOT of these in the servers I frequent.

Live close to a city?

Have something other than DSL?

Live down the block from the server?

What sort of service do you have, how fast is it, what company.

Don't speculate on this if you have ****ty pings, I'm not interested in your opinions, but if you regularly have a GREAT ping (<75), then please, by all means, share your ideas and details.

cable and living close to your ISP. I have COX and live very close to the CO (central office)

DSL is (for the most part) slower than cable.

I get a 6 ping on Moongamers Karkand. I believe the server is in Virginia. I live in DC with a FiOS 15Mbps/2Mbps connection. =)

I get pings of 16 on UK servers because my exchange is literally at the end of the road, and I live fairly close to London.

ive got a 2mb connection in the uk and as long as i find a uk server my ping is always 20-25, you just need to be close to the server

8mb/s cable certainly helps!

Get a T3, then you should be good to go!

Seriously, basic DSL service isn't good for gaming, IMHO. Cable or upgraded DSL if you can't get cable in your area.

Anything in the UK can give me in the range of 20-30 on a 1mb connection

im on DSL 2.2mb and my pings around 25-27 on most servers

i use 1500kbps and with a ping of 20-25.. I will get 3000kbps again and then im under 20 ping...

what does the ping really mean? if i have like 10ping and another have 20 . does it mean that im 1 second faster?

I'm lucky to get anything below 100. I live in a rural town in Georiga, USA and using Bellsouth DSL.

I'm on 8mb DSL and get pings of 20 - 25 without interleaving.

I'm suscribed to hitle....I mean comcast. i get around 50 ping on any server in the US, and around 80 on UK.

I live near boston.

u ppl have it good. i cant get newhere under 200 ping where i live in romania

i live in london uk and have a 512 connection ( i know its bad :p) but manage to find loads of EU sever where i get pings of 20-100 on american severs i get around 200+

Contact your ISP and ask them to disable "errorcheck". USA based servers, where I got 250 ms ping, I dropped to 140. European servers where I got 150-200, I got 70-80.
