But splash damage is the only thing that makes them decent.....unless you increase their fire rate further and make it so that one shot instantly kills a soldier.
About making grenades have no radius, that is incredibly stupid, especially for a weapon that kills with shrapnel.
That said, grenade spamming is a huge problem in urban maps, and i agree that something needs to be done.
My solution is to play mods like bfpirates that will have minimal or no grenades.
What is far worse than grenade spamming is claymore whoring. Claymores should be entirely removed from IO games, and a max of 1 for vehicle games. The one should either tk teammates or be destroyable by any gun or grenade.
Re: PlaneWhore's list of essential BF2 gameplay changes for the 1.4 patch
Here's what I'd like to see with 1.4 (wishful thinking).
1. Tone down the cannon guns on all jets (an attack chopper is reduced to a tin can when an even half decent pilot is on the other team).
2. Get rid of the TV missile glitches. As an veteran pilot/gunner, I can almost predict when a glitch is going to arise in the middle of a battle. We've all been there (IT WON'T SHOOT! *dead*), done that.
3. Tone down ALL support weapons. There is no reason why an RPK/PKM should have better accuracy than an M16. You're pretty much guaranteed to die if you come face to face with a PKMer. (my solution is bunny hopping and shock paddling in the face, but I'd rather not have to go through the trouble).
4. Turn FRIENDLY FIRE BACK ON FOR CLAYMORES. Enough said.
5. FIX THE RIDICULOUSLY FREQUENT SERVER CRASHES/DISCONNECTS.
6. I would also love for EA to set up a server blacklist type thing on their BF2 site. It will provide a way to voice your concerns about certain servers and admins. Nothing pisses me off more than when I get kicked from a server for saying a mean thing to an admin (cry me a river) or just plain raping the server. Admin abuse has to stop.

Name one other fast moving offensively geared vehicle in Battlefield does not have splash damage to assist with killing excluding the horrible transport helicopters. Fact is you can't and there is a good reason for that. Hitting targets directly while in a vehicle is hard. Not only because of the increased distances involved but the speed itself that requires you to lead a target a HUGE amount to hit. Airplanes have splash, all of the attack helicopters have splash and even armored vehicles like tanks and APCs have splash even though they don't really need it.
Bottom line in order to effectively hit targets in a fast moving (insert vehicle here) you need splash. It doesn't have to be a large radius at all but basically if you're standing next to this hailstorm of bullets you're going to die. I'm all for giving the MEC transport splash damage on that gun too because they really do need it.
Since the BH gun nerf I have yet to die to a minigun. Since I started playing this game I have YET to die to an MEC transport helicopter gun.. not once. That's just flat out wrong and those weapons need to both be improved to make the transport helicopters more of a useful vehicle that can be employed in both an offensive and defensive manner.
Don't tell me to improve my aim either. My aim is so good I'm like a flesh and bone aimbot and I can say with confidence that even when moving and moderate speeds that blackhawk gun is virtually useless. You've pretty much got to fly at walking speeds for that gun to be useful and that's just plain silly.
Re: PlaneWhore's list of essential BF2 gameplay changes for the 1.4 patch
They are not going to make blackhawks 1 hit kills as it doesnt go with the rest of crappy guns that take 30 shots to kill. If they buffed all the guns and made 1 AT rocket down a blackhawk i wouldnt be against it but as it is now it just turns into another vehicle to whore out...
Re: PlaneWhore's list of essential BF2 gameplay changes for the 1.4 patch
As far as im concerned the BH is good as is. In BF2 its primary use is for transport. We already have attack helo's doing circles around flags raping the hell out of people we don't need a transport helo doing the same thing.
Re: PlaneWhore's list of essential BF2 gameplay changes for the 1.4 patch
To properly man a blackhawk for an offensive role you need FOUR (count em 4) players. You've got the two minigunners, a pilot who is a medic and an engineer for repairs.
Now figure a good medic can easily score 80 points a round on a 64 player server lasting 15 minutes and end it with 25-30 kills, 10-20 revives, flag captures, team heals ect. So you take those same players out of the blackhawk they're worth 100-120 kills 30-60 revives and a bunch of flag captures. They'd be lucky to get that many total kills in the blackhawk and they won't be reviving any players, capturing any flags or doing any other of that stuff that's critical to winning a round.
Finally you need to consider on most maps the blackhawk is a unique vehicle (meaning you only have to deal with one). So merging all these factors I'd say the blackhawk more than deserves a decent offense again. I can remember even with the blackhawk gun was uber I'd hardly ever die to it. You can hear/see that thing coming from a mile away and if you're too thick to take cover before it arrives then that's your fault now isn't it?
As of the 1.3 patch 4 teammates in a blackhawk is what is commonly known as four useless teammates. With an improved offense those players would at least be able to contribute and it'd bring the blackhawk back in to the game.

I disagree about this portable stinger. Its bad enough we have chopper pilots have to advoid linebackers + the 5 stingers that exist on a good portion of the map, but to add portable stingers is crazy. A server of 64 people in it, and 75% of them are playing the new class, it'd be hell.. One of those is going to hit, and its going to be hell.. If they did do this then the helos should get 3 flare launches before it has to reload.
Re: PlaneWhore's list of essential BF2 gameplay changes for the 1.4 patch
I agree that both the MEC transport gun is underpowered, but its also the MEC transport itself that is lumbering and non manueverable.
This is not bad, it just adds variety to the game. I was once on a 50 cal spot in the chinese transport helo and a black hawk raked the side of the Mi-17 with rounds, killing me instantly.
It was still extremely fun, because I saw the external view of my chinese dude falling off the gun mount and tumbling down into mist....just like a real conflict with china would be!
The black hawk is far more manueverable and versatile than the MEC transport, but this has not unbalanced a single game. Its nice to see a map where both sides dont have frigging identical vehicles.... (ex, M1A2 being identical to T90, etc)
How about remove stationary AA, and add mobile AA in AT kit?
Desert combat had it, and it worked perfectly.
Helicopter and plane pilots like myself should not be worried, if you have any skill whatsoever.
However, the majority of attack helicopter pilots I have encountered have been incredibly lacking in skill.
THEY should be worried. And NO, every map does not have 5 bradleys and stationary AA on the other team! Its the attack helicopters that have gotten away with too much of the raping. In my experience its sraws and 50 cals that down the attack helos, not AA at all!

So if the majority of a 64 player server gets pissed at a attack helicopter, the pilot should either have do dodge stingers or die ONCE. Cry me a river you whining....
The way you say its bad enough avoiding the paltry few AA.... it either means you have an incredible lack of both intelligence and coordination, or are playing on some kind of mod where there are dozens of bradleys and stingers on every roof.
Seriously, go play a frigging iron gator already. Its nothing but a pure whorefest for attack helos, and if you can avoid ONE AA, youre done. Avoid or blow up of course.
And for the record, I fly tons around ghost town after the 1.2 patch, and have yet to be shot down by AA.
Yes, you may have to die more than once a game, and thats a scary thought for attack helicopter whores, but get used to it!

However if you're still reading this far in I have a far better solution:
Agreed, what makes things worse is that DICE have posted on these forums and in the interview posted not so long ago mentioning this issue. So they are well aware it exists.
2a) Rework handling on the planes to be different, but more or less equal, then give planes unique characteristics which define them.
Would be great if they did but as long as they balance the J10 and maybe the F18 then thats all i need.
2b) Scrap AA missiles current system all together.
While it would be good i think to introduce something like that or the DC style system as mentioned is too much for a patch.
3) Make the assault class useful again
As someone who has played alot of assault I'd like to see more smoke grenades and the accuracy increased for standing and while moving, or do it for crouch.
4) Add a vehicle TK discouragement/vehicle fair sharing system -
Agreed, as someone else mentioned on top of this remove the ability for the m95 to shoot through cockpits on friendlys to prevent people getting a friend to TK.
5) Restore the blackhawk gun to its former glory.
Only way i'll agree with this is provided all transport choppers get the increase and are all about the same level, i laughed at the guy who said the blackhawk didn't make mashtuur unbalanced. Considering the blackhawk could easily take 130+ kills a game i'd say thats enough to unbalance the map. You also mention this should be done because the armor has been nerfed, isn't this just contradicting yourself with point 10 when you want .50 cal to do less damage.
6) Add new game modes
Couldn't care eitherway really, would be great but i'd rather see fixes for other problems first.
7) Give AT players 1 point for hitting a vehicle that has an enemy inside.
Don't see any reason why this wasn't done from the demo, only issue would be stat padding. However you would need Engineer, AT and support to make any amount of points fast, i think they would just stick to knife/revive anyway.
8) As mentioned in 6.. don't add an IO mode.
I still don't understand your reasoning for this, if there is going to be a large amount of people who want to play this for a change then why shouldn't DICE add it. There are only two possible reasons i see someone not wanting this, firstly they have more than 50% of there kills from vehicles so they are worried people are going to stop spawning in the alleyways of karkand or on the carrier to be raped by vehicles.
Second point would be inflated stats, now if you are so worried about what other peoples stats look like then i think you need to go play some other games without stat systems to try remember that the game is suppose to be fun.
9) Whatever you did to BF2 performance between the demo version and the current version.. undo it please.
Other than the CTD and server crashes from 1.3 I've had no real problems with performance and i've got a mid ranged computer.
10) Decrease the damage the 50 cal machine guns do to helicopters (about 20%-25%).
No need for this at all, I've played alot of BF2 competetive in the 32 player format. Now this is where you have two teams going against each other who play and train together multiple times a week so the teamwork is at the best you will get. In this level of competition the winning sides player with the best kills to death ratio and most kills will 95% of the time be the chopper gunner. This isn't like on a public server either where people are all standing on the carrier or just running around farming points. I think if you are finding that the .50 cals are that much of a problem on public servers then you need to go back and work on your flying.
11) Add a maximum range to TOW missiles.
It already has a maximum range, I've done lots of work on pixel shooting for competitive games.
12) Add a first person mode to the spectator cams.
Lots of positives and only negagitve would be if it affected system performance.
13) Finally but certainly not last... revert the changes you made to squad hopping.
From a competetive player I like the new change, it's put alot more skill back in the game rather than who can switch squads and spawn fastest to win the game.
14) Up the speed that engineers gain repair points by 200%-300%.
Agreed, either this or make it 2 points instead of 1.
15) Claymores should be able to be detonated by high-end explosives.
Agreed, it was a stupid move to make it this way in the first place.
